Tailing the Komets

Michael Franke on the Komets' immediate future

``We've committed to the Central Hockey League,'' he said. ``There's no question about that. I'm satisfied with things in the CHL, but I'm not satisfied with things going on in the industry, and that's a broken record for me. I've been saying this for a long time.

``We have a lot of smart people in the business now, probably a better group than we've had in a number of years. I'm sure all of those businessmen and businesswomen who are involved in ownership of these teams are begining to do all the right things. I think we started that process out last spring. It's just an interesting time. I choose to be optimistic that things are going to work out well for minor league hockey.''

Thank you, JR1. So the Eagles are rumored to be going to the ECHL and the STH renewal forms just happen to have the correct number of regular season ECHL games. Sounds to me like it is much more than a coincidence.

It doesn't make much sense for Colorado to leave and for Rapid City to stay. As I said earlier, they need to be together so they have "partners" reasonably close to them.

If Allen would leave the remaining Texas teams plus Arizona would be in deep trouble (especially without Bossier-Shreveport).

The CHL is so spread out that even if a couple of western teams leave, the entire league just gets more ridiculous as far as travel is concerned.

I didn't know about Reno. I did know about Greensboro. They have had trouble keeping hockey going in that city. I did know about Chicago also.

I believe one of the news articles stated that the CHL needed their teams to commit soon. I believe the same article said the SPHL needed commitments tomorrow ( Tuesday). If that is true then a lot of questions will be answered soon.

I know that everything is just speculation for now and I thank you for the info.

I am going to wait and see how things develop.

Just to be fair I want to correct my post above. The story read that the SPHL needed commitments sometime this month, not tomorrow. Plus Cohn has reported that the CHL does not have a commitment deadline of tomorrow.

So if all that is true, we should know which, if any, CHL teams are leaving for the SPHL by the end of this month.

Alan, It is the Columbia franchise that is dormant right now, not Greensboro... My mistake.

Also, here are a couple articles about the state of the CHL....
