Near the end of the first period, Komets defenseman Danko Mironovic was called for interference to give Bloomington a second five-on-three advantage. The PrairieThunder scored to make it 2-1 at the intermission. After watching the replay, here's why referee Scott Hoberg got the call correct. Mironovic was skating stride for stride with the Bloomington player who had already released the puck. Then Mironovic dove at the legs of the Bloomington player to take him out. If he had dove toward the puck he would have been fine. The press box was split on the call for several minutes until original Komet was asked and he said it was definitely interference. That shut everyone up.
Another factor, which you have heard me preach about before, is that Hoberg calls everything and anyone should have known he was going to make that call. He'll make it every time, and it's the players' responsibility to take the official's individual style into account. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me on this, but if you think about it, YOU know how Hoberg calls the game and I'll bet you also would have thought he'd make that call.
Now, is it right that he made the call in the overall aspect of the game? After all, the Komets were just coming off being down two men. That's another discussion entirely. Some refs make that call and some don't. Hoberg will make it every time.

why do the players have to adjust to an official...isn't that making the official bigger than the game itself
Fact of life, Mark. He's never going to change, so the players better.
OK, after watching the last half of the second period and the first half of the third, I take back everything I said previously. Hoberg is calling a completely different game now. I have no clue what he's going to call, so how can the players? Things that were an automatic penalty earlier, are not getting called now.
BTW, Mironovic got the misconduct for twice kicking the puck away from the two linesmen after he was called for a minor.

It goes to the K' consistency which they do not have. Even if Chaulk and Bertram were in the lineup the same was occurring when they were playing. That fact of the matter is how long can Sims and Franke look at the product that is on the ice right now and realize they are not as good as they thought they were. You have got to make some changes at this point primarliary at Defense and in the forward spots. Varone was suppose to be an "aggigtator" of which there has been no part of his game that would suggest he is. An aggigtator is someone who stirs the pot, ie "tyler willis" and Varone is not capable of doing that. They are 5 games above .500 the power play is like 2-18 in the last couple of games Boucher gives up 2 goals last night then turns around and surrenders 6 to a last place team...
They are kind of stuck. Do you look to go out and spend a lot of money on some new players, and then maybe not be able to bring back Curadeau, Chaulk, Bertram, Pence and Laplante later because of cap space? Or do you hold out for those guys because you may think you're not going to be able to find anybody better? It may not do you any good to bring in any more rookies because then you have to start over teaching systems and such. They pretty much have to ride this out and hope everybody can come back. Look at this possibility: Who are you going to get in a possible trade that is going to have a bigger impact than those guys when they come back? No one. Granted, even with Pence and Bertram, you might still need one more defenseman. It's an interesting either/or. Doesn't do anything to help you win games now, though.
The other thing is, as crazy as this season as been so far, they might be only one hot streak away from really making a move up the standings. We're still three games away from the halfway point. And does anybody thing Bloomington misses Don Parsons now?
Even with Bertram and Pence back in the line up the lack a phyiscal defense and what I mean is some one to clear the front of the net, block shots, and protect the netminder. What we have now with all of the with the exception of Bertram are the same no diversity. The fact is they loaded up on Vets and salary to pay them and brought in rookies, look go at the time but now is a big mistake. I agree a trade is more than likely not going to happen in this type of 6 team league that would be an impact, but wishing and hoping that things will change is very risky in a 6 team league when only the top 4 make it. Question if cap is an issue doesn't a player on IR not count against the cap? If it doesn't count then I would say they have some rooms to bring some bodies in and if they play well enough and are worth keeping around then a decision would have to be made at that timie.
Good question. It used to be that you could "save" cap space by sometimes sitting a guy out for a while because the cap was an average of the entire season. Now you can't do that because the rules changed and the cap is measured weekly. That was kind of my point. You could spend some money to bring is someone big, if there was anyone available, but then what do you do with them when those other guys come back? You rob Peter to play Paul, pun intended. Either way, you'd be stuck.
In Cincinnati, they were in a real fix with their goaltending situation, so this past week, they traded one of their verteran defensemen to get one. That got me to thinking about the Komets goaltending surplus. Of course, the only problem with that is that I wouldn't want to see any of our goalies on a rival team, even if there was any interest out there. It would come back to bite us as sure as anything.
