The Fort Wayne crowd actually booed when a penalty was called on a visiting player. That's how bad the officiating was in the second period Saturday night. And no, I really don't blame Ken Gallagher (so I didn't break my own rule).
Part of being an official is having a feel for the game, and the current UHL style of calling everything in some ways takes that feel of the game away from the officials. It's sort of like the three strikes rule with federal sentencing. It takes away from allowing the judge to use any common sense. It's the same thing with the UHL rules.
Gallagher is just doing what the league has told him to do which was call everything. All that did was lead to frustration from the players on both teams and the fans. Hint, hint, the league better be concerned about the last of those rather than the first two.
For whatever reason, this style is not working. The inconsistency from night to night is killing the entertainment value of the game. It's another thing for the owners to go on radio and such and complain about it. You are the owners, the board of governors, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
In happier news, I got hit by a Scoop guy today in what was an awesome fete. Not really. I had to get to the game late tonight and was standing behind the net after the first period as they went onto the ice. Thankfully, he didnt whip it at me too hard. Good time was had by all.
And then the second period started. Yawn.
Who wants to watch this any more? I don't, and I'm getting paid for it. I can't imagine there are any fans left who do.
The other thing that is happening, I believe, is the players are saying the heck with it. If I'm going to get called for it, I better get my money's worth.
Too bad the fans can't do the same.

I think the old "sledgematic" Gallagher must have been making up for not having another game this week, so he called 2 games worth of penalties in the Komets game. Lucky us!
Mario is Super tonight....2 goals!!! Just got a PP goal! 2-0 K's....McWhinney in net!
of course he couldn't get any more than one goal last night so we could hear the greatest sound bytes ever oh well and as far as the bears someone needs to watch their comments lol i could easily be swayed to root against the colts
Da Bores! I'm sitting here crying in my root beer trying to drown my sorrow so I don't yell at Hit anymore.
Sigh.
Now I have to watch the Dolts with my brother tonight, praying they lose as well.
Oh, the shame!
Can we all agree on this? It doesn't matter who is to blame but more who is going to fix this mess. That has to be the owners. IT's their money, they set the tone, they have the power. They have to stand up and be counted. Period.
If the league wants to stick to its guns, then the owners have to pay more money to hire supervisors to be at every game to work with the officials and the teams. You can't make a fundamental change it the way games are being called halfway.
And coaches need to take a stick and beat the players over the head until they get it. Or start sitting them down.
I'll give Pat Bingham a lot of credit for telling the truth and saying it's the players' fault a lot of the times. I haven't heard any other coach step up and say that.
Hopefully by next week at this time we can talk about something else.
I can agree with that as long as the owners say hey we realize it's a problem and WE"LL fix it and not just complain about like u fans
I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I think that even if the league sticks to the way the rules are being called and the fans except it, it's going to still backfire. From my understanding, the league's theory is that if you call all of the holding and stickwork it will open up the ice for the talented players which in turn should lead to more scoring opportunities. While this may work in the NHL, I don't think that'll work for the U. I think at this level, if the guys can't use some of the same tactics, they won't be able to provide efficient defensive play. The talent just isn't there for the most part, league wide. Because of that, teams will have to readjust their system to make it a much more defensive style of play. And if you're playing a defensive style of hockey, there will not be the same amount of scoring chances. The play will be much more conservative because it will become too risky to take any offensive chances that would put the defense at a disadvantage. Alot of the rule changes they have made in the last two years have been good ones. They have added to the offense of the game. Calling the rules like this will only cause the game to digress, and put importance on the defensive play once again. So yeah, that's my theory on it. I'd really like to hear what other people have to say about this.
what a wierd game. Well I am off to work. The kid didnt play bad
WOW! just as I was about to give up!
The Rock....The hat trick!!!!!
Let's go K's
Whoooohooooooo!!! I love this team. Way to go DANNY!!
Bring on the Fury!!!!
Blake, I was really disappointed that 'Da Bears made so many costly errors that bit them in the butt today....however, I think the Colts WILL be a more entertaining game. I'm not predicting the results, but as long as the run defence is decent....I like the Colt's chances. BTW, you're always welcome to come over here and watch it on my HD big screen.
Nothing better than HD....I can't stand standard definition tv any longer. FOX 55 needs to wake up and make the switch. What the heck are they thinking over there. This is not the 1950's anymore. Their signal is and picture quality is worse than black and white tv. Get with the picture FOX!
The ECHL has two interesting videos on their website regarding enforcement of rules both for their league and the NHL. videos can be found here :

I just do not understand the refs this year and the new rules. If they are going to be fair then open there eyes and call the penalities on both teams. It is so boring when all you do is just tap the person and boom you get to go in the penalty box. Some of the calls were wait a minute what was that etc.
They are taking the love of the sport right out of the game. Yes it should be the love of the game for families but I feel they have taken it to far. It will drive the fans right out of the building. When our section decided to throw things on the ice I couldn't believe how stupid people could be. Just one slip on the ice with a coin and our player or away player could be injured for life. So fans the ones that are guilty stay home you are embarrassing the ones that are true fans.
I also feel that they should do promos for family fun night. Like the wizards do. The prices for tickets, drinks and food are outragous. When you get everything for 4 family members you have spent over $60.00 or more. Four dollars to park. Please think of things that would bring more fans to watch the games. Have hot dogs for 1.00 drinks for that price. The way economy is right now people can't afford to go. It would not break the coliseum to do it once in a while. Eventually there will be no one coming.
I know this has nothing to do with what is said but please change some of the songs.
Go back to the old ones from last year and guit repeating them every week. Have a varity.
