Tailing the Komets

Evansville 1-0 after one

Braden Desmet got WAY behind Guy Dupuis and Craig Cescon for a breakaway three minutes in to give the IceMen a 1-0 lead. Komets had a 1:33 2-man advantage at the end of the period and had three shots on goal and nothing close to scoring.

Since Hit, GM, JM, and myself were the ones being called "morans", "idiots", and being told that we were "full of crap", and that we seem to be some of the few who can take it with a grain of salt and not pout about it, I don't really think your quoted words are that big of a deal.

As bad as some on here are made out to be, I really can't think of any instances where any of the aforementioned people have used such terminology or insults on other bloggers. I could be wrong though, I just do not have the time to read back through all the posts. I'm sure some others who have less to do could probably spend some time sifting through it all to prove me wrong. It just seems to me that those who, for one reason or another, only have this blog to hang onto in life are the ones who cannot discuss what is happening on the ice without reverting to the name-calling.

I do appreciate you reading through the thread of posts from (what are we up to now, 12 according to mightbite?) and focusing on my statements though :) Alright, back to the real world.

I was very impressed with the Komets hustle and desire Sunday, February 20th. Remember? That was the third game in three nights and off a road game in Quad City the day before. You may recall that there was some "discussion" whether the K's would have anything left or would be too fatigued.

They showed up and played hard, skated fast, made the plays, consistently beating Dayton to the loose pucks, and won.

Unfortunately, that is the last game that I saw where they have demonstated any of those things. Last night's game was a replay of Saturday night. the 26th. Evansville outskated and out-hustled the Komets all night long. They constantly moved the puck, always had a "jump" on the Komets for the loose pucks, went to the net, created scoring chances, played the zone trap, and frustrated Fort Wayne all night long.

Still, the Komets won and that is the important thing, I guess. Yet, I know that something was missing from watching the last couple of efforts and the fact that they felt they needed a closed door meeting also. They know something is wrong, too.

They seem frustrated and when Thomas scored the game winner with 1.4 seconds left in overtime they massed directly below me and celebrated as if they had just won another playoff championship.

Again the Komets have morphed into the team that played before Christmas, not after Christmas.

With the stickhandling talent on this team (hopefully including Ratchuk for the rest of the year), the Komets shouldn't have this much trouble with the trap! You either pass the puck from side to side then straight up the weakside as the other team maneuvers, or just take it in alone.

Shrock may be out for a long time. Podshendyalov and Mirasty will have to play. Regardless of what anybody thinks about an individual player, THIS is the team that will go on from here.

This team, roster and coaches alike, just have to DO THE WORK.

my goodness. with all this talk about all the aa teams merging and making geographical divisions, youd think that all of your names were franke. isnt this exactly what the frankees have been preaching all along?????

Alan, great points. I was at the game last Saturday. I had posted on another thread that I thought there were some peculiar personel combinations in that game. Not just in the last three or four minutes when it got away. Leo, for example is a hard worker and seemed to be with a different set of wingers every time he was on the ice. The 5 minute power play really highlighted the entire team's disconnect.
These combinations led to some confusion and Evanville took advantage.
Your last sentence says it all. Just because they are out of the celler doesn't mean a thing. They have to work every night. Think every night. And Coaches are certainly a big part of the overall "effort" required.
More than enough reason for a "closed door" after the last 3 games.

JR1, that wasn't the CHL commish making those comments. It was Chris Presson whose the president of QC. I wouldn't put so much stock in it considering the source.

Yep, I read thru it too quickly and goofed up who actually talked about the merger; but it mirrored something I had heard in passing a few months back and got excited about the thought that someone in a position of authority was actually talking some sense...

Lets face it, the only way to make sense of the hockey landscape is for everyone to come together and make it happen... The only reason the K's arent in the ECHL comes down to money. The ECHL wanted an entrance fee and the K's would have lost thier logo rights. Trying to find 5 other weak ownership groups to form a league and prop up with a figurehead commishioner to run it the way you want to isnt the answer....

RK: Just quoting your post to say that, hey, maybe if someone is shouting, "You're an idiot!" at you, it might be reason to get a little bit aggravated. But not to call-out anyone in particular. There are plenty of guilty parties around here when it comes to that. I'm pretty sure that's what Blake is saying turns people off.

And no, I don't have a life. You say that like's it's a bad thing! :D Observe, Lord RunningKomet, I am married... to hockey. And if you're as smart as you say you are, I'm sure you know what I'm parodying with that.

GM, does that halo ever get heavy? ;) It wasn't meant to be a direct quote. There are many, many ways to insult a person. I will go through the blog thread by thread if you want. Like I said, I really don't have anything better to do.

Mirasty will not be on playoff roster. just my thought.

Problem is, that would put me in a position where it looks like I'm calling people out for something that I freely admit to having done myself. I'm no hypocrite. My point here is not that it has occurred. Everyone knows darn well that it happens every day. I'm just miffed by those of you who are saying, "Who? Me?!" when Blake calls you out for it. And yes, Blake has said things that were insulting too. Of course it is his blog, so I guess if anyone gets a free pass, it's him.

Regarding Mirasty: If they have to cut people for the roster, yeah, I think there's a good chance he'll be gone. That's how it generally works.

With Mirasty's experience and smart play it would be completely stupid to keep him off the roster. When he does play, he is very smart and creates a lot of room out there. Sims just has no idea how to utilize a tough guy. Mirasty is the highest paid player in this league so I'm sure he cares less about what's going on. Sims just needs to learn how to use him.

GM, you don't? I think life ends when you stop believing you can make a difference in this world.

And I never watched Lifetime. In my household, I'm the one always saying, "Quiet! The game's on!"

But since this is supposed to be about hockey, awesome game between the Ducks and Stars tonight... even better because I had picked the Ducks to win.
