Tailing the Komets

Hang on a second

Two hours after the game, Zachary Blazic is still ignoring penalty calls that happen right in front of him that he is looking directly at. Talk about having blinders on. This game definitely deserved a better effort from him. He was doing everything he could to not be a part of the decision, and in fact that ended up being a big deciding part of the game.

Not calling the two penalties in overtime was a joke. Smith pulled down from behind and Bennefiled hit in the head. Komets should have won with those two penalties.

He is top of the list for being a poor ref before this game. He has now cemented his #1 position!

My biggest problem last night with officiating was inconsistency. He started out giving everything to Texas, then decided that was being too one-sided so started doling everything out our way. In the third, when Henley wrapped a guy up and threw him to the ice, he called 'Tripping'. There was no tripping about it, no where near it. At most, it could have been an Interference call, but even that is pushing it. After the kill, nearly the same *exact* thing happened to Chaulk and there was no call. He went from calling ticky-tack to letting them play--very frustrating.

The linesmen were also inconsistent. One called an offsides when the puck got caught at the blue-line by a Ks player (who was also onsides), and later when a similar thing happened to Texas, waved it.

KW is right, there were several questionable no-calls to the Ks in the OT.

Even still, I think this game shows the difference between last year's team and this year's team. Last year's would have rolled over and died, this year's fought back. The last five minutes and the OT felt like a playoff game, very intense.

Anyone else think Boucher had a bit of an off night? He looked shaky in the shoot-out and I think he let in three goals on three shots (14, 15, and 16) -> during the PPs. And 4 goals off 25 shots is uncharacteristic for him.

That had to be one of the worst refs I've seen in a while. Very inconsistent. He missed a lot of calls on both sides, which probably did determine the outcome of the game.

Yes, Bouch definitely had a bad night. He was terrible in the shoot out and everyone in the stands knew we weren't going to get much by Silverthorn, especially with all the shots right to his chest. I would have thought the boys would have figured him out by then. However, I was pleased with the way the guys fought back in the third to tie the game. Never giving up. Can't complain about that. I'll take the point!

Does the word "shootout" translate to "put it in the goalie's chest" in Russian?

You and I have had this discussion many times, Blake. Usually we see this in the playoffs. I've always maintained if it's a penalty in January it's a penalty in May. I honestly don't understand how an official doing his job can impact the game. It is the player who committed the infraction; therefore it is the player who has taken the responsibility for possibly affecting the outcome.

Unless the player hasn't committed that offense and the ref is incompetent. I submit exhibit A: Henley grabs a guy along the boards. Guy falls down. Henley is called for tripping. Huh? Zach Blazic knew exactly what he was (or wasn't) doing last night. When someone gets pulled down and gets nothing, but someone else goes after a puck and is called for tripping, the ref needs to examine his skills. Zach Blazic is the worst ref the CHL has.

what would be wrong with refs betting on hockey games they officiate, if there is no way they can impact it.

Dang! Hunt made our point better than I did...

Yeah, as if you could find a place to bet on a CHL game that would give you any decent odds. Or any odds.
