Two questions:
1. How darn good is Rob Nolan for Flint? Komets should have had seven goals tonight, but he just kept robbing them. That kid is amazing. This could have been another 10-1 game very, very easily, but he was a one-man team in his own end.
2. How darn good is Tim Haun right now? He is a rock in the nets. He reminds me of Kevin Reiter a few years ago when he was on his hot streak, or Bruce Racine the way he is projecting calm out there. Tim just makes the really good saves look so routine because he's so under control. I think he's giving his teammates a lot of confidence.
That said, how right was I about calling this a potential trap game? Komets better figure out why they struggle so much early in the first game of the week and do something about it. They had tons of scoring chances, but they gave up quite a few, too. If you had not looked at the scoreboard, this might have been a game where you thought the opponents had a much better chance to win from the flow of the game on the ice. If the Komets play like that the rest of the weekend, they could lose one or two games.
One of these days, all those minor penalties by the veterans is going to kill them in a game. They MUST find a way to be more disciplined. It's not the younger players who are getting them in trouble with that, either like you might expect.
Comments
Blake, or anyone else: Do you think the vets are committing all of these penalties because of lack of discipline or because they are having troubles keeping up with the younger kids? Or a combination of both? I guess I just find it hard to believe with all of the experience our vets have that this would be a discipline issue.
A friend of mine who couldn't make the game tonight texted me that it sounded like a "boring" game on the radio and that Bob Chase said how the crowd was falling asleep. That text came at the start of the 3rd period, before the game really got started. Just great timing.
Dwight Freeney or Reggie Wayne jersey???????/Jake Owen is GOOD/How was the Rodger fight?/ GO KOMETS + GO COLTS=WIN, WIN, WIN.
mightbite-Dwight Freeney++++Frozen Water--I think a little bit of both. Not a good answer but that's what I think.
It was a kind of a boring game except for Rob Nolan. He absolutely carried Flint. He made some unbelieveable saves. NHL type saves. We took over in the 3rd. period.
Rodger really took it to his guy. Gave him a real lesson. That kid can fight.
One more oppinion. The referee (Suhy) last night should not be in the IHL. That's as far as I am going to go here. They all totally missed the elbow that started the fight. They total missed at least a half dozen offsides. Some by as much as 3 feet.
does anyone know if Nolan and Schrock played together at some point? Schrock seemed to be giving it to Nolan after he scored and then the rest of the night.. Didn't know if it was playing around or razzing him!!
Does anyone know what happened to Chewy last night when he was injured? It looked about like he had blown out his knee and was in extreme pain when he had to be helped off of the ice. The next period though he was back out skating normally again.
Scarecrow--He pulled something in his lower back. Playing kept it from stiffning up. He went numb at first on the ice. Today maybe a different story.
What's wrong with Bertram's gloves?
jungle nothings wrong wit bertrams gloves he was some wht smart not 2 drop them cuz the other guy wouldnt have gotten anything so we would be down a man and then he probbley would have gotten a game anyway.
Forzen Water, the problem I have with the penalties are that they are all "stick" penalties. That is slashing, tripping, hooking, etc. For most players that means that they either got "beat" on the play or they were not in the correct position to begin with. Chaulk gets a lot of penalties because he has always got his hockey stick up trying to slow down an opponent. Just for fun, check out his penalties when you get a chance.....the game was a "snoozer" for a while. Syro scored and brought the crowd back into it but Flint just took over the game. Flint had a lot of power plays and they dominated for awhile when comparing "shots on goal." I was impressed with Flint as they had been shut out for three straight games coming into last night, but they never gave up.....Tim Haun was obviously the star of the game but I think everyone should recognize Chewy for the game he played. Playing on the penalty kill he almost scored twice on the same chance as he hustled, worked hard, and didn't give up. After being helped off the ice, ( I figured he wouldn't be able to come back as he hit the end boards real awkwardly ), he came back to start the third period, skated hard, and gave a perfect pass to Shrock who buried it.....Dcshebig was right. The referee missed a viscious elbow that started the melee. Bertram came in to protect his teammate.....JungleMonkey, you asked "whats wrong with Bertrams gloves?" The problem with his gloves is he doesn't take them off, if you know what I mean. Give him credit though, he didn't hesitate. He came to the aid of his teammate immediately.
Haven't heard about the Komets asking the league for a review but it wouldn't surprise me.
Chewy told me he expected to be pretty sore today. He got the wind knocked out of him right away and was trying to raise his legs to help with that.
I think part of the problem with the "snoozers'' early on is the defensive style the Komets are playing, which they must. Let's face it, it's what they are very good at. That's likely not going to change.
The penalties depends on whom you are talking about. Some of the vets are among the best skaters on the team, and they are simply undisciplined. That needs worked on. I also think Suhy was reffing the scoreboard some last night.
I think you can also see some definite improvement in the Komets' recent conditioning.
hey is mitch woods playing sundays game?
At the Blue Jackets Blackhawks game in my komet jersey, everyone knows the komets!
Not until the 29th at the earliest.
That's cool isn't it Burgee? A couple of years ago I was at a Predators game wearing a Komets cap and got tons of comments.
Hand sore from hi fiving people around the arena during first intermission including a rockford icehog fan
high-five =Rick Nash GOALS/Thanks Dennis for chosing the jersey I'm wearing/bloomy brought in a AHL guy for tonight=Peluso
Nash close to hat trick, most of the goals at my end today toews scores again
11th goal, what a game
thanks!
I wasn't bored. The game had good goaltending and guys skating hard. I saw it as a good hockey game.
Rodger is one of those guys, you tick him off, and you are deadmeat. I like that about him.
Syro got robbed by Nolan at least 5 times last night. Syro has a great way at creating space for himself in front of the net and sniping. He is our best goal-scorer bar-none.
I will give Berty some credit for last night, I saw him efforting and skating hard. He played well.
Mironovic and Phillips, to me, are the best defensive line in the IHL. They are solid as a rock. They play just physical enough, and they protect the defensive zone soundly. Fun duo to watch. I guess that is why I find last nights game being interesting. I try to focus on the good things....and there were lots of those.
Not starting a goalie controversey, because Boucher is a great goalie for us, but Tim Haun is the man right now. He looks great. I can see him being our goalie for the next 3-5 years if he keeps this up.
Go Komets!!!
I agree with you, Hit. I can't honestly say I'm one who tends to notice the defensive aspects as much, but last night I noticed myself talking to those around me on more than one occasion about how improved I thought Danko is this year in all aspects of his game, not the least of which being his skating. Normally I'm one who wants to see tons of scoring or else I'm bored, but I didn't really feel bored last night. I thought it was a good game.
Nolan definitely is a beast in the net and he would be even more scary if he had more on the ice around him. Schrock talking crap to him all night was fun to watch also. Add on to that the scoring in the 3rd, along with Rodger unleashing his fists of fury, and I couldn't really complain about anything as far as the play went. A LOT of those in the sections around me were giving it to the refs pretty thick during the game last night though.
Hopefully the K's can keep the fires lit for the rest of the weekend. GO KOMETS!!!!!
I was looking at yahoo and this pretty goal was one of the headlines:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Defense-is-hard-to-come-by-in-the-ECHL?urn=nhl,214020
I haven't seen it posted so I didn't know if anyone has seen it yet.
so do we not get to listen to the komets tonight???....Dont get me wrong..I want to listen to the colts...but I can listen to my TV...
Komets radio is on ESPN radio, 1380 AM I think.
Flint has scored 2 in the 1st period against QC tonight.
Good for them, especially since it wasn't against us.
OK, speaking of defensemen, I just had to come on and brag about my son....he's a plus 5 in his season so far....okay it's only 1st game in, started back up today, but he had one heck of a game today!! Started a new division, as a Squirt, and is tearing it up with his new team. Great bunch of kids on this one too, along with great coaches! We are so lucky again! I love this game....
GO COLTS!!!!!!!
Colts win! Colts win! Komets win! Komets win!
Komets were very good tonight. Schrocky is lighting things up right now....all most everyone who played tonight got a point.....Warner +4 tonight.
Rodger did not play tonight. Anyone know why?
Time to put balboa on the IR a and keep his rookie status for next year.
