* Schrock signing should be announced later this week. The Komets had to out-bid Toledo for him.
* The players who live in town are already skating, which is about the earliest I can remember.
* Supposedly, every free agent wants to go to Fort Wayne, Rapid City, Allen or Missouri, and those four teams are negotiating for every big-time player out there. Right now, everybody is pretty much talking to all the same players.
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Bryan Lewis has been named the CHL's Referee-in-Chief and that Leon Stickle has been named the CHL's Senior Supervisor of Officials.
“We are very excited to have both Bryan and Leon join the CHL staff,” said Jim Wiley, CHL Director of Hockey Operations. “They represent the top minds in officiating at any level and their background and experience add a wealth of credibility and insight to our young officials.”
The Komets announced Wednesday that veteran goaltender Nick Boucher has agreed to terms for the upcoming 2011-12 season. Boucher will be starting his fifth consecutive season with the Komets when the puck drops in October. Boucher backstopped the Komets to three straight International Hockey League Turner Cup Championships in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10. The netminder snagged the IHL Goaltender of the Year Award for 2008-09 and was voted by his teammates as the Komets' Most Valuable Player that year.
One of the cornerstones of the Komets turns 90 today. He's definitely a big reason why the team is celebrating its 60th anniversary this season.
An extended interview with Central Hockey League Commissioner Duane Lewis highlights an all new Episode of Puska on Pucks, The Original Internet Hockey Show.
Join host Denis J. Puska as he speaks with Lewis regarding plenty of positive news in the league including increase attendance during the 2010-2011 season and call-ups to the American Hockey League. Lewis will also discuss the positive future of the CHL with the hope of further expansion.
