Tailing the Komets

And another thing

The Komets have 27 games remaining, including 17 at home. They play consecutive road games only twice the rest of the way.

Since I'm lazy - Blake can you tell us what the CHL team records are since December 22? The Komets are 11-3-4 or 26 points out of 36. How does that stack up against the rest of the league? I'd imagine that Allen is the only team ahead of us?

Well, if the games are on Friday nights it doesn't matter if we play them at home or not....I believe it is 0-5-1 for the year on Friday night home games and like 1-8-1 total.

Wow....great stuff Blake.

That would give us the most points, and 2nd best record if you give Allen the knod with having one more win than us, but we have 3 more OTLs.

Great turn-around.

Guys like Lardner, Apod, Molle, Chaulk have to be given alot of credit for this turn-around. They have been key in getting the ship in the right direction.

This team is looking for real now.

Look-out CHL.

Maybe we can beat QC now?

Thanks Blake. That's 5 weeks worth of games and we're right there with the top team in the league. Take a look at the standings even with our horrible start. There's only three teams at .600 or better. We're right there with anyone in this league. Just get into the playoffs and this may be the most satisfying year yet.

And judging by the games we've played against the other conference I say the Turner is better.

Still amazing a first place team has given up more goals than they have scored.

Snuff: I assume that means their wins are relatively close but their losses are lopsided? When they tank, they tank in style? Is that indicative of a spotty defense or what?

It will be interesting if they can continue to have numbers like that and still hold the lead.
The 1960 World series was won by the Pirates who were outscored by some absurd number like 30 runs over the 7 games because they won close but lost in blowouts. I can't see a team being able to do that over a long season though.

This was an extremely satisfying weekend for the Fort Wayne Komets and their fans. Getting two out of three wins would have been a successful road trip. Capturing all three speaks to the dedication of this team.

The players who have been brought in are heavy, heavy, contributors. Chaulk, Lardner, Lapointe, ( all "older" players ) sprinkled in with Podshendialov, Molle, and now Ratchuk have blended in beautifully with the holdovers. The combination of youth and experience seems to fit well in more areas than just the obvious ones.

Soon Warner and Thomas will be back. Tough decisions will have to be made. I am glad to see Patrosso doing so well. I knew he was a good, skilled player and, over the last ten games or so, his talent is really beginning to blossom. I've always said that Colin Chaulk always makes everyone on the ice better.

Probably the fiercest rivalry was with Toledo ( no matter what their nickname at the time was ). Rivalries beyond that probably have a lot to do with your age, the league they were in, the era, proximity, and opposing players that you loved to hate.

Keep watching the "lost" column. I agree with those who have noticed the goals for and goals against column. There are a few teams who have remarkable records considering that they have given up more goals than they have scored or scored only a handful of goals more than they have given up. They have won the "close" games and successful teams do exactly that.

Finally for those who may be cheering for the winter storm to hit and hit hard; this forcast reminds me of the one for the "blizzard of 78". Believe me, there was nothing fun about that storm. The city was shut down. Some people were left without power or the means of going anywhere, some died of heart attacks and others who needed medical help or even prescription drugs had no way to receive them. The city couldn't handle the snow removal and it took more equipment than the city had in order to remove the snow. Hospital routes were done first, then the main highways, then the main arteries, then in a few days some residential side streets were done. There was no place to put the snow so it was trucked to parks and the rivers. Then as the spring approached, the city flooded because of the spring melt. I guess one positive about the storm was the fact that "neighbors" came closer as each depended on the other.

Have to cut someone to bring Warner back. You know he won't be on the cut list. As great as he is, the team is winning without him somehow. Plus, everyone's +/- seems to be going up coincidentally.

In other news, I'm really impressed with how the Komets are playing on the road. Last night's game was a blast to listen to in the third period. Is Ratchuk expected to stay awhile, or get called back up quickly? He sounds solid and I look forward to seeing him play in person.

I remember '78 and there were fun things about it. Like school being closed, sledding, and being able to make snow houses just by digging into the sides of drifts. But no, it isn't all fun and games. Thank goodness we have good weather forecasts now so people can know bad weather is on the way several days before and make the appropriate preparations in advance for most eventualities.
