deja-vu-ii1 from Dave Longsworth, this time from the start of the 1992-93 season when the Komets started out 2-7, and Al Sims said at the time, ``By the time this season is over, no one will remember this start.'' He was right.

poor dave van druen.. being a former player and having some decent knowledge of the game, i can just about gurantee you dvd knew what was coming. mac let him know at the face-off it was coming, thats why dvd's team mate skated out of the way. a really good guess is dvd was talking smack and couldnt back it up. 22 games for that incident is way to many . the league is looking at the whole situation, and the way the game was played , and unfortunately mac made it easy for the league to show the upper hand . basically the league made its statement, its not going to tolerate these type situations. not saying mac was right or wrong, but i do understand what went on. its very unfortunate dvd had the injuries he incurred, but its also unfortunate a former fan favorite here might have the rest of his career jeporadized by the incident. very very unfortunate for all involved
The 1992-1993 team was in my opinion, one of the best teams from the '90s. If I remember correctly, they finished the season on a 27-2-1 streak, including the 12-0 playoff run. Besides the record, this was a FUN team to watch every night. I think I took in about 65-70 games that year, home and away.
its really interesting if you look back at san diegos roster and also other rosters in the ihl during this time period. there were alot of future and ex-nhl players on these squads and for the komets to do what they did was an incredible feat . great time to re-play this interview with all the negative bloggers out there. it amuses me how many people question al sims coaching. he has won 4 championships here, and he played four seasons along side one of the greatest players to play the game (bobby orr). i really think he has a great understanding of the game. the komets are going to be fine, al will make the adjustments. im sure there are several roster changes yet to come. it happens every year. i bet possibly 4-5 players will not be on the roster by christmas.
Hi Brian.
I don't think anyone questions the coaching ability of Al Sims. ( at least I don't). I think most fans are a little upset that for whatever reason the K's have only scored three goals in three games. I believe there is a little frustration starting to show itself from the fans (bloggers). I guess I don't blame them.
When one thinks about it the K's missed three glorious chances against Rapid City, missed a penalty shot against Arizona, and have managed just the three goals. To be honest with you my take on it is that the K's really need another true center, one with skill who can distribute the puck as well as score.
Add to it the rediculous schedule of just one home game in October, the outright thrashing from Rapid City ( which I'm sure no one would've seen coming) and you have a fan base hungry for goals and games to watch.
You're quite correct when you post about changes to the Komet's roster. I did a little homework three years ago and found that an average of a 26% roster change from opening night to the playoffs is average. I see no reason to think that this year will be any different. Considering that Columbus will send players here now and again only reinforces my opinion. ( I will say I'm a little disappointed with the fact that the Blue Jackets thought they might send two players from their system to the K's by opening night and no one has shown up at all).
Anyway, earlier in another thread, you had posted something to the effect you had played the game and knew so much more about everything that I thought I'd just respond.
There are those on here who think everything that is not a rah! rah! post is just negative. A few are ( and we know who they are by their consistent posts over time), but I hope you also recognize those who are stating opinions in an honest manner when they sense something bad or good.
Brian, continue to help us with your knowledge. I will read with interest that what you post. Remember though that if I disagree with you I will state in an honest manner the reasons for my belief.
By the way the 92-93 team was very special. My favorite team, however, was the 72-73 team.
Alan..I don't think much about someone disagreeing with my opinion. I think difference of opinion is great for the blog. I'm a hockey nut and just love to read about the game and listen to peoples thoughts on the komets and the sport its self. I don't think questioning the direction of the team or a difference of opinion is a negative at all. Its just a few bloggers on here make the blog not fun and just use it to constantly slam the k's, the frankes, and the league.
Amen Brian.
