Tailing the Komets

Goaltender status

Rob Nolan is signing is Missouri, according to David Franke, who said he's signing for the same money the Komets offered but wanted to be the No. 1 goaltender. Tyler Sims is also about to sign with Tulsa so he won't be in the Fort Wayne mix.

As for what the Komets are looking for to fill their two roster holes, Franke said it's still a back-up/co-No. 1 goaltender and an enforcer.

``We'll be patient. We've got a lot of time. We're checking out some young kids. It's not an emergenchy that we get it done immediately.''

I asked if not getting Nolan would add more money to the other position, and he said not likely, that Nolan would have been getting a raise over what he made in Flint last year, and it would have fallen into the slot the Komets have left under the salary cap.

I've got a call into the coliseum on the ribbon advertising. I haven't heard that it won't be done, and I'd guess we'd have heard about that by now if it was not going to happen. (I know, famous last words).

Andy: your rant proves that the K's need a very good goalie who is capable of being a #1 and carry the load when the other goalie is hurt. Nobody is crapping on Nick (as you stated) just saying that the K's need a capable goalie as backup.

Who stated directly to you that Haun is not a good lockerroom guy? Sorry, I dont know you so I cant just take your word for it... I've heard that from a couple posters now; but no contacts listed... Leo Thomas was always rumored to be a bad locker room guy and he's done alright here and we've always heard how strong the K's locker room is, so it shouldnt be an issue anyway...

Leo also received an offer didn't he? That says a lot. Goalie of the Year doesn't even get interest from the team......hmmmm. And I'm sorry JR, I'm not gonna go throw the guys-whom I bumped into at a local bar (weird, LOL)-under the bus. Imagine how they'd feel if they were mentioned on here as telling to a fan? That would be classless on my part to mention their names. I don't care who believes me, the bottom line is it's true-direct from their mouths-and the evidence supports it. The Komets are a business, the players are the assets. You don't let a guy like Haun walk away for nothing unless there's something behind the scenes going on.

like i said boucher is good but we need someone else that can carry the load too. There is alot of things that go on one is haun is not very good ask anyone in the league or D made him look that good. dont u think someone would have jumped all over him by now to sign im sure he will go back to the sphl all the coaches think this and alot of players.

"real life drama" staring the Ft.Wayne Komets :(
All I know we need some "toughness" look at the signings of the last couple of days :)

I just want to know how it is that everyone says the things that go on in player's private lives are personal and no one else's business, and yet everyone I talk to always seems to know exactly what those things are. I'm beginning to think that men "gossip" as much as women supposedly do.

Reiterfan, players on teams make each other accountable by sometimes by letting them know they made a stupid play. I'm sure Nick has heard it from his teammates too over the last several years in the reverse situation. Guy a veteran player and I'm sure he has both made guys aware, and been made aware of mistakes that have cost the team. Doesn't make a guy a bad teammate by any stretch.......

Did they stop putting and punctuation keys on keyboards and mobile devices? Just wondering..................

:-)

Steve

That should be "shift" and punctuation keys. Guess the system won't let you use the proper designation for a key, must read it as an HTML tag.

Funny Steve. You call people out on their writing style, and have to have a follow up "edit" post of your own.. maybe proof read your own post before submitting? Particularly when calling others out on their mistakes.... nice try on your cover excuse though. :)

Far as goalies though... Bouch is a darn good goalie. With that said, i do think it is wise to have a solid guy to split some time with. That presents some challenges however, because most high quality goalies want to be the number 1 guy.. (Nolan). Frankes have a good eye for talent and somehow also seem to get it right when it comes to players, so lets see what happens i suppose..

Still would also love to see 1 more decent power forward and/or little more toughness.

Best of luck to "Killer" in Miss. He is a very nice person. He talked with me at length when he was visiting the coliseum last year. When someone takes 15 or 20 minutes to chat, you know they dont have a super big ego. Doc Emrick was the same way with me when we chatted. One hell of a nice guy!!

Well, let's see K123, maybe I did mess up. I'll try it again. Of course if it doesn't show up and you don't understand HTML or XHTML tags or key designations then you won't understand it, right? Following this I will skip a line and type in the designation for the shift key.

If it isn't there then try it yourself. Or don't. It doesn't really matter, does it? Who was I calling out? I don't think I made a comment on anyone's writing style (or lack thereof) but more a comment or question on the lack of capitalization and punctuation which isn't style at all, is it? It's a sign of ignorance, laziness, or a lack of proper keys on a part of a communication device.

But actually I made the comment out of boredom with the direction the comments were going and to sort of stir things up a bit.

I do agree with your comment on the goalie situation %100. :-)

Stve--I have absolutely no idea what you did wrong. I can't type very fast either. English was not one of my strong suits in school. I guess you shouldn't worry to much about it. I'm sure not! :)

Steve - I could really care less. Just find it hilarious when someone points out grammatical errors and screws something up themselves. So ya made my moment.

Furthermore, i never said you were calling anyone out in particular. With that in mind, you would have been calling everyone out so to speak.. correct? or was it simply a random statement such as.... Lizards drive me crazy... If it was random and had nothing to do with the way people post than what an odd thing to randomly say Steve.

So if it had a target, or targets(everyone), in mind then I stand by my original post..

Also, to defend my usage of the term "style" which you seemed to target.. Punctuation is indeed a style when it comes to the texting and computer age wouldn't you say? for example using a smiley ;-) .. or using shortcut abbreviations such as... lol . Using one enter between paragraphs or 2. I personally like the multiple periods after some sentences. Much like a (,) they give the reader a pause... Also serves to split up a book worth or writing as it can tend to run all together and boggle the eyes a little bit.. it is just my "style".. ;-)

lol.. but i digress.. happy you agree with me on the goaltender situation at least.

This is why we need Hockey being played right now. We could be sitting here arguing about this check, that goal, and goonery. Instead we are having an English class writing debate.. As interesting as any debate can be, I would much rather debate about the Komets good/bad performance..

Wendy
Sun, 08/15/2010 - 2:44am

English class? I'd be happy if people would just stop saying, "Where are you at?" It's not about ending a sentence in a preposition. It's about saying an extra word you don't need. "Where are you?" See what I mean? Isn't that easier to say? Sorry. Pet peeve.

komets123
Sun, 08/15/2010 - 5:07am

Interesting pet peeve. Never thought about that one before, but i have to agree. Now I will catch myself saying "where are you at?" in the future and I'll feel like an idiot.. thanks a lot!

k123, OK, I'll grant your observation that in a manner of speaking I'm calling everyone out. I frequently use smiley faces and strings of periods following a sentence seem to be a favorite of mine. I use LOL less often (please note the capital letters, acronyms are capitalized in the written form of the English language :-) ).

I do challenge the need to butcher the written language by not using capitalization, punctuation, and structure just because someone is typing on a computer instead of using a typewriter (does anyone anymore?) or pen and paper. Even most cell phones and PDAs have qwerty keypads now. For me it's a matter of respect for both the language and the people who chose to read the messages. Standards are there to aid communication, not hurt it.

It's all to easy to misunderstand someone's intent just by reading their words in "this age of computers", why complicate it even more with a lack of basic writing form? Is not using little or no capitalization and punctuation any different then TYPING IN ALL UPPERCASE LETTERS. Perhaps both convey a message of sorts? Does not one say "I'M SHOUTING AT YOU" and the other "i think so little of you i'm not going to bother to hit one or two keys to better convey my message"?

Have I talked my way out of it yet???? :-)

OK, on the realistic side, IMO, communication between two friends/spouses by text, email, or writing can be whatever they are willing to accept from each other. Messages for public consumption should follow proper form. Again, in my opinion.

I do however refuse to admit that I screwed up. First, I normally won't admit it, at least not when clowning around. Second, in this case I didn't.

In writing manuals for computer operations when referring to a particular key on the keyboard the name of the key is surrounded by angle brackets, or the less then - greater then symbols. To do this you press the shift key and the comma key to get the open bracket, type the key to be pressed, i.e. "shift", then press the shift key and press the period key to type the close bracket.

Now just for the heck of it, or to humor me, or to learn something, in a reply do that with the word shift and you'll notice it won't show up in the post after you submit it.

I'm guessing the blog has been set up not to accept HTML (probably a good idea) and the same brackets are used to open and close tags and commands in HTML. Just a guess, I don't know that for sure.

Probably my worse offense with grammar is over use of the word "that". Notice in my last sentence in the above paragraph that I should not have included that, just as in this sentence. :-)

We need hockey to start or I need to get a life. Any extra pills Burgee?

Steve - Love the post btw. lol.. I use the small "lol", and not the big "LOL" .. guess i reserve the big one for when i actually do laugh out loud.. if i just chuckle inside the small one seems sufficient. ha.. I see your point on the punctuation and capitalization of words, but I disagree to an extent.

I sometimes will capitalize and sometimes will not. Now don't get me wrong, if i am writing a letter of official business, or putting together a resume I am sure to get it correct. BUT.... I am horrible with a keyboard or any kind. Search and peck is tough enough without having to find two keys at the same time! .. I do not find offense of any kind in writing style, but only in their content. As long as i can gather what they are trying to say I am good with it for the most part.. And Spelling? jeez.. if not for spell check you would cry at my post if i were to submit it.

And, I still say you screwed up.. HTML or not.. lol. I see your point though. Easy mistake to make, and I am positive you are not the only one to make it. But, a mistake is still a screw up in my book. hehe.

No matter though.. i enjoyed the debate.. now to humor you i will attempt your "shift" experiment. Pretty sure i know the outcome based on your previous experience..

k123, did you have to bring up spelling? I have always been a horrible speller. The rules just make no sense to me. I did much better with Spanish. Sometimes I do end up with the proper spelling as it is spelled in the UK but somewhere along the line our version here has changed it. My teachers use to say, "sound it out" and my reply was always, "I did".

I was in heaven when I started using computers to write with and the word processors included spell checking. I think my first full word processor was Word Star IIRC.

Anyway, I share your pain and my wife shares ours because if she's close it's easier to ask her then to play around with combinations of letters until the spell checker can come up with the correct suggestion.
