I think it "SUCKS"! why not call them the "Hayseeds" or the "Handbags" after Vera Bradley? Baseball players would look good in straw hats and handbags, don't you think? If they paid good money to a marketing agency they got screwed. Who ever heard of a mean apple? I can see it now, the batters will be wearing silver pans with a handle for batting helmets. Give me a break!!!! If you really think about it, it all ties together. A ballpark most people didn't want and surely didn't need and now a goofy name to go along with it. Look what the City of Fort Wayne got for $30 plus million!!! You should have ask, sorry.

Noooooooooooooooooooo! And just when "Wizards" had started to grow on me. If they wanted to go with an apple theme, why not something like "The Fort Wayne Bad Apples"? At least that sounds kind of intimidating. Oh well.

I think they pulled a name out of a hat, uhh....a "Tin Cap"
I did learn about Johnny Appleseed in school, but I don't remember anything about him wearing a tin cap.
Someone really dropped the ball on this one. If they wanted to use a local or historical theme they did'nt do their homework. I hope the team does'nt have a bad season, or they'll be known as the rotten apples or worse!

I liked the Mudd Ducks, but I didn't quite get it. As long as they'll continue Dollar Mondays and Thirsty Thursdays, they could call them the Ft. Wayne George Bush's and I'd still go.

Well.... I have eventually gotten to the point where I can say "Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger" without collapsing into gales of hysterical laughter, so I guess the "TinCaps" could grow on me. But right now it just makes me laugh thinking about it. Ask me in a couple years. :) Don't get me wrong, I'll still go to a game or two to get me through the Komets offseason, but I'll probably hang onto my Wizards hat for a while.

I think they made a big mistake on calling them the tincaps!!!! I really liked the wizards but oh well not much of a baseball fan. Hockey is my sport. Yeah I like that Idea about $1 nights maybe the beer should be that price at the coliseum during the hockey games along with hot dogs. Just a thought.
Less then one week till Komet Hockey!

Well, that confirms what I was told earlier. It would be interesting to see what kind of concession deal will be at Parkview Field.
Will they be selling apple cider? LOL! I could'nt resist. Man, the Cubs are struggling again tonight!

a sad day in the fort. once again the fans were not allowed to have input into the name of the baseball team. a pretty weak name that glorifies the folk tales about appleseed and not really the man himself, i dont believe he ever wore a tincap, just a folk tale made up . so now we have a project opposed by the majority, a field named after a non profit health care provider and a team name which the fans had little input into. i had hoped we would have continued the theme of harrison, a former president who saved fort wayne from siege during the war of 1812. i had hoped for something like the little turtles playing their games at kekionga field at harrison square in fort wayne. but now we have three unrelated names.

Blake,
When I first heard it, I thought it was a joke. I guess the joke is on all us taxpayers. With all the controversy about the stadium downtown project, where are we going to park, not being crazy about walking several blocks to my car somewhere downtown at 11:30 pm, they can't start condos because nobody is buying them, the income guarantee for the hotel, I could go on and on, the last thing this team and project needed is a joke of a name and more controversy. They will be called the Potheads by everyone. Did San Diego sign off on this joke? Do they want their players being mocked by every fan on the road and a lot of fans at home too? How much money did the marketing firm get paid to come up with this farce of a name and logo? A group of IPFW Marketing students could have done much better at no cost. I don't think the new stadium is a good idea, but once it passed, it because it has to work. We have too much riding on it now. But this might be another nail in the coffin. We are going to spend $1 million dollars to tear down a still very useful 15-year old stadium right next to Johnny Appleseed Park. DUH? I thought the whole idea was to bring some NEW excitement to the downtown and the entire region so they pick some idiotic name that is supposed to remind us of Johnny Appleseed 200 years ago. My rule is if you pick a name and design a logo and then it has to be explained and the explanation makes it even worse, then you need to throw it out and start over. The more I think about it, the Harrison Squarepants would have been better than this. I'm keeping my Wizards gear. Whether I ever wear it or anything else to the new ball park took a real hit yesterday because I am not even considering attending a game down there at this time. Until yesterday, the biggest mistake the Wizards ever made was not renewing the agreement with the Minnesota Twins. Check how many former Wizards the Twins brought through here and made it to the bigs compared to the Padres. Two that the Twins brought through here even met again at home plate in Chicago on Tuesday night. Now it is the second biggest mistake behind yesterday.

i don think its that bad...look at the other names of the clubs in the midwest league...the loons??? lugnuts??? snappers? we all know what that could be mistaken for. people just dont like change thats all its about. its a different name. i remember when they announced the wizards being the name everybody was in an uproar because fort wayne was supposed to be the city of churches and the wizard theme didnt go with that.

been around blake but have had trouble logging in. i cant believe the tincaps was chosen. the logo looks like something a grade school kid came up with. what an embarasment to our city. now we will be known as the pot heads. theres no way ofgetting around that. the sadest thing about this is the fact we have people with money from atlanta trying to tell us what our heritage is and how we should honor it. john chapman must be turning over in his grave when he heard he was being honored by the name tincap, specially since he never wore any such thing. only in the folk lore of making johnny appleseed accessible to kids thru disney making johnny appleseep a beloved charachter with a tin hat did this come about. as was said before, another nail in the coffin.
