Great week of hockey for the K's... They did exactly what I thought they needed to do which was sweep the weekend to keep pace with the top teams in the conference.
Check out the boxscore (2nd period) from the Rio Grande Valley/Arizona game... Player leaves bench during fight, coach gets tossed, craziness.... May be a suspension or two from that one....
Bloomington beats a good Allen team at home with ONLY 14 skaters dressed!!!
Looking forward to next weekends games....

I haven't blogged for a while and thought I'd get caught up with my "reading". Lots of stuff to comment on.
First, to Wendy and her contribution a few days ago regarding the song "Cotton Eyed-Joe". After reading her blog I felt that some may have minimized her reflections on the song and its past. All she did, everyone, was to take the time to educate us on it's origination and the various meanings the song held. I am familiar with the tune, of course, but had no idea where the inspiration for writing the song came from. Wendy and I have been at extreme opposites on some things along the way. Still, with that understood, there is no way I would criticize her for trying to bring some facts to the table. So thanks, Wendy. With the background you provided, I'm kinda thinking that the Komet's PA should refrain from playing it. ( Just my opinion, though).
WOWO's miscue of airing the Komets game was certainly amateurish at best. Whether it was a snafu on the part of Federated Media or radio station doesn't matter. It makes me cringe a little to remember how great WOWO once was and then to listen last night to a WOWO producer, barely audible, yelling on the phone line "Your'e on Bob, your'e on Bob", and hear Bob Chase who didn't know he was on, react in a frustrating manner for all to hear. When did we all agree to lessen our standards of quality?
My contempt, and/or frustration, was quickly averted to being concerned for the health of Bob Chase. He didn't sound like himself, and early on, commented that "he would try to get through this". It was alarming to me. Remember that Bob Chase is eighty-something and may be pushing his luck a little with all the road games and such. Nobody wants to push him out the door, and nobody wants a tragedy either. The CHL road schedule isn't like the IHL's. Only Bob Chase and WOWO can make decisions for the broadcasts, but I would err on the side of caution. Last night's broadcast was the first time in all these years that I had a feeling that something may have been wrong with his health. I hope I am wrong. I hope everything is OK. Still, he is what he is, and I hope others are looking out for him.
Some days ago, I blogged that Mele, Thorne, and Schrock have been held without scoring a goal for a combined 29 games. Now the three have been held without a goal for a combined 38 games. In baseball there is a term called the "Mendoza line". It refers to any hitter who has a batting average less than .200. Well, I'm not sure hockey has any equivalent. I am proposing the "Arthur Kiyaga line". That would be for anyone who goes a season without a goal. So far Mele, Thorne, and Schrock are prospects.
The team is obviously playing well ( six wins in the last seven games), so the lack of production from these three hasn't seemed to hurt the K's. I know that they are contributing in other ways. Al Sims always seems to have glowing comments on them and I know they are trying and working hard. Take a moment to think what this team could do if they started to score? It would be exciting for Komet fans and scary for the rest of the CHL. Bennefield will be coming back, and most likely a forward will be going. The veterans need to be on their toes too, as I think they will be one over the limit when Bennefield comes back.
To find fault with any team that has won six out of seven ( and so many of those on the road) would be difficult. My only concern, as it stands today, is the number of penalties the K's take. Way too many 5 on 3 penalty kills taking place and way too many third period penalties. ( You can almost be certain the K's will take a penalty with less that two minutes remaining in the third period. )
Finally. I was so glad that Bloomington beat Allen last night. I don't want to see any CHL team struggle like the Blaze have been. It makes for a weaker league and lessens the future of a franchise.

I think if we got rid of every song that had moral, sexual, racial, etc... conotations or was sung by someone with a questionable past we would be left with gospel and Barney songs...lol I dont think those would be too popular at a sporting event...
