Nick Boucher comes off IR on Wednesday, Konstantin Shafranov is eligible Monday, Rick Varone can go on Tuesday and Brad MacMillan's 15-game suspenion is done.
Other than that, I got nothing else positive for you as the Komets lost to Port Huron 2-0 on Saturday night. It had been four years since the Komets had been shut out on the road before their game Dec. 5 at Dayton, and now it has happened in back-to-back road games for the first time since November, 2004. Yikes!
Only 23 shots on goal Saturday night. After a 7-2-0 start, the Komets have gone 5-6-1, scoring only 26 goals.
The Komets are averaging just 2.61 goals per game this season, while giving up a league-low 2.52 per game. Take away a pair of shootout goals the league counts toward the Komets totals and it's actually 2.52 goals for and 2.52 goals against right now. The Komets' all-time record for lowest goals against average is 2.37 in 2003-04 so that tells you how well they are playing defensively. To put the lack of offense in perspective, the Komets' record for fewest goals per game in a season is 2.83 in 1956-57!
To put it quite simply, the guys who are making all the money on this team have to be the ones to find a way to put the puck in the net.

He-he. I like that. Kalamahoo. Or should I say "Kalama-who?" :P
Well Tampa sent back down the forward they called up from Norfolk so I wonder if Syro will make his way back to the Fort???
Fort wayne is a Komet town not a hockey town.
Blake, temporarily changing the topic here, something that was never really spelled out earlier is what the IHL league bylaws are that allowed the league to take over the Dayton Gems franchise and give it to a different group. Can you fill us in on this. Also, what kind of financial settlement was made with the original owners. I can't believe that they lost everything.
Here is the video oh Haun fighting Sterling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wb4Df_wFKk
With all the players coming off the IR and suspension, there's going to be changes to this team. If those changes don't work out, then the Frankes will go out and get someone that will make a difference. Too many players out there wanting a job that can help. Not time to panic yet.
I have no idea, Scarecrow, and in the past whenever I have asked about similar situations, they have always declined to answer. I'm sure if the former Dayton owners felt they had been cheated, they would have run screaming to the media by now. They always did in the past. As a private business, the league can essentially do whatever it wants. I'm sure that was a part of the original contract awarding the franchise. I wouldn't waste time feeling sorry for them.
From the video I think Haun may want to stop taking fighting lessons from Stayzer... Still, at least he stands up for himself. Some other members of the team may want to watch the video and take notes on how to do that. I know I've complained about Haun a couple of times when I was frustrated after games, but he has done well considering the lack of help he got a lot of time in front of him. Also, I don't think Larry would've had the brass to skate all the way down the ice and get involved had that game been in the Jungle. Most nights he's too afraid to even come onto the ice, that is unless it's a Wednesday night game with -5 windchills when only the Komet faithful show up for the game.
Blake, I don't feel sorry for the old Gems owners. I'm just curious what the league could do in the future to other teams if they were so inclined, and what actually triggers some sort of league response. Also, how was Dayton's situation different from what transpired before in Flint?
Thanks for the continuing information.
Hit somebody.....if there were problems in the room that we didn't know about, it should stay that way. We have no involvement in the team and it is none of our business what goes on in the locker room. If there is a problem then the ones responsible for the team should address it.
Good idea JR, also make them play goal without a mask!
Well, Hextall wasn't commish before. Did that have anything to do with it? Or was Flint paying their IHL dues last season and just not anyone else?
I didn't say we should know what is going on in the Locker-room, I am just questioning the fact that there might be problems there with this team. That's all.
Tiger, you're welcome to your opinion. I just felt that the talent level was pretty close. A third of the guys on the Walleye have played in the IHL, and one has come back "down" to the IHL this season. Just looking at their program from Saturday, for example: Tommy Lange (Kalamazoo last season), Jamie Milam (played 8 games for us a few seasons ago), Mark Nebus (formerly of Kalamazoo), Dominic Osman (Komets, Kwings), Brock Wilson (former Flint player), and Derek Patrosso....yeah, that jerk who ran Haun just last weekend....so if he can play in both leagues, then how is it so different? Ditto the Kalamazoo players? And of course, the ECHL has younger players....a great number of them were straight out of college as well. Who cares how old you are as long as you can play, man? Nesbitt from the Walleye was their worst player by far and he's younger than Shafranov by a mile....age is only a number.
BLB.....this argument for people who want to paint the ECHL as a better league than the IHL....well....you can't win this argument. They will paint it their way, IHL lovers will paint it the way they want. You say "putato" I say "patoto"......let's call the whole thing off.
If we made the move laterally to the ECHL....you would still have a vocal group that would complain about that hockey. If we move, I say we go as far as we can....AHL. We can't support a NHL team, but AHL would do. Why move to the ECHL when it is the same as we have plus more travel....and it has Kalamadoodoo too. Would be funny to one-up them to the AHL so they can tell us how great they have it in the ECHL, when we are above them in the AHL....
Now that would be funny, I don't care who you are.
But I am content in the IHL right now. As long as they can stop the sinking ship and strengthen what they have, and of course....add INDY, CINCY, PEORIA, CHICAGO, and ROCKFORD. Now that would be cool.
The people who want AHL will love it when the Komets win their division going away only to have their best players taken away from them going into the playoffs. The first round elimination that follows will surely bring those satisfied fans back the next year to watch the same thing happen.
Yep Mr Snuff thats the AHL for sure. Use them then lose them. Good point.
