This will probably be the last chance for Matt to impress the higher levels of hockey. Really at 25 he is probably already too old but a great year as a first line center might at least get him a few years of an AHL paycheck. I'd love to see him back but if a higher league comes calling that would be great for him.

Steve, as I posted on "Some Updates", I'm wondering if the K's are stopping at three veterans in order to have enough money to entice Curadeau and Syro to sign. The money that would've gone to Chaulk could help as the K's try to budget their cap money vs.the bidding war for these two guys.

3 Vets... Interesting. I'd think that having 4 for the purposes of leadership and maturity would be a benifit. Although, if you don't have a bunch of punk knucklehead rookies it might not matter.
Since when did we start worrying about the stupid salary cap, anyways? :-)

On the vets...I have a bad feeling several teams across minor league hockey will fold during the season. Even if those leagues have dispersal drafts there are going to be some high priced and talented vets floating out there. So maybe keeping a vet spot open isn't such a bad thing. Anything they do to get a younger team I am in favor of.

Some of the top of the bottom teams are already gone.. Flint, PH... I guess there is always Dayton to put on the death list.. Along with that expirement in Johnstown and Wheeling.. Who else is going to go belly up in AA hockey?

JR, there are a number of markets all across hockey hanging on by a string so it isn't a stretch.
JM it may not just be at the AA level. But there are some new teams in places like Greenville where hockey has failed before. You just never know what might happen.
Like I said, just a gut feeling based on economics and other factors.
This is something I hope I am wrong on because it doesn't do hockey at any level any good for teams to fail. Let's face it, without help Flint and Dayton would not have made it through last season but help is not always available.
Port Huron should still have a team. The ownership put a good product on the ice and while they didn't draw all that well night in and night out, they had a growing fan base. Politics screwed it up as politicians are known to do.
