Tailing the Komets

Frankie comes to terms

The Komets announced Monday that defenseman Frankie DeAngelis has been added to the Fort Wayne defensive corps for 2010-11.

DeAngelis, 25, led Fort Wayne defensemen with 32 assists and ranked second among Komet blueliners with 41 points in 76 games last season. DeAngelis topped IHL defensmen with a plus-31 and three game-winning tallies and was named the Komets' Most Improved Player for the year. DeAngelis, named IHL Rookie of the Week on two occasions last season, earned a spot on the 2009-10 IHL All-Rookie Team. DeAngelis appeared in all 12 playoff games scoring three assists and accumulating six penalty minutes while earning the 2010 IHL Turner Cup Championship.

The Woodbridge, Ontario native skated three seasons with teammate Keith Rodger at American International from 2006 to 2009 before making his pro debut last year with Fort Wayne.

Frankie is a great blueline threat. We should STOP signing defensemen now! :-)

I agree, great signing, he is our most skilled D-Man.

And I agree, stop signing D-Men here.....

Let him go to Dayton.

Excellent signing....Frankie plays with heart and hustle. The D-line is looking good for 2010-2011.

I don't really mind BWs if he is healthy and plays hard.
Plus, who else are we gonna complain about this year? LOL

Who are we going to complain about? Lol.. Every season has a punching bag. Andy Townsend, Artie Kiyaga, Christian Bragnalo, BW... Always seems to be a less than physical defenseman. Odd.

Great singing! K's look to have a very solid team so far. I really hope that they do not sign Warner. I can't seem to think of anything that he adds to the team. Blake, can you or anyone on here tell me what they see in Brandon? I'm sure he's a great guy but what does he bring to the table?

Whole-Since you ask! Brandon has a great shot from the point (when he takes it) he can play both forward and defense which is a real asset. He is a pretty good skater. He needs to stay healthy that's for sure. He has always had a great attitude and works hard every game. Those things just off the top of my head.

Having said the above. We do seem to be real heavy on the defense. Several of those guys may have to really work hard in camp to keep their spot.

Did any of you pay attention during the playoffs? Frankie and Brandon were the Komets' best defensive pairing all the way through. They were taking playing time away from other pairings because they earned it. THey are going to need them again in a supposedly faster league. They'll be their top pairing all year this season.

Great... Sebring just put the Varone curse on Warner and DeAngelis.

By the way Blake is promising things in the upcoming season, I'd think BW is already signed and granted a spot on the roster. :-)

Has anyone noticed that Blake and Hit Somebody never post at the same time? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Seriously, you know what I think? I'm thinking that Warner is already signed and it just hasn't been announced. No hard facts here. Just a feeling.

If Warner has signed/does sign, the Komets are loaded on "D" and will have a tough decision or two in camp. Heck, even if he doesn't sign the K's are loaded on the "D" line.

The "general manager" in me screams that I need to sign one more sniper, a legitimate tough guy, and an experienced goaltender. ( Rob Nolan would fit in nicely, wouldn't he?)

Oh, golly!! Wouldn't we have a team then??

(I've never seen Ward play but for some reason I think he's going to be a real nice surprise).

Did any of you pay attention during the regular season? Shots taken from the blueline missing about three feet to the right of the goal, outlet passes to NO ONE, bad positioning allowing him to get skated past time and again, NO physical presence all season, even in the playoffs he was supposedly the hero of (yet somehow he didnt get mvp). I know some of you think he's pretty dreamy, but his poster hanging above your beds should suffice. When you walk right past it without it touching you at all, it'll be just like youre really in the game against him.

Thanks for the reply. I don't doubt that he is a hard worker with a good attitude. We now have offense at the blueline with Guy and Frankie and our balance up front seems pretty solid. We still need to add some size and toughness. I'm not a fan of "goon" hockey but do enjoy the physical style and a good fight or two. If you look at who some of these other teams are signing, we need to have a few heavyweights of our own. Just not seeing a lot of "openings" right now when you look at the guys who, most likely, have a spot on the team.

Hi RunningKomet. Are you enjoying your summer. School's about ready to start again and it doesn't seem possible, does it.

Just wanted to throw a "shout out" to you and let you know that many of us have seen what you described over and over again. Probably the thing that I see as Warner's greatest weakness is the outlet pass. Sometimes I cringe because it seems to always be in front of the net and done with some questionable judgement.

I'm not the only one who has noticed this, I'm sure.

I will say that to be honest and fair, I thought his play during the playoffs was solid.

RunningKomet

Alan, the summer has flown by and it doesn't seem fair how quickly summer goes compaired to how long February alone tends to drag.

I agree, his playoff performances were not bad for the most part. Granted, with the new playoff format, the regular season doesn't matter anymore. However, the amount of frustration brought by Warner all season (when he isn't too hurt to play) cannot be overshadowed in my head by the few decent games he has at the end of the year. Is he really playing great, or does it just look great because we are used to how much he messes up all season?

If you take the amount of good games he has, divided by what we see a lot of the time, the percentage is nowhere near P.C.'s 70%.

Warner seems like a nice enough guy and I enjoy listening to him when he's on the radio on Tuesdays, but I just dont buy into his greatness. A sub-par forward plus a sub-par defenseman does not equal one great player. I'd like his money to go to securing a great second goalie (I refuse to think of Nolan as a backup to Boucher) or, as Alan has said, a sniper. Some muscle would be good too.

From what you posted earlier, Alan, you only sit one section over from my seats. Strange coincidence. I never knew.

Can we knock off the comments about PC's percentage thing? It is a very dead horse, well beaten. Let's move on people. It was taken way out of context and there are a lot more interesting things waiting for this next season.

Actually when you multiply it by the number of days the moon is in it's second phase and divide that by the number of days in a leap year in the 21st century, I believe you will find the percentage to come to rest at 71.625%.

the bloggers on here obviously dont know much about hockey.. first of all, brandon warner has won 5 championships. some players , even great players , go an entire career without a championship. he is a proven winner! second , he is homegrown talent and he DOES draw people to the arena. third, he is a very skilled, smart hockey player with a great shot. how soon you all forget, 2 seasons ago he was very close to joining an ahl team. he can play forward and defense, a task not easily done on the pro level. if not for major surgery, this kid would probably not be here anyway. last year was still a recovery year and a year to feel comfortable again trusting his hip. good luck this year brandon , hopefully helping and contributing to another championship. wont be long before you run out of fingers for those championship rings!

I thought I'd let everyone know that Scott Sproat and I have played telephone tag this morning. He was kind enough to leave a message so I thought I'd pass it on.

He thanked me for my suggestion, and explained that there were some logistical problems to bring the other cup to Fort Wayne. He also said that they have to careful not to make our Opening Night a Rapid City celebration. That said, he also let me know that they would consider my suggestion along with about "six" other ideas they were working on ( a couple of them were not too unlike mine).

I think the important thing is that the K's realize this is a unique moment in their history. They want to acknowledge it in some way but haven't quite come up with the proper way to do it as yet.

For the record, I left a message back to Scott thanking him for calling me back, letting him know that I appreciated his attention to my suggestion, and to tell him that I had every confidence that the K's would handle it in the best way possible.

He also mentioned that they also welcomed suggestions from their fans.

So.......that got me to thinking that maybe Hit should call and offer his suggestion of a brawl and beatdown on the Rapid City Rush as a welcome to Fort Wayne.

After all, "have we grown soft or what?" ( Hit's words from a few days ago.)
