While a signing of Henley will certainly make a segment of the fan base happy and by all accounts he is a heck of a nice guy off the ice I don't feel any enthusiasm about signing a 30+ year old guy on a bad knee who was not the most graceful skater pre surgery. Unless the surgery has imrproved his skating which I suppose is possible. All in all this goes against the youth movement that I was hoping to see this team head towards.

The happiest person should be Schrock. That guy had to face some of the toughest in the CHL last year. I was in Rockford when King Kong try to knee the guy by the net and thought I would not root for him again. But without Starenky we need this.

I think this would be a great signing if it happens... The K's would instantly jump in the toughness area... With Henley to take on any willing heavyweights, Schrock, Starenky, Thorne, Molle etc. wouldn't have to worry about lining up for a faceoff against Sgroi or other goons...

Totally agree with with KF26.
Henley was one of our best Dmen when he was here and he will make everyone else play their game without having to worry about dealing with the other team's morans.
For anyone to question his play here before would be totally imaginary in my humble opinion, so I don't see anyone doing it.

Have to disagree with Mr. Snuff about Henley's skating ability because a guy who is 6-7 that can skate and keep his balance like him is a good athlete. He can play a regular shift and "police" the ice. They question that comes up now, if he signs, with two D-men coming in who is let go. Say the blue line is getting a little crowded.

Monkey from a hockey perspective nothing upsets me. Why would it? The choices that make are out of all of our controls. Nothing to get upset over. Do I want another washed up player coming back here? Of course not. Do I want to see a player here who has had incidents of dirty play and losing his cool? No I do not. But "worked up" by it? Things that affect my family or my business are worth getting upset or worked up over. But player moves? None of us get to pick the roster and none of us are going to like every player on the roster at a given time. And I will always cheer for the jersey no matter who is in it.

Sgriffith I think he played his angles well. I think he took up space in the corners and in front of the net well. I will agree with you that he was a step up from a traditional goon. But I do not believe he had the ability 4 years ago to keep up in th IHL and based on what I saw from Evansville this year and the rest of the league last year I certainly don't think he can keepup with this league now. And before anyone else brings it up I know he got shots in the AHL. But not because he could skate.
We'll see.....believe it or not I can see the reasons why they want to bring him in. I apologize if my not wanting to see him here gets anyone worked up.

One last thing... I know some of you don't like the +/- stat but the fact is Henley was a - player during his time here at a time when almost nobody else on those teams were. And considering how much time he spent in the box and contributed nothing to the offense.... the numbers do say something.

If they do bring Henley in, are we looking at a legitimate player who can be useful or another Mirasty? With only 18 players dressed for games, you can ill afford to waste a spot on a goon who can't contribute anything else. But if he can at least be an above average D-man then go get him.

I can respect your opinion and your points of view Mr. Snuff. While his +\- may have not been on the + side, the space he open on the ice to allow certain players more room was his role and his ability too make sure the net was free and clear was a role he did well. When he needed to deal with a player on the opposing team that was getting out of hand, like Sgroi, he did and did it well. Seeing Molle or Schrock having to take on these guys is not necessary if a Henley is on your team. So I look at him as being role player that can play a regular shift and not be liability on the ice.

I know the guy can fight. I know he can be an intimidating presence. I know he isn't Tedstone or even Worlton when it comes to ability to actually play the game. And me saying he is washed up may be harsh. The fact is he hasn't played much hockey these last few years. That can work for him and against him. He hasn't taken the physical pounding but he has had injuries. I am truly concerned if he can skate a regular shift in this league.
One other thing just in case anyone thinks my opinions are meant to be anything more than just opinions... I come from a family of diabetics. I have seen what it can do to my dad when his sugar drops and some of the other health problems it can cause. The fact that Henley has been able to play professional hockey and the fact that he has stepped up to handle the fighting he has during his career is extremely impressive to me. I don't want to be proven wrong too often. Make no mistake, if he is signed, I hope he can skate, score his first goal in several years, be a +10 player and rack up 200 PMs pounding on the other goons in this league. I'll eat crow for all eternity if he can even come close to it.

I think you're really taking a swing and a miss on this one, Snuff. Henley has always been the real deal as far as being tough and being able to play a regular shift. To me, it's a positive that he sat out all of last year to make sure he was ready to go this season. This is a guy who has always taken very good care of himself because he had to.

Strictly looking at him as a player I've never been impressed with his ability to do anything but fight. And I am not a fan of bringing in another 30+ on to this team. But...if I was ever going to pull for someone from a human perspective it would be him.

I think this could be a good signing depending on how Al Sims decides to use him. It was the same with Mirasty, but now he is in the KHL making $200,000+. Al Sims is the one who can dictate how players perform here. All in all, at least the Komets will have somebody who will be able to stand up for the team.

It doesn't matter what a winger or center +/- average is or how many goals he can score if he is sitting in the stands injured because he was gooned or cheap shotted or had to fight someone that he should"nt have had to. The style of play in the league reflects sometimes what kind of players you need on the ice. The only way you will ever have a totally clean game is to get rid of the goons and sign everyone under 175 pounds. In my opinion, that would be boring to say the least. Hockey is and always will be a very physical game. Emotions can run high.
No one was concerned about Steve Fletcher stats when he played. I am glad we had him when we played very physical teams like Indy. Let's be realistic here, these guys can be used for things other than fighting. You don't think other teams were intimidated when Mirasty was out there. I have always said, take the biggest guy you have whether he is a finesse player or not, and stick him in front of that net and see the havoc he can create. Boulregard was one of the best and he did not even have the size as these guys do. Best guy in front of the net I have seen in a long time. You can't win games when your team is taking perimeter shots 90% of the time.
How are you planning on handling Reany when he comes to town, I think with this signing you just improved your odds.
Intimidation can be a very useful tool and other teams play that cardall the time as long as they can get away with it. I remember when teams hated to play here. What happened?
