The Komets announced Tuesday the addition of two players to the preseason roster. Netminder Tyler Sims and forward Michael Uvodich have agreed to terms and have been invited to the Komet training camp.
Sims, son of Komet head coach Al Sims, will be entering his second full season as a pro after skating four seasons of NCAA play with Providence College. Tyler Sims appeared in 14 games with the CHL's Mississippi RiverKings last year registering a 9-5-0 record and 2.66 goals-against average. The rookie goalie helped Mississippi win the Northeast Division title and advance to the CHL semi-finals.
Tyler Sims, 23, was born in West Berlin, Germany, while his father played defense for Berlin in the Germany elite league. Tyler Sims arrived in Fort Wayne at the age of three when his father returned to the states to skate his final pro season with the Komets in 1988-89. Prior to the Komet training camp, Tyler Sims will attend the AHL's Chicago Wolves camp.
Uvodich, 22, will be attending the Komets' 2009 training camp as an invitee from the AAHA's Evansville Ice Men. He is the third member of the Ice Men to be invited to the Komet camp. Uvodich skated last year with Evansville scoring 23 goals and 36 points in 32 games.

Sims is a rookie, so that means it will make alot more sense to let either Haun or Boucher walk......I won't say which one it will be, I'd think it is obvious though. It it looks like Sims playes some pretty awesome goal in the CHL last season. It only makes sense to keep the rookie goalie since there is a rookie minimum on the roster limits and the Komets will be toeing the line of too many veterans and not enough rookies. This move might have just saved a guy like Stayzer, Bertram, Shafronov, or even Woods.
Good Move!!!
Only one "it" and it should say played not playes. Sorry, long day at work.
Tyler can play goal. He had a great teacher. It will be tough being the coach's son. It was for Ron Ullyot. Tyler is a great young man. He gave "Killer" Kaminski just what he needed. I followed him last year and he looked good when he was in the game. He could become another "Great" Komet Goaltender. He will be given a honest shot in the Wolves camp, I am sure.
Interesting........I wonder how the other goalies already signed, especially Tim Haun, feel about this signing. Kinda smells like the old "Daddy wants sonny on his team" thing. As long as he earns everythinghe gets and isn't given anything it might work out. If not, I'm sure there are going to be some unhappy campers in regards to this signing later in the year.
I totally overlook that it is Al's son. Totally. This makes more sense due to how the roster shapes up. Plus, Tyler has all ready had a good start to his "AA" hockey career and is a prospect type of player. It makes so much more sense for the Komets to have one veteran goalie and one that isn't, and the one that isn't being a rookie. You have to have rookies on the roster, and this is the way to go. The battle in camp is between Haun and Boucher.
I doubt there is any battle with any of these guys with Boucher........you don't get rid of the goalie of the year and the guy who led this team to two cups in a row.......not for two kids with less than 100 pro games between them.....
