If you've got a really good rumor and you think it might be approaching the line, email me and I'll try to track it down that way.

Just so everyone knows there is a Michigan city's application that is being considered and will be voted on by the USHL's BOG's and announced at their all star game towards the end of January. Take that for what it is; but if you remember that Muskegon has been courted by the USHL in the very recent past the rumor mill points towards Muskegon. They have a good hockey tradition and is close to Ann Arbor which fields the USA under 18 team, I believe...

Ok, this is totally theoretical and I do understand we could possibly be talking about something for nothing here, but let's pretend for a bit that it would be Muskegon and they wanted to jump leagues. When would that go into effect? This isn't even a rumor, it is a hypothetical. Thanks all for playing along.

Great comments here Blake. I had never, ever seen a slash and a dive called on the same play...had no idea why he blew his whistle in the third period. (I guess were were in the crease during the powerplay--a college rule)
I really felt bad for both teams have to police themselves because the ref was literally lost. Not good at all....and I don't complain about officiating much at all

Syro is not going anywhere.
I also don't think it's Muskegon. Different ownership group which now controls the building.
I think I said this about two weeks ago on here. There could be a lot of shifting this summer. It wouldn't surprise me to see minor league hockey go from 78 teams to 65-70. I talked to somebody today whom I respect tremendously that said there might be 20 percent of minor league teams right now that are making money and the rest are all scrambling to survive. I would have guessed it was less than that. Right now, nobody is making firm plans or next year, everybody is just trying to survive the season.

Syro said that was totally news to him.
Part of the problem for Mitch coming back on the 29th is that there's no ice available this weekend, and right now he needs to be on the ice everyday. I'd seem him skating as the extra forward with limited shifts on the 29th, but I expect him to play then.

Speaking of checking facts.... Muskegon's attendance for this year to date (20 home games) is 2808....
2008/09 season for 38 home dates was 2913
2009 post season (5 games, which included 2 home games in the Finals) was 2076...
Based on those numbers, attendance is not up in Muskegon...
RUMOR: Muskegon is making payroll and paying bills; but not making money so far this season and the current majority owners are contemplating whether to continue to dump large sums of money into the team in the current minor league hockey landscape coupled with the current economic woes in Michigan...

I agree Blake that we are going to see some significant movement in minor league hockey again the offseason. Anahiem already has bought the Bakersfield ECHL franchise with the intentions of moving them to the AHL next season to be thier AAA affiliate. Also hearing thast there could be a few more teams from the ECHL's west division that may make the same moves so the west NHL teams can have thier AAA players closer for callups. I woulkd assume that if this happens the ECHL will try and compensate to try and keep most of the AA affiliations in thier league instead of going to the CHL or even possibly the IHL. Gonna be an interesting offseason.

Thank you Super Fan. I tryed to keep it to myself. Oh well. I figured someone would ask it if I didn't....
My thought, as I choose now to share it with the blog now, bite your tongue Professor G Daddy.....LOL.......If it is Muskegon that jumps to the USHL, the IHL cannot recover from that kind of move. That would be 2 out of the 3 strongest franchises leaving the IHL in back to back years with only the Komets and a bunch of fragile situations left in this struggling league. If Muskegon bolts, the Komets Hand will be forced finally, and we will see a move to one of 2 places, either Upward to the AHL, or downward to the USHL. I think the Frankes are striving to keep Pro Hockey in this town so my guess is Upward Choice. Others might disagree with my next thought, but I doubt they move to the ECHL....what would be the hook there??? How would that benefit the Komets? I have heard in several circles that Toledo is jumping to the AHL next season, and I think it might be time the Komets follow....
This is coming from me, one of the guys that has defended the IHL for 3 years and before that, defended what was attempting to happen in the UHL for years, but if the IHL goes down the tubes.....it is time we move Upward!!!
Obviously this is just discussion.....so no one get your panties in a knot. My opinion.
In the meantime.....Go Komets!!! 100% Lets win another cup fellas!!!
