Rob Nolan is signing is Missouri, according to David Franke, who said he's signing for the same money the Komets offered but wanted to be the No. 1 goaltender. Tyler Sims is also about to sign with Tulsa so he won't be in the Fort Wayne mix.
As for what the Komets are looking for to fill their two roster holes, Franke said it's still a back-up/co-No. 1 goaltender and an enforcer.
``We'll be patient. We've got a lot of time. We're checking out some young kids. It's not an emergenchy that we get it done immediately.''
I asked if not getting Nolan would add more money to the other position, and he said not likely, that Nolan would have been getting a raise over what he made in Flint last year, and it would have fallen into the slot the Komets have left under the salary cap.
I've got a call into the coliseum on the ribbon advertising. I haven't heard that it won't be done, and I'd guess we'd have heard about that by now if it was not going to happen. (I know, famous last words).

Steve: So is it actually considered incorrect to use the word "that" in that manner? I don't recall any rules against it. Granted, the sentence works just as well without it, but I've always thought of it as more of a personal choice in writing style than as something incorrect. Even looking it up now, I find can't find a specific rule mentioned -- just information about when you need to use "that" and when you don't.
As for spelling, I always did okay, but I learned to be even better at it. One does if every time you're not sure how to spell something, you must stop what you are doing and look it up in an actual dictionary. After the fourth or fifth time looking up the same word, you make a point to remember.
Geesh... Has there ever been this little to talk about?

Wendy, actually consult a rule book? That's a novel idea when discussing rules! Following your lead I went down to my den and dug out three books that I refer to when in doubt although I must admit it has been several years since I've even looked at two of them.
You're correct, no hard rules, just indication and examples comparing "that" to "which". "That" is generally used to introduce a restrictive or essential subordinate clause. Then one book gives an example that if I had written the sentence I would have left it out. :-)
"The Associated Press Stylebook" goes a bit beyond that by saying it should be used to introduce a dependent clause if the sentence sounds or looks awkward without it. It then gives several examples when "that" should be used, where it's usually necessary, and when it is required.
All I know is that thanks to you I now know that I'm not breaking any rules so I'll be less concerned about over using it. Thank you.... :-)
I will still continue to struggle with spelling no matter how many times in the past I've looked a word up in the dictionary. For some reason they just don't stick.
I also over use commas, but we can save that for next summer when things get slow.
That's ok, I still struggle with when I should use a semi-colon (;) instead of a comma (,) in certain situations and I'm a full time college student!
I give up! I now know I can not spell very good. My grammer is most likely
is just as bad. I don't know when to use comma's, semi colon's or colon's let alone quotation marks. I do know that we need hockey and very soon.
Just so you all know the "Ribbon Banners" are setting outside the Coliseum.
They look like they are ready to be installed.
I have read this and re-read it. I hope it looks presentable! :)
Eh, I'm lazy these days. I just use an online dictionary or MS Word for corrections. Amen about the commas. My rule is this: If it looks like too many, it probably is. And I hate semi-colons. The only time I use them is when I'm running two short sentences together. Otherwise, I'll rewrite a sentence just to avoid needing them.
Oop's A Bill Clinton mistake. One to many is's. I guess it depends on your definition of what is is!
Sorry, No Politics! My bad! :)
