Chaulker--NO OFFENSE TAKEN! My oppinion about the PH reporter was just that "my opinion" I stand by it. I never said he was totally responsable only that he may have contributed to it. I have absolutely no desire to get any facts wrong. I made a mistake, you corrected it and I am very happy you did. I was trying to be polite and have a little bit of fun at the same time. I now have a new appreciation of your serious side. History of teams is well recorded. I am certain that if anyone gets any Komet history wrong you will correct them. That is good to know. I'll try and remember that.
If you you don't know Burgee you may want too. He loves Foo Foos, Little pills and suntans. He also likes sleep when he can get it. I assure you he is harmless!

I need corrected also, I love the K's history and often get my facts wrong.
Here's a question Mr. Schebig:
How do you think the K's from the past three years would fair in a game vs. the 91/93 Komet's?

Could you also point me in the right direction as to where PH writer Mr. Costanzo wrote any other article that pertained to the demise of Muskegon leaving the IHL?
I'd be happy to do the search over at the TimesHerald.com, but I do not believe there is such an article.

Chaulker--I think it is very difficult to compare teams from one year to the next. It is even harder when you try to compare eras. I therefore just stay away from trying. Each team faced different obstacles and problems that needed overcome to be successful. Injuries and competition from other teams to just name two. Most generally it is always easier to look back and remember standout players. I have seen this blog try and figure out who the toughest player or fighter ever was. It depends on what you personally liked or disliked about a certain player or players. The very first Championship Team was really a very good team. Several players went on the NHL. That was before the NHL expanded and deluted the talent base. There were a lot of players in the original IHL that would have played in the NHL if had 20 some teams at that time. To name just a few, Len Thornson, Terry Pemproke and Lionel Repka all would have been in the NHL.
Now your other problem--If you read what I originally wrote. I said had the reporter taken more time to report the positive aspects of the IHL and Muskegon instead of waiting until they decided to leave they may not have. The point I was making and still will make was and is the lack of support by him or others like him that can lead to the demise of a hockey team. Fort Wayne is very blessed to not only have one reporter but two that cover the Komets. We honest reporting both the good and the bad. If we only got negative how long would either they or any team last? I know he didn't write only negative articles but he could have written more positive/supportive stories if he wanted. Did he contribute 100% to the Lumberjacks switching leagues? No way. I still think he may have contributed to some exstent. maybe only 1% but than maybe a whole lot more. It is opinion I admit. But, it is my opinion and you absolutely have every right to disagree. Without any hard feeling!
Chaulker
Tue, 05/25/2010 - 1:09pm
I'm just saying that he didn't write one thing about Muskegon or the IHL up until that article, so there is no 1% and if there is, I'd like to see it. I've seriously read just about every article the guy wrote this year and I have not seen the 1%.
You can compare talent wise how well each team would do if they were pitted against each other. Put them in a vacuum/perfect world, both at the top of their games. It has nothing to do w/ "obstacles", it has to do w/ talent. Who would you think would win? 1993 IHL talent, or 2007-2010 UHL/IHL/CoHL talent?

Chaulker-- I have never had the honor of meeting your reporter friend. He could be the nicest guy in the world. Maybe if I frased my opinion this way you understand what I was getting at. I think instead of what he wrote maybe it should be about what he didn't write. He had all season to support the Icehawks, Lumberjacks and or the IHL. He chose not to as often as he could have. That is OK with me. I just would feel better is he had been more positive about the IHL and it's member clubs in general. That is not to say he is a bad reporter or person. Just like I am sure you are not either.
As far as picking a team I can't do that. I saw all of them play. I liked and hold all of them very dear. Each in it's own way was special. Each in their own way produced a championship. To me that is all that mattered. I may be one of many off-ice officials but that in know way makes me the expert on who is or was the best. I will pass on that challenge. I have seen many great skaters, shooters, puck handlers, checkers, fighters, goal scores, goalies & owners. I respect everyone whomever laced up skates. I am just glad I got to see everyone of them. Most of all I hope to see many many more.

I would disagree, the 1991 team would destroy all of the UHL/IHL championship teams by at least 15 - 20 goals easy.
He's not my friend, he's a reporter who does his job fairly and you're making "opinions" off of nothing he wrote, I don't get it. Point it out and I may agree w/ you, but how can you have an opinion of something that is non-existent? I don't get that.
Chaulker
Tue, 05/25/2010 - 2:20pm
Plus, all he did all season was write about the Icehawks. Why would he write about a league and talk it up if he didn't believe that to be true? Instead of bashing it, he didn't write anything, he just wrote about the Hawks, what's wrong w/ that?

Chaulker, the '72-73 team was my personal favorite. I can still recite the roster of that team today.
Dschebig is one of my favorite people. I was able to meet him during the season and I can assure you there is no greater Komet supporter, fan, and friend than him. He is also an IHL official and takes his job very seriously.
I imagine his closeness to the team would restrict him from feeling comfortable choosing a Komet vs. Komet team. He is right. There are many things that go in to making a team a winner. Talent is just one of them. I use, for an example, the K's vs. San Diego. Man per man San Diego was much more talented than the K's. But, hard work beats talent that does not work hard.
Dschebig may be hesitant to give out too much information. He is close to the action and some things he just cannot make public on a vehicle like this.
So, I think we ought to quit pressing him. He got a date wrong. C'mon I don't believe anything he did is going to "soil" the history of the Komets for those who are looking to become informed.
Chaulker, you would have enjoyed the '72-'73 Komets. They had a little of everything on that team. My favorite player was Brian Walker who once scored a goal on a faceoff. It was from the faceoff circle to the left of the goaltender. He was very talented. Many, many stories about that team.

Why's it a "poison pen" Burgee?? Because you didn't agree w/ it? Read it again and point to me where he's wrong......This is what irritates me the most, disagree w/ the IHL, their dead wrong, last word, move on.
IF you are going to type something that is that detrimental, then why shouldn't you be held accountable for it? My whole purpose of this conversation was to point out how bad some of you are when something pops up that you don't agree w/. You're horrible, yet you can't back it up w/ facts, only opinions. But you scrutinize a reporter in PH because of his opinion??? And say that he's the reason that Musky left? That's blindness IMO, simple and ignorant blindness.
Alan, if Dschebig is an IHL official and he is such an adamant Komet's fan, that leads me to question his honestly when doing what ever he's doing. To me, he would have to be biased to work a game and he's not, obviously. If he's in charge of something that requires a "neutral eye", is he going to give his opinion of it? If I held a position like his, I certainly wouldn't be posting on some fan board, that's just me. Just another reason that the UCIHL is a complete joke, they have fans calling games.
It's not about the date of the K's and the Vagabond's, it's being responsible and accountable for what your stating, especially if he is a man of status.
So in your view Burgee, if you know where I sit, that means I can spread rumor's that have no backing, just as long as you approve my seat #? Sounds lame to me.

Thats what makes it soooooo hard to rank the tougher players or any players for that matter... Differences in era's, size of players, rule changes, speed of the game, expansion of hockey, etc... all make it so hard to rank one player in front of another... Makes for some good debates; but the rankings are only valid really to the person making it because we all see value in players differently....

I am pretty sure the home teams OIO's are from a different city. I made another mistake. You typed Philly and I assumed baseball. Had you said Flyers I would have understood. I'll take the Blackhwaks for Lord Stanley's Cup. In 6 games. Let's get it on!
I'm w/ ya on that!!!! The Hawks take the first 2 at the UC, split on Broadstreet, and win it all in front of the home fans in game 5!!!!!!!!!
GO FLYERS=will be wearing my #8 Schultz jersey on saturday=if I can get it on.
That is a sweet jersey mightbite.....is it the old school one like they wore in the mid 70's?
No I wish it was,its a replica but still nice. I do have a Shawn Cronin game worn Flyers jersey, maybe toughest guy to play in old IHL
I hate a black Flyers jersey w/ John LeClair on the back. One of the best US born hockey players to take the ice.
have, I have
Mightbite, tougher then Cal Purington or Madigan? Seriously, just asking. I think Con Madigan was one of the toughest ever. Ex westcoasters still tremble at his name..... :-)
Sorry, that's Cal Purinton.
