Tailing the Komets

Interesting stat

Over the last five games, the Komets have gotten 12 goals for their skating veterans -- Colin Chaulk, Guy Dupuis, Leo Thomas, P.C. Drouin, Konstantin Shafranov, Kevin Bertram and David Hukalo. They have one from everyone else and that was scored by Matt Syroczynski.

Blake- how many of the shots on goal are legitimate shots of going in? When there is a dumping of the puck by our penalty killers, and it heads towards the goalie, it is counted as a save. Is there a way they can count quality shots on goal? I think the save percentage and number of shots get inflated with this. I can count probably 5 per game that are dump ins by the opposing team that are counted as shots on goal.

Glad the vets are coming on (maybe). I still want to see them perform like this against the top three teams as opposed to Quad City and Bloomington.

Anything that would go in the goal counts as a shot on goal. There's no way you could differentiate in the rules to make it matter where a shot came from. And the goaltenders would tend to disagree with you. They always feel like they make more saves in FW than they get credit for. That's because they don't get any cheapies here. The Komets do it just as much at the other end.

Blake--I hate to correct you. Any puck that would go in the goal would or could be a save. We do not record saves. We record shots on goal. There is a difference. A shot on goal must come from a player to the goal. Not off the glass or the boards. It would have to have gone in from it's own speed. Yes, some clearing passes from one end to the other could be a shop on goal. They may be cheap shots but some of those have gone in.

So if a guy dumps it into the zone and it deflects off the boards funny and goes into the net then it could be a goal without being a SOG???

JR---THAN HE GETS CREDIT FOR A GOAL WHICH WE MUST ALSO SHOW A SHOT ON GOAL. WITHOUT THE SHOT THERE COULD BE NOT GOAL. REMEMBER THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHOTS ON GOAL AND SAVES. WHAT YOU SEE ON THE CLOCK AT THE COLISEUM IS SHOTS ON GOAL. TRUST ME THE GOALTENDERS THING EVERYTHING CLOSE TO THEM IS A SHOT ON GOAL. ABOVE THE NET OR BESIDE THE NET IF IT WOULD NOT HAVE GONE IT IT IS NOT A SHOT ON GOAL. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS. I AM IN A HURRY!

Wendy--I work in caps all day. I didn't even look at what I had typed until I was finished. Than I didn't have time to go back and change it. Just look at my spelling! Give my just a little slack Huh? I was trying to help JR. That's worth something I would hope.
