Komets claim defenseman

The Komets announced today that they have claimed defenseman Mike Dombkiewicz off waivers. Dombkiewicz, 27, is in his second season as a pro after starting the year with Emira skating 27 games before being traded to Kalamazoo where he appeared in 21 games before being placed on waivers. Last year Dombkiewicz skated UHL stints with Kansas City, Richmond and Missouri and was selected to the UHL's All-Rookie Team.

I have only one problem with this signing. Will Bob and Robbie be able to pronounce his name? '-)

That's a funny one Tony E. I was wondering, is there anybody going to the Port Huron/Flint games on April 7 & 8? The KBC is going...just wanted see if there will be a large crowd.

Great pick up! I love it. Let's hope he can use his big body to make an impact!!!

A big kudos on this one, he is not the second coming, but at least he will provide depth and a healthy body to the d-core.

You know what, I wonder why he's played for five teams in less than two years.

Way to be positive Blake!

I'm not being positive or negative, just curious. It's a legitimate question.

Nanci I made calls but the hotels need a confirmed number of rooms/people before they will quote a discounted rate.

I was wondering the same thing actually. 8 goals from a defenceman in this league is not bad. The one thing that can be said is that with the exception of the K Wings, it looks like all of the other teams he played for are bottom feeders.

So why would they get rid of him? He was on the all-rookie team last year playing with three teams. He must have some talent, but is there something else?

I have a call in to one of my connections in the OHL. I will see what turns up, if anything about his reputation from his time there.

Being the rookie he was he was probably good trade bait. Sometimes you have to go deeper than the actual stats. He was traded this year to finish a deal between Elmira and Kalamazoo. He's one of the better players from Elmira that could actually fit in up there. It looks as though he got caught in a nubmers game in Kalamazoo because they had to either sit him or Villnef each game.

Wings fans are pretty positive about him. He scored some clutch goals for them this year and is good in the shootout.

I'm very excited by this signing!

Like the pick up. Wether he is a head case or not at this point in the year you cant pass up decent talent that he seems to have. Especially when this team needs some healthy bodies.....

This is the player that WE need to put US over the hump and a true title conetender MAN!

I am not sure this guy puts us over the hump, but he can fil a void that we do have with the defense. I am sure he is no worse than Lindsey which IMO is a weak link for us. Blake I am sure that is a valid question as to why he has moved a lot but who cares at this point. The better question is will we dress 7 defensemen and sit a winger or stick with 6 defensemen and dress an extra winger?

Blake, from what I have heard, sounds like Domber is a head case.... This move puzzles me as the Frankes went on record stating they didn't want to add anyone that could possibly disrupt team chemistry yet they make a move for a guy that has played for 6 different teams in the last year. I know we need a body at this point, but not sure about this one....

My source in the OHL (he scouts talent and helps teams with draft rankings etc) said he was not aware of any problems with him at the OHL level.

Nice pickup for the K's, this should help out on the struggling power play.

Blake is he with the team tonight in Missouri?

Or maybe, team chemistry is so strong right now that they can handle one problem child, too? I've seen that happen in the past.

Remember when they brought in Kevin MacDonald in 1993? In no way am I saying in any fashion that Kevin was a problem child, but it was a shocking move considering he had been a team captain every where else he played and the Komets had an exceptional leadership structure at that time. Scott Gruhl filled that role in 1991.

I kind of have this theory that every team needs one jerk, one player who will get up in people's faces and stir things up. But they only need one, though.

I'm not saying the new guy is any of these things, but it's a legitimate question.

Need bodies, bottom line. Too late to be picky. You gotta take what you can get. I hope he helps, we need help. Why not try something different now. Put AJ Bozoian as a forward and go with the other 6 defensemen with the new guy included. I have always thought maybe AJ would be a better forward anyway. It would give him a better chance at scoring, and another defensive minded forward. Couldn't hurt to try since we are short on forwards.
