The Komets whipped Roanoke 6-0. Playing with seven forwards and four defensemen, Roanoke never had a chance. The Komets looked sharp right from the opening faceoff as some new lines looked like they'd been together all season.
It kind of reminded me of the Komets/oldtimers vs. the Fire Department team this summer. The Komets had about double the talent on the ice, even though the Vipers played hard all night. They just didn't have enough manpower. As soon as the Komets got to 3-0, you could tell the Vipers just wanted to get the game over with and start the bus ride home.
If Michael Wiggins had played this hard when he was a Komet, he'd be leading the league in scoring. He was all over the place, though he did get knocked on his can a few times. He was easily Roanoke's best player.
The Komets are bringing in two new players on Monday. Defenseman John Jarram was acquired in a trade from Elmira for future considerations. They are also bringing in forward Garrett Summerfield who recently finished his eligibility for UMass-Amherst. He doesn't have great stats, but he's supposed to be an energy guy. The Komets just need another rookie.
Some more notes about the game:
* For the second time this season, the the Komets drew more than 10,000 fans on Saturday night. Since the Memorial Coliseum renovation was completed in 2002, the Komets have gone 11-1-1 when playing before crowds of 10,000 or more and have won six in a row.
* The Komets have killed off 23 consecutive power plays against.
* Saturday's shutout was the 16th of Kevin St. Pierre's career in the United Hockey League, breaking the record he held with Muskegon's Joe Dimaline. It was also his 13th as a Komet, which is one behind Robbie Irons' record of 14.

Two words: consistently inconsistent.
On Tuesday: played desperate and had terrible passing.
On Friday: played desperate and had terrible passing and couldn't clear the zone to save our lives.
On Saturday: played with HEART and had decent passing, lots of scoring, cleared the zone effectively, and had PKs that looked like PPs.

also i read somewhere where virag has lost some weight and is skating faster, looks like the wake up call did him some good as well.
it was a great crowd, always enjoy the 10,000 plus crowds. as for the people in front of us at the game, hope you didn't lose your hearing, we went a little nuts with the horn blowers.
Congrats to frenchy, he should have already had the record a couple of times this season. Me and J-Man were discussing during the game when it looked as though it would be a shut out that it might be possible a junk goal would roll in and there were a couple of times that could have happened, glad it didn't. frenchy deserves the record and in my book he's had it for a while now.
Blake, how long do you think smith was working on the europeon thing, this is something that just doesn't happen out of the blue or overnight.

It sure was fun to be part of that 10,000 plus last night.A couple of those Komets could have their own prime time show.They know how to be entertaining.And they understand that they have a part in the show,and when they hit the ice no matter what they do its all jus pure entertainment...HE SHOOTS HE SCORES!!!!!

Speaking of Saturday night's game...how about that hit that Guinn had early in the game? Maybe he's been reading all the negative comments about him on this blog. Now maybe some of you will get off of his case!
I think if Guinn was consistently hitting people it wouldn't be a problem. The fact that he hits a guy once out of ever 3 games is the problem.
A-men JC. Rob Guinn plays weak. He's our ALL-Star nominee for defense. That is sad. They must want defenders that will let up lots of goals. Can anyone believe Jorde got called up to the AHL? Good Riddens! He played with no spirit, no hustle, and no stones. The AHL scouts must be retarded. Andy Townsend played better "D" than that clown.
The line combinations looked pretty good Saturday. Hope he decides to stick with them.
Any news out there on Jason Kean coming back? What the heck is taking so long? Is he the player to be named later on the recent Defensemen Trade with Elmira?
Kelly Miller is definitely a keeper. He makes exciting plays as displayed Saturday. Has the team decided to sign him for the rest of the year?

Hey Teresa, I'm glad somebody else thought Guinn played well Saturday! I thought I was the only one around here sticking up for the guy! LOL I don't care what anyone else says. I think he deserves the All-Star spot. At least he's fairly consistent in his playing and doesn't cause as many puck turn-overs as other players on the team. Go Guinny!
Justin Cohn reported it on his blog. He was called up to Grand Rapids and is supposed to be there for 3 games or so. Should of seen all the Jorde Romantics slobbering all over themselves because, wow, he must be a great player because he got called up. The rest of us who know Hockey and actually watch the games closely must be stupid because we call it the way we see it. He did not put any effort onto the ice and made loads of stupid comments in the paper. He built himself up as a tough guy and then made the stupid comment about the UHL being too slow for his fast paced style of play. He is as slow as Andy Townsend was and doesn't play as physical. Is the AHL a girls league or something?
Sorry about the negative comment as referenced in your blog entry today. Just frustrating at times watching this team.
Hey "Hustle"....stop watchin the game thru your beer cup...its distorting your vision. Your probably one of those fans who rips their jersey off and puts it under thier coat (I've actually seen a couple of "fans" do this) and starts ripping the K's when they fall behind; but then puts it back on when they come from behind to take the lead jumping up and down telling everyone in your section how great they are and that you knew they had it in them (again I reference the same "fans" earlier). So keep bitchin and moanin and drink a few more beers.

Well, I just went back and referenced my more recent comments in these blogs and I could only find 2 and they were both in this section were I directed my comments to someone directly. The rest I was just stating my opinion or defending players that I believe need it just like everyone else in here. I'll make an effort to make sure I put it in righting when I agree with these guys. And believe it or not I do quite often like 2nite when I read Hustle's comment on players who leave the K's. So I'm glad your so interested in my comments; but if you go back and really read my comments you'll see that I am giving my opinion just like everyone else.
