Tailing the Komets

Nothing new, yet

According to Komets president Michael Franke, "By early next week I think we'll have some information. I will tell you that the schedling meeing and the all the drafts have been rescheduled and will be coming up late next week."

Asked if he had any plans on heading to Quad City early next week, Franke said, "I can't say."

Asked about news out of Flint, "The ownership group is in place. We'll know more within 7-to-10 days."

Everybody have a good weekend and try to stay cool. I'm going on vacation, but I'll be checking in.

Dschebig: A guy I work with is a huge Hawks fan and he seemed undecided... Isn't 12 years quite a long deal?? I'm a Pens fan and hate Hossa for being a traitor in my eyes. He's earned his curse. I just feel for the Hawks though because I like a lot of guys they have on their team. Hopefully Hossa's past doesn't carry over to the Hawks...

Yeah, 12 years did seem long to me, even for a long-term contract in this economy. Besides, I'd be shocked if he's there that long. But I understand the deal has him getting most of the money in the first 7 years.

You bet 12 yrs. is a long time. I could handle $7.5 million for seven years.I am not sure how years are in fact guarenteed. My guess is Chicago's salary cap is really going to be stressed. I agree with Wendy He will never stay there for 12 yrs. He is a good hockey play but he is no Chris Cheleo's. One thing for sure the price of a seat in the United Centre will be going up. Know one will say a word if they win the Stanley Cup. Aren't we hockey fans great?

First time posting. Who are you guys looking to get from Kzoo & why? Just curious. I am hoping for Jordon Little. Big (D) man can skate, hit, clear the net & not afraid to drop the gloves. I seen a couple post about Mark Nebus, do not know much about him, if someone could fill me in. Thanks.

I have not seen any news on the schedule as yet but I hope that for Dayton, Quad City, Flint, and Port Huron their first game would be a home game. I believe that it is important for them to get some gate receipts as quickly as possible so they can start the season on an income producing note. With seven teams there will be one team idle all the time. I think it would be wise for Bloomington to go to Quad City opening night and then have Quad City go to Bloomington the next night. I think Fort Wayne should go to Dayton opening night, and have Muskegon either visit Flint or Port Huron. The team that is idle opening night (Flint or Port Huron) would play at home the next night. I hope that the league will not allow Flint any more of those Thursday night games. They were a disaster.

All the IHL drafts are to be today so hopefully by the end of the day will know who picked and who we lost.

Drouin and Bertram resigned, along with two other names I didn't recognize. I don't know, Bertram is a fan-favorite but he's awefully slow and I wasn't too convinced by his play last season. Nothing at all against him, I know he's been there in the past, but he doesn't throw his weight around as much anymore and several games it just didn't seem like he was as in to it... Alright, start attacking me.... NOW!

The two rookies they sign Woodard and Laise are not going to fill roles of being "tough" guys, didn't rack up a lot pim's or points for that matter

Woodard http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=93847

Laise http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=85702

Also Kevin Hansen has sign with Port Huron. Would have loved to have him back in a K's uniform liked the way he played the game, plus he would have been a huge upgrade to our blue-line

Oh goody, another year of my mom screaming "Keep your stick on the ice, PC!" in my ear. :P Seriously though, I like PC and I'm glad he's back but I just hope we see more of the PC who hustles than the PC who floats... I am a little surprised to see Bert's back, he seemed done in by the end of the year. I like him too, though so it's all good. I had hoped to someday see Hansen back in the Fort, oh well.

I too am surprised by Bertram's return. Maybe last year was the hurt Bert? I hope that was the excuse, because he was super slow and non-physical. Maybe he comes back healthy and makes a physical difference, if not, nothing against him, but he would be in the way and a waste of a veteran spot.

PC the hustler would be a nice change. No offense to him at all, but it does appear he goes into cruise control at times and then his hockey-sense goes away too.

Both guys need a fire lit under their arses most of the time.

Let's hope they both are healthy and are looking to give it 85% most of the time.....is that asking too much?

We got Stayzer and Cross from Kzoo.

Thu, 07/02/2009 - 2:45pm

Oh well. Not Earth Shattering News by any means. Cross and Stayzer? blah.

Curadeau must have an AHL deal in the works or he would be protected by the K's.

Laplante, no surprise.

MVL, No surprise. He was valuable during the injuries, but we have plenty of guns I am sure to forget about him.

Anyone else Surprised that Legault remains protected by the Komets and that if he was unprotected that Dayton didn't take him?

I'm just surprised that MVL was the first pick! No big surprise on Curadeau or Laplante. I really don't think either one of them will report. Laplante was talking about retirement and Curadeau will probably move up or head across the ocean somewhere. Honestly, in about six months we won't even remember them...sad to say. I wish them all the best though.

Too bad Muskegon got both Lucas Drake and Tommy Lange; thay are both good players and now the Jacks have loaded up even more on talent. Glad to see we at least got Justin Cross out of the deal and I'm sure many will be glad to see another bruiser on the team with Stayzer. At least he can skate...unlike some others we won't even mention.

Now let's get busy and sign Chaulker and really make my day!

I will take Brad MacMillan over Stayzer anyday both in hockey talent and toughness. But whose to say maybe we have room for 2 or 3 or 4 tough guys this season? Mitch Woods? Robin Big Snake?

RunningKomet

I hope Sims can teach Stayzer to keep his trap shut. I still hate him from last year and it'll take awhile to switch that around, even if he is in a nicer uniform. Just seemed like once we got him running his mouth, he was either in the box or a non-factor the rest of the game.
At least one of my veteran season ticket holders figured out who I am on here and let me know all the reasons why Bert is a good keeper through a text, so I'll back off on that one and see how it all pans out. At least a couple people seem to feel the same way, so I don't feel like a total idiot.
Always liked Hansen, too. Hopefully Port Huron doesn't totally ruin him. He'll be hard to hate, but the jersey may be just enough of a distraction for me to manage it.
In any event, it's time to hear some more signing news hopefully soon!

all i can say is bert had a lot on his plate last year and i was surprised he didnt take a leave of absence. hopefully everything is under control this year and we will see the good bert instead of the one takin up space. interesting to see how stayzer will pan out once hes with a good team with a good coach(if he reports)

Here'a the deal. Twenty six per cent of the players signed by opening day will not be on the final season roster. For those of you that think that the Bertram signing was a disappointment need to know this: his daughter was very ill during the season and needed to be treated at Riley's off and on. When he was absent the Komets released information that he had a shoulder injury. His absence was because of his daughter and he should be commended for the way he played. It would have been easy for him to quit and I think we owe him a lot of respect for doing the job he did. Sometimes things are not always as they appear.

Wow...I never knew that about Bertram. What a great dad! Some kids could really use a dad like him. I am personally a Bertram lover. His personality is contagious.

Geesh, how does everyone always know this stuff (except me) when no one will talk about it? I understand the right to privacy, but if no one tells the fans what's really going on, they aren't going to care. So of course they'll rip on you and put you down. One can't sympathize with a player over problems they don't know the player has. I guess I've just never understood all the secrecy since I'm ridiculously open myself. Just try me. Ask me anything. Anything at all. But that's me.

I can understand why he wouldn't think it's the public's business. I'm kinda under the impression it still isn't our business in all honesty. Where did the 26% come from, Alan? Is that written somewhere? So Stayzer might not report?? Can't say I'd lose too much sleep in that scenario. In any event, I'm still on a high that we have a couple of new teams coming into the league. Can't wait to see how the upcoming season pans out!
