Tailing the Komets

Komets are red-hot

The Komets won their sixth consecutive game overall and sixth in a row on the road Friday night, 4-1 over Bloomington. They'll try to stretch both streaks to seven at Flint tonight before hosting the Generals on Sunday.

P.C. Drouin scored a goal and two assists and Nick Boucher made 26 saves for the Komets, including stopping a penalty shot in the second period against Bloomington's Bill Bagron. Boucher had turned the puck over and in the ensuing scramble threw his stick at the puck. The Komets were leading 2-0 at the time.

“We just missed a goal at the other end, and then we mishandled the puck,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. “Then he missed the net on the penalty shot. It was a pretty big moment.”

The Komets also got goals from Guy Dupuis, Bobby Phillips and Matt Syroczynski.

Fort Wayne allowed only five shots on goal in the second period and out-shot the PrairieThunder 28-27 in the game.

“We played really well in the neutral zone and slowed them down,” Sims said. “They had trouble getting to the red line and into our end with any speed.”

Leading goal-scorer Leo Thomas returned to the Fort Wayne lineup after missing Wednesday's game with a sore knee, but Konstantin Shafranov missed the game with the flu. Komets General Manager David Franke also said Friday the team would like to hold David Hukalo out of the lineup until Wednesday's home game against Bloomington if possible. Hukalo is on injured reserve with torn back muscles but is just about ready to play.

Apparently you can't speak for EVERYONE, Blake. Sorry you're unhappy with our posts, oh great one. Ok, so I lied. It's sunny and pushing 60 degrees, I honestly couldn't care less :)

Yeah, it's just when you guys act like idiots and dominate the discussion the hits go way down on the blog.

But your buddies can say what they please with no retribution, correct?? Can call people all sorts of names; but thats ok, right??? The word hypocricy comes to mind......

The hits on this blog need no worries.

If JR and Frozen get a +1.....well, then technically everyone on the blog in this thread get a +. Just like players do when a guy scores a goal, the other skaters get a + for it. So Pluses for everyone.......Yipee!!!!!

No name calling please. Frozen and JR aren't idiots for their opinions.

The Komets aren't as good as they were last season or the year before that. I have come to except that. Not a big deal. You can't win every year. But diehard fans like to see their team win. There is nothing wrong with that, either.

I agree, SuperFan jinxed this whole thing with this topic. They were winning, and since the post, they lost 2 times to Flint. It's all your fault SuperFan. It is like saying in the 7th inning that a pitcher has a perfect game going. Dang it!!! LOL

The inconsistancy of this team has been consistant all year long.

Anyone get that?

I wonder what next season will bring? New players? Some of the same guys? A mix of both? New League? New teams in same league? Different level?

I heard a rumor that a Franke was seen down south watching Osman play in a different league, and they were talking to the owners there......??? Not sure what that means if anything at all, might not mean a thing. But who knows for sure what this summer might bring.

It is sad to see favorite players have bad seasons after having such great seasons. But it happens. Nature of sports.

I am a Cubs fan, so I am always waiting til next year.....and I am all ready thinking about the Cubs for 2011. So is Blake.

Now, now, no name-calling, remember? Differing opinions equate to people being idiots? How is either of them joking around (ABOUT HOCKEY) more idiotic than your jokes with the red heads, pill-poppers, or fruit cake nuts? It seems more like you're mad because they seem to have good enough memories to back up what they said previously and you can't handle it that you may not be the only one who knows everything. Watch out JR, FW, and even JM for thinking it's funny. When the nice guy gets frustrated he doesn't handle it well. Be ready for a tirade thread, or if you're lucky, he'll really throw a fit and publish all of your e-mails for everyone although the site specifically says they won't be published (that was my personal favorite meltdown). Pushing 95 hits on this thread alone doesn't seem like anything is "way down" either. It could be that it's a Monday after a loss and that people went back to work today. This blog is always dead early in the week.

If having fun on here or having differing opinions makes someone an idiot, I think pretty much any human on the planet is an idiot. Dschebig, I know you're a loyal dog (your words), but at some point you may want to shoot your differing opinions speech in the direction of your master, he could use a refresher. I personally didn't see anything they wrote worth being deemed acting like idiots, but then again, I've never claimed to be a big-time sports reporter who is qualified to make such calls.

JM: I agree with everything you wrote above except for the part about Woods. He terrifies me, especially in close games, when he is on the ice and "trying to draw penalties."
The whole talking to the refs while play is still going on seems to happen a lot in this league, but I can honestly say I notice players from about every single team doing it. I like it when the opposing teams do it, but it drives me nuts when our Komets complain and the puck is 3/4 the way down the ice before they decide to get going.

Right or wrong, it's still fun reading the blog, no matter what the daily topic is, whether it's jersey costs, your kid's stats from playing junior hockey, dog biscuits, fruit cakes, red heads (sorry, brunettes are better lol!), or the upcoming daylight savings time change (adjust your clocks this weekend, kids!).

Dang, Alan, I don't know how you write these books all the time. That really takes a lot out of you.

I know I'm just an idiot, but did anyone else love what they saw out of the exchange between Chaulk and the Flint guy who was holding his stick? Chaulk kind of pulled him in when the ref wasn't looking, then put him on his back. THAT was smart Komet hockey and was great to see, even if only for a small snapshot of time.

Hit, RK, and JR: Agreed. Each of you get a +, with Hit getting ++ for a good analysis of the season and our expectations.

So everyone gets 3 +'s since we are using the hockey +/- system.

Heck, Bertram and Warner aren't on here and they just got 5 more +'s. And Warner was given an assist on the Komet's second goal after further review. LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist. Guess I am an idiot too.

I guess everyone is a winner.

It is too bad that they don't use plus minus in basketball. I would love to be on Kobi's team or Lebron's team. Heck, you could stand at half-court and pick your butt all night long and get 60 +'s.

Nevermind.

RK--Please re-read my post....I never called you or anyone else an idiot! Sorry to burst your bubble....... What I said was people who have no idea what they are talking about are idiots. If that shoe fits you wear it. I don't think it does but than maybe you do. Some bloggers (not all) just need to vent. This is a good place for you (if so inclined) and others to do it. Please feel free to vent. I just wish I knew all I have forgot. Some people get way to tide up in themselves. That was not directed at you RK.

Picking on the "Blog Master" is totally out of line. I don't care who you are. We all owe Blake a huge debt of gratitude. Blake is always ahead of the curve with the super straight skinny. Ask him any question about the IHL or the Komets and you get the answer to the best of his ability. I am sure I can speak for a few bloggers Steve, Chuckitt, Burgee, Mark21 just too name a few who trust and depend on Blake for honest reporting. We also appreciate all of his efforts with this blog. If anyone disagrees please go someplace else.

Dschebig: I know you didn't call anyone an idiot. While you and I may have had our disagreements and differing opinions in the past, I know you'd never call anyone an idiot. You are too much of a good guy to do that, and that is not what I said. Please re-read MY post :) I will disagree with you though that picking on the "blog master" is out of line though. People have the right to defend themselves, no matter who is throwing down the gauntlet.

Blueline: We'll agree to disagree on the hair color. I'm not going to label or make any assumptions, but I'm guessing I've experienced more of both than you have. However, not knowing your personal life, I will not judge LOL!

You really think that's the rudest thing you've ever seen on this blog? You must read over a lot of things. That's pretty sensitive for a hardcore hockey fan such as yourself. Is there an area that you sit in at the Komets games where you don't hear anything also, like a kids' play zone or something? I'd think one game there would make you pretty immune to almost anything you could ever read on this blog. I work with nothing but over-sensitive women who will gladly break out the teeth and fingernails at even the slightest hint of an insult and they throw around "Blow it out your rear" like it's "Good morning." Wow, I've learned something on here. Thank you for the lesson. Next time I will try to make my responses more Sesame Street friendly. My apologies.

Hahahhaa, Hit and MR. S. This has been fun and a great way to relieve stress after a LONG Monday. No hard feelings anyone, not even Blakie-Poo. Usually after a bad day I have to go and drop some money to either shoot off some 12 gauge shells or go bowling. This was MUCH cheaper! In the end, we're all on the same team come Wednesday. A good night to all!

Cha ching, Blog foul, Mightbite, I am the only hillbilly idiot on here, you must sit in box and feel shame without hockey pucks, dog biscuits, foo foo drinks or redheaded hockey chicks and you must wear a Duhart jersey!

P.S. What Schebig said! Schebig speaks for me and the rest of the unsilent majority.

Sometimes I read the posts on here and wonder what the difference is between a blog vs forum/sig/bbs/etc. Maybe a topic for another discussion this summer when things are slow.

For mightbite, hang in there, I think Wood's goal is just around the corner. I'm not a hillbilly but I use to be married to one, from higgnight hollar (hollow for you non-hill folk) KY. Great family, we're still close.

I agree about Chaulker's move, I thought I was going to fall out of my sear and roll down the isle laughing. Yeah, that's old time Komet hockey. Eddie Long use to be good at ankle whacking when the ref wasn't looking.

A question about the Schrock v Smith fight. It looked to me like Smith's jersey wasn't tied down, anyone else notice?

Blueline Baby

Eddie Long was awesome. Wish I could have seen the guy play personally. He'd be a great teacher for anyone willing to learn from him now.

Steve, I just noticed that nothing seemed to be left of any of the upper half of Smith's clothes/pads by the time he got to the penalty box. That jersey could not have been too secure. But that rule only applies to Colin Chaulk, right? :)

And how many times does Smith have to get his butt kicked before he learns to not run his mouth to the butt-kickers on the various teams? Jeez....he's been hit with a few pucks, that one has....
