Tailing the Komets

It's already 3-0 Komets

Three great passing plays by the Komets who are using their speed all over the ice. Looks like they are just carrying over their play from the third period last night.

Two pretty good fights between Cescon and Richards and then

I saw posted somewhere else that the guys we have... Shrock, Cescon, Phillips... are more scrappers than enforcers and I tend to agree. That was abundantly clear during the 2nd brawl last night. Even if we hadn't been outnumbered with Gale not getting to the box we were drastically outsized. I was never that big a fan of Mac as I thought he sometimes caused as much embarrassment as entertainment with some of the stuff he did, but I don't think there's anybody on the roster that opponents look at and think, "I REALLY don't want THAT guy coming after me."

RobC I agree with you. But I think this league would do better to get rid of the Macmillans, Goulets and other guys who bring nothing to the table but fists.
Let the scrappers fight when it is needed. But those guys tend to be smart about it. They don't put their team at risk with suspensions for emotional stupidity.
It is a delicate situation. We go get a goon. Now does Dayton feel the need to rush out and get one? Pretty soon every team has one or two blockheads taking up spots and adding nothing to the game but a staged fight with the other teams goon. Or worse yet the goon will jump a non goon (see Goulet).
And please all of the "we" out there. Don't tell me "if you have a goon then the goon on the other team will think twice about jumping our stars" They are goons for a reason. They don't care. Coaches are not going to juggle lines based on the fear that the idiot coach from Kansas might send out his goon to jump someone. It would be great if we could just stop the game at the 18 minute mark of the second period and let the goons fight each other. Get it over with, give those fans who enjoy fighting what they want.
But it doesn't work that way.

So....for the "we" crowd out there....twist this.

My position on fighting is simple. If it happens due to normal course of the game emotion I have no problem. Two guys go hard into the boards and one guy thinks the other guy brought his elbow up and they go at it, great! Better that than using sticks.
When you see the goons step out on the ice, talk to each other and decide to start swinging for no reason other than they have nothing else to do then I think it takes away from the game.
Yeah....I know buster and bruno sitting up in the upper deck love it. They are the same type that only watch racing for the crashes.

Off to my super bowl party. Twist away.....and go Steelers!

Snuff, if you are so upset by the things that the Frankes have done for this team....then why don't you buy the team or stop buying your advertising from them?

Hit 'em where it hurts them most.

Tell them that you don't want Colin Chaulk, or Tab Lardner, or Guy Dupuis.

Tell them you don't want Mirasty.

Tell them you want USHL hockey.

Tell them that they don't know what they are doing bringing back Chaulk.

That was an awful mistake bringing Chaulk back. The team has nose-dived since then.

You take the cake Snuff.

I was joking around with you at first....but not now.

I am gonna sick Burgee on you...you...you....Negative Nellie!!!

I actually agree with Snuff quite a bit on his view on fighting, hence my not completely positive view of Mac, even though I am interested to see Mirasty play next weekend.

I didn't move to the Fort until '05. Lived in Indy before and was an Ice fan until they went to the USHL. I just wasn't as interested in watching kids for whatever reason.

I used to love the way Market Square Arena would sell out every time the Komets came down... the Prokopec incident at MSA... and 2 Komets players jumping him after he came out of the box... I don't mind the rough stuff much so long as it's not one sided, silly and needless like last night and the Musky Halloween incident.

Please make welcome for the new generation fans, the ones who started following the team when the Komets started winning championships in the iHL.

Its very obvious that alot of these fans on here are from the new soft generation of hockey.....wow......JM fanbase has become this soft.....So that they complain so much to the frankes so much they had to take the goal song out.......family friendly environment.....but its a trickly down affect in everything we do unfortunately...schools....sports....etc.....ugh sad sad......Maybe the Komets can have a hand out at a game for ear plugs and something to cover there eyes with because we dont want soft fans see such ugly fighting like last night...

These fans would've gotten so upset during Komets/Toledo or Komets/Indy games that they'd vomit all over themselves and the row infront of them.

What some call soft fans others would call more sophisticated. The game back in the 1990's against the Vipers when there was 3 fights in the first 13 or so seconds got me out of my seat along with everyone else.
15 or so years later I can take it or leave it. I don't leave the arena upset if there are no fights.

Now ask me if I would still get up on my feet if the same 3 in 13 seconds happened? I would have to admit yes I would.
Is it possible to enjoy something you don't really see a point in?
If our new goon gets into a senseless fight with an opposing goon I will probably be up and cheering while at the same time thinking "can we stop this nonsense and get back to a hockey game?"
At the same time when Schrock is in front of the net doing his thing and he gets cross checked and then he turns around and hammers the guy who did it, I'll still stand up and cheer and say that this fight was a real part of hockey.

So you're a hypocrite..

Also, haven't seen anyone saying they expect to see this happen every game nor have I seen anyone say if a fight doesn't happen that they leave the game disappointed.

You can be a sophisticated fanatic??? Who knew???

The Plus' to having a guy like Mirasty (or any good enforcer) in the lineup are:

1. Guys like Lardner are alot less likely to have to fight a guy like Steven Crampton or get jumped by a guy like Granbois...

2. Players like Schrock, Molle, Cescon are not going to have to fight guys like Goulet who have 4-6 inches and 50 pounds on them; but instead will only have to fight guys more in thier weight class, those heat of the moment type fights...

3. Players will think twice about jumping a Komet or double teaming a Komet if they think they may have to take the same treatment from a guy like Mirasty later in the game...

4. Every player starts to play a little bigger, hit a lil more often, and have the confidence that a guy like Mirasty is going to have thier back...

5. Butts in seats... I dont think I'm blowing things out iof proportion by saying that a guy like Mirasty can add another 500-1000 fans in the stands, especially once the word gets out... People like crazy, look at the MMA (its booming).

There is always a downside to having a player like Mirasty in the lineup, its not all positives. Like the Wichita players saturday night, they tend to go a lil nutty on occasion. K's will have to kill off a few extra penalties, endure a couple suspensions, and hold thier breath during games like Saturday when things get out of hand. I do think that having a guy like Mirasty in the lineup carries more positives than negatives, IMO...

You know when hockey fans have become "soft" in my opinion when the first thing they start to talk about after a game like saturday nights is suspensions or start calling it bush league...

After Saturday, I just hope the K's meet Wichita in the playoffs.... :)

goon will be a goon no matter what.. Think someone made this point during the argument. Oh so very true... If a goon wants to beat someone up he will..

HOWEVER.. You think Richards and Goulet want to jump our players like that with Mirasty sitting on the end of the bench? THINK about it.. They beat up our guys then get kicked out... then what happens? Mirasty gets HIS shift without them on the ice... SO Richards and Goulet better think long and hard on what they do, b/c Mirasty would be taking notes and dishing out paybacks to their players.. Kinda keeps everyone honest when both teams have the big guns...when only 1 team has the goon is makes for rough times on star players...
