Tailing the Komets

Milam happy to return

New Komets defenseman Jamie Milam wanted to play in Fort Wayne last year, but...

``...Luckily they ran out of room,'' he said with a laugh. Instead, Milam signed with Boosier-Shreveport and won a Central Hockey League playoff title.

When the Mudbugs folded at the end of last season, the Komets went right after Milam and signed him.

``It's been on my radar the last couple of seasons. I felt like playing in Europ would have been a good opportunity, and I was waiting for it to come aorund this year, but there weren't any good offers. I always liked how close Fort Wayne is to home (near Detroit). It hasn't worked out before, but finally it did.''
Milam played 16 games with the Komets at the end of the 2005-06 season, mostly skating at forward, scoring six goals and 10 points in 12 games after finishing his eligibility at Northern Michigan University.
``I had played defense in college, but my college coach thought I was offensive enough to play defensive forward,'' Milam said. ``Chief put me back there on the power play, and I played a couple of games on defense, but I didn't care where he played me because I just wanted a chance to play pro hockey.''
Last year he scored 17 goals and 48 points in 66 games with the Mudbugs and four goals and 12 points in 21 playoff games.
