Ed Campbell just told me he intends to sign with Danbury this week. Danbury is two hours from his South Boston home, and his wife Shannon, whom he married this summer, has a job and would not be able to travel to Fort Wayne with him. She's from Portage, Mich.
"If she was in Kalamazoo, I'd be in Fort Wayne in a heartbeat,'' he said. "The Frankes were great about it and told me they'd fly her out every couple of weeks, but this way I can come home after practices and games and stuff.''
Campbell said proximity was the only issue with deciding to play with the Trashers.
"When you get married, you make a commitment, and I've been away from her pretty much for the last two years,'' he said. "I would have loved to come there and play. My time there was awesome, second to none.''
Campbell said he also talked with Motor City, Muskegon and Kalamazoo.

So we lose out on another one? So whats our backup plan now? Great pick up for Danbury.
That sucks...
Figures proximity wins out in this one..
see ya on Jan 8th in Fort Wayne Soupy
Was this the other move that you (Blake) figured was slightly better than a 50% chance of happening? Just checking to see if there was something else and this came out of nowhere.
So this was what all of the excitement on the Blog was last night? Wow, big let down. I was seeing visions of DA Beauregard in front of the net actually putting in chip shots, as if any of us has seen that sort of thing the last two years for the Komets. If the Franke's don't hurry up and add some scoring weapons to this team, we are going to continue to be cellar dwellers the rest of the year. I am actually starting to get mad about this team. I hate losing.
By the way, why do I enter my message at a certain time and it says something totally different. Current time on this message is: 5:34pm 12-6-05.
Well, that's depressing. That really would've been a great add.
So what now? Are we gonna have to go back to the trades option? I don't know if I can stand another one of our star players getting traded.
I don't know what to tell you on the time. Don't kid yourself, Campbell would have been a lot better than Beauregard. We're talking AHL regular with more than 600 games at that level vs. UHL regular. Last night when I talked to Campbell... well you can read his quotes. I still wouldn't be shocked if he ends up here again someday. From talking to him today, he didn't want to disappoint all the people here, either. I think you have to give the Frankes credit for swinging for the fences on this one. They really tried to reach for something great and almost pulled it off.
Seriously, stop making a big deal out of things. "Ooo, big news coming." Then it's like nothin'. An internet hall of fame? Ed Cambell? Overhyped journalism.
I think we need another Kotyluk-Hukalo trade
where we send a proven goal scorer to a team
for a guy who needs a totally open net to score. Talk about getting hosed in a trade............ David B was the spark the Komets needed when he came back the last time. I don't know if this cyber talk or if there is a chance we could get him back.

It was a great effort by the Frankes. Nice try guys.
I have heard the words uttered "savior" and "getting Campbell would give us potentially the best core in the league"? What? Campbell would of helped but he is far from a savior and we still have the same group on defense with or without him. Adding Campbell doesn't add quickness, toughness, and better positioning to the rest of the group. Helps, yes. Mesiah....no.
I seriously doubt Beauregard would be dealt to us for what we have left here. He will not drop out of the sky to us either. But getting this type of player or any player who has a scoring niche would allow the K's to apply MORE offensive heat on the opposition and keep the puck in our end more. Which is about the only way, right now, you can keep the other teams off the scoreboard.
Keep snooping Blake. Right or wrong...I like the insight. Sounds like he would of came here if he didn't have wife's career to deal with.
Everyone seems to point out that our defense if the main problem. Has anyone though about how bad our forwards are at passing and controlling the puck? Our forwards really put our defensemen in bad situations a lot of times because we don't complete passes through the neutral zone and we turn the puck over. This causes the opposing team to catch our defensemen out of position a lot and that creates scoring chances. Also, I've noticed that we don't hit our players in stride hardly at all with passes. It seems like our guys are standing a lot out there when receiving the puck and you can't do that with the new rules. We still haven't adapted to the new rules because Puhalski wants to use the same systems that have worked before. They used to work great but now you can't clutch and grab so we must adjust to compete with the top teams.
I agree with you totally, JC. Whatever happened to the basics of hockey... passing, shooting, puck control, fighting for the puck along the boards, CREATIVITY, etc??? Seems to be missing, doesn't it?
Ron,
Considering our BEST PLAYER on the ice is Hukalo these days, I'm sure happy he's with us. Granted, both players helped us in ways, but Hukalo has a much better attitude and hustles game in and game out.
Our offense certainly does no favors for the defense. On the flip side the defense does no favors for the offense. Basics of the game are basics for a reason. Until we start using them we are basically going to lose. One guy, be it DAB or Campbell or whoever, is not going to make a difference until all the other players start doing what they are supposed to do. Neumeier is a tall Igor Malykhin and Guy gets more useless minors than a frat boy. Puhalski must adapt to the new rules and force people to play basic hockey. We don't have anybody that we can afford to give up and get equal value for. Unless Beauretard decides to do some charity work the players we have will be the ones we finish the year with.
Did everyone see that we have Kelly Miller back?
Seen that. Was a hard working player when he was here. Nothing to really get excited about. Another finger to plug the dam with really.
He is only filling in. Don't go out and buy your Miller jersey yet.
