What the Komets are looking for

Komets general manager David Franke said today he's basically looking to fill two more roster spots and that's it. He wants to find another goaltender and a big, tough forward. There's no limit on the amount of players a team can bring to camp, but Franke said he sees no reason to bring in more than 24 or 25 players.

``We just don't need to bring a bunch of extra guys in,'' he said. ``We have a lot of returning players, and rather than muddy the waters, we're going to give other guys a real hard look. There's going to be a great opportunity in training camp to see what guys can do without a bunch of extra guys taking icetime away.''

Franke said the Komets are continuing to talk with goaltender Rob Nolan but need a decision soon.

``There's nothing close right now,'' Franke said. ``I can't wait forever and maybe lose somebody else who is out there. If they are not interested, then I can move on. Right now we're still circling the field.''

As for the tough guy, Franke said he wants someone who is 6-3 to 6-5.

``I want a big guy,'' he said. ``One thing we learned last year is as tough as (Brad) MacMillan was, he can't fight the guys who are 6-3 who have four or five inches on him and maybe 20-30 pounds. We want to go back to having that big, physical, tough player who can take on the big dudes who are in the CHL.''

Franke said he's also trying to find another opponent for a home exhibition game on Oct. 10 but is having trouble. He talked with Toledo the ECHL, but the Walleye already have three exhibition games. Franke said he may talk with Cincinnati of the ECHL next week after the Cyclones name their new coach.

Your becoming quite the stalker of notanihlfan, Tim..... For someone who dislikes notanihlfan's comments so much you sure do seem to seek them out... I think it would be better for your blood pressure if you just ignored his comments....

I thought you knew, mightbite. First there was this on opening night, October 17, 2008 -- Cincy at Wheeling:

Mitch actually did pretty well for himself there. He didn't go down and he busted Bernier's lip. But he was out of the line-up for the next game. The next game Woods appeared in was the following game, again at Wheeling. He and Bernier charged at one another, but this time, Bernier basically pounded him into the aforementioned little greasy spot. Woods went down BIG time. Then to add insult to injury, Bernier jumped one of Woods' teammates with 4 seconds left in the game just because he could. He got a double rough for that. The Cincy announcer was disgusted. He said, "Congratulations, Bernier. You've skated two whole shifts." Woods was never the same after that. And while I know it is just my own speculation, I've always wondered if it played some role in his deciding to leave Cincy. At the time he left, their next game was scheduled to be in Wheeling again -- their first time back.

Wow, I thought Mitch was too tough to get punked. He might not agree with that analization.

There was a video of that second fight on Youtube, but it seems to have been removed at some point -- not that it ws good footage, but it would have helped illustrate. I know, and I'm not saying that's the case. But I believe at the very least he was injured, and that did play a role in his never feeling comfortable in Cincy. All I know is that one moment he was turning heads at the AHL Penguins camp, taking on all comers, and the next he was... well, you saw how he was last season here. Just not the same.

Tell Mr. David Franke to keep trying, as the player he has been calling missed his call. He is interested, just keep trying. He is as tough as they come. People will understand if and when this guy signs. NHL tough!!!!!!!! Trust me.
