More on the altercation

Al Sims said, "I'm not going to say much about it, but obviously, players on the Muskegon bench were told something. I don't know by who, but they went out there and obviously did what someone told them. They did not do that on their own.

"I think it's very tough for Brad and Stayz to stay where they are when your best players who aren't fighters are getting pummeled. I certainly would have loved for him to stay inthe penalty box, but he went out and got retribution for Shaf. I can't fault the guy for wanting to stand up for his teammates. It's a tough call."

What Rich Kromm said when asked if he told his players what to do, "I put that line out, and they have the last change. He (Sims) put those guys out there. We didn't say anything to them. Those guys went out there. I think certain players have different roles on the team, just like MacMillan has a role for them. I put Robinson's line out, he puts MacMillan out there in an offensive zone faceoff. He can say what he wants. I put Big Snake out there with his line, they are turning the rotation, and he comes back with Chaulk. I didn't say anything to Robin about that. Robin was obviously trying to send a message, they are sending messages as well."

Kromm on what started the second altercation: "There was a level of frustration that their players like MacMillan deliberately went after our guys, and stuck the goalie to start it and then went after Tommy Galvin who isn't a fighter. Obviously Big Snake instigated the second fight, and after that, everybody just paired off and MacMillan came out of the box twice. They didn't see it the first time, but everybody in the building saw it but the linesmen and referee don't see it. He floats around free, challenges Lawmaster. What else was Lawmaster supposed to do?"

Robin Big Snake: "When a guy like Bouchard who scores 50 goals a year and is a guy on this team you want to look out for, and MacMillan never comes once to ask me to fight and he goes after Bouchard, obviously he has to know something is coming for one of their players... MacMillan just has to have a little respect. He just has to think next time. I'm not a guy who can tolerate that.

"I wasn't expecting this to happen, but it has to happen to get the respect back. I have a lot of respect for their organization. I know they won last year, and Muskegon was in the finals, so I'm sure it's going to be a battle every time we play each other. Hopefully he thinks about it the next time he wants to go after one of our top players because we have a pretty tough team on this team as it is. I think the tough guys have to fight the tough guys."

Colin Chaulk: "Bouchard said that MacMillan went after him so we're going after you.  (He said that) after Big Snake was pounding me. I guess I'm glad I'm compared to a 50-goal scorer, that's pretty cool."
"I have confidence in the league that they will give the necessary suspensions to both sides that protects the players, the integrity of the game and the league. I have confidence that will happen."

There's just one word for this: Unacceptable. Good for MacMillan for doing something, but yeah, he no doubt is looking at some time away.

I also wanted to add that it was very nice to meet you tonight, Burgee. You were a perfect guest and did absolutely brilliantly. Thank you.

Dschebig, I forgot to tell you! You were mentioned in the interview, too, so check it out when it airs next week. You too, Blake. :)

I have a feeling that Big Snake's lecture on "respect" will fall on deaf ears. The guy is a goon and deserves nothing less than a dental altering fist to the mouth. MacMillan stood up for his teammate like a man. Something Big Snake could stand to learn a little about.

What else was Lawmaster supposed to do?

Can I answer this.....Maybe he could have rolled around on the ice for a little while crying after Brad beat his arse for punking Shafronov.

Big Snake is a joke. He was a joke for Rockford, and is a joke now. He has no hockey talent, he is fat, and he sucks. He is a hack.

Kromm obviously instructed his goons to do what they did.

Bouchard probably ran his mouth at MacMillan and MacMillan did what he did. What started the whole thing was the slash to the back that MacMillan got.

Bouchard ran his mouth to my buddy after the game, so I would say, Bouchard ran his mouth on the ice too......remember this......Prison Rules......Bouchard is the guy that cried about the IHL and it's Prison Rules, left for the CHL, and came back to cash his paycheck in the Prison Rules League......and now this??? LOL Bouchard isn't exactly an angel here.

Big Fake needs dropped by Mac.

In Bloomington 2 nights ago......Robin Gomez fought Guy Dupuis......Guy "Mr. Nuceguy" Dupuis of all people......Did the Komets go after any of Bloomington's non-fighters? No.

MacMillan challenged Gomez to a fight the next time the 2 went onto the ice together, Gomez even fell down, and Mac let him get back up so they could have a fair, man-to-man fight....

I am just saying that I think the FuryJack could have handled things in this manner. Wait until Mac comes out of the box....and Big Snake challenge Mac to fight....I am sure Brad would have happily taken that fight. But I am beginning to wonder if Big Snake is afraid of Mac......???

Anyone else wondering the samething?

For those who can't wait for the next Muskegon game to see some kind of redemption, I think you will be disappointed. Most likely Mac and Big Snake will get long (at least 15 games) suspensions and Lawmaster should get a shorter one. I believe that Brad Jones will include every Fort Wayne - Muskegon game to be part of the punishment. There was plenty of ugliness on the ice last night, but, at the end of it all a hockey game had to be played. If you could take away the crazy stuff we saw a good, necessary victory for the K's. We'll soon know the punishment handed down by the league. I'm wondering how it will affect the roster decisions coming up.

It's one thing for a fighter to challenge a skill player if that person was asking for it in some way. It's something else entirely to have your fighters jump skill players as some form of twisted retribution.

I hear Jeff Worlton is looking for somewhere to play, lol, lets just sign one whole line of chin-busters and be done with it.We did it in the 90's,it worked.wheres Dale Purinton playing? Maybe there should be no suspensions handed out, just put the guys in a room together and let them talk it out amongst themselves---Yes thats it!Prblem solved!

I take my hat off to Brad for standing up. But why are we always on the short end of the stick when it comes to stuff like this? Last night vs. Musky, playoffs against Rockford 2 years ago, the Kevin Hansen incident vs. Elmira.......the list goes on. We seem to get taken advantage of physically more than we dish it out. We have a very good team but I think we are missing the physical element. The K's management have been the advocates of a more physical league but we always seem to get out muscled when push comes to shove. When I look at our roster as far as physical presence here is what I see:
Mac - Very tough but only 5-10. It is unrealistic to think that he can hold up fighting guys that are well over 6ft all year long.
Stayzer - Decent size and willing to go, but not a heavyweight by any means
Bertram - Has the size and a good d-man but not a very good fighter. Always ducks his head and gets handled by guys his size.
Shrock - Great heart and willing to look you in the eye and throw em.....but again at 5-11, 190 doesn't have the size to hold up against these aircraft carriers that other teams have.

If you look at some of the guys other teams have that can be a physical presence and actually play a litte to, we can't match up:
Justin Sawyer - 6-6, 240
Robin Gomez - 6-2, 210
Roman Ndur - 6-2, 244
Jon Tremblay - 6-3, 240
Jason Goulet - 6-5, 245
Derek Parker - 6-2, 215
Big Snake - 6-0, 219
Mike Bray - 6-3, 210
and on and on

When we got Bonneau, Franke said that we finally had a true heavyweight to take the pressure off of Mac but he never made it because the AHL team needed some muscle to "protect their skill players". Hey, what a great concept!! Since we are the flagship team in AA hockey, we should be able to get some toughness in here so that stuff that happened last night doesn't happen any more. Most other teams have more than 1 true heavyweight.......we need to match that in order to protect OUR skill players.......

Sorry this was so long....but I don't post often but get tired of the K's, while they have been wildly successful, get handled physically and depending on 1 guy, who is under 6ft tall, to be their heavyweight.

I don't necessarily think that if we had another fighter, a heavyweight, that any of this would have been different. Would Coach Kromm had thought, wow, they have Jimmy Bonneau on the bench, I am not going to put Big Snake, LawMaster, Bolt, Ruellf, and #10 (can't remember the name) out to goon it up.....No, I don't think it made any difference.

1 of 2 things happened on the Komet's end of things.....(1)Al Sims under-estimated the situation when Kromm put that line out there....which is odd, because I saw it coming when he huddled the team around him on the bench and Snake and LawMaster jumped onto the ice and looked ready to go, How did Coach Sims not see that coming is beyond me....or (2) Coach Sims fell asleep. in the moment. He could have put out Stayzer, Rodger, Thomas, Varone, and Klempa and actually combated the Goons that were out there....at least Stayzer and Rodger could have taken care of the 2 goons out there and really, Thomas and Varone either one could have taken Lawmaster, Lawmaster can't fight....he is soft. I think Rodger could give Snake a run and Stayzer could have at least got a few shots in on Snake if need be, before his grand "fall-down"....

So to me, if any blame needs to go out....I love Al Sims.....but why in the heck did he allow his #1 line go onto the ice unprotected when Big Snake was lined up to take the face-off.....I mean give me a break guys, that should have been the obvious sign. What am I missing here? i am not the only fan in the building that saw this thing going down....It is Robin Big Snake.....HELLO???

Now we have to deal with Brad being out 20+ games because of this bad decision. Brad did what he had to do. I don't blame him at all and no one should. Only thing I wish, is that he could have gotten ahold of Snake and beat the poo out of him. Snake is a Goon and nothing more.

Gomez vs. Mac = draw (from what I heard)
Ndur = overrated
Tremblay = inactive
Goulet = big; but not a good fighter
Big Snake = nuts; but overrated
Bray vs. Mac = Mac pounded him
Parker/Sawyer = ?

Size does not equal heart....

I still can't get them to post, I didn't say anything wrong. LOL

I will try to re-type it....

I said, I really love Sims as a coach, but he left his #1 line out there un-protected. Everyone in the building knew what was going down there....Big Snake was taking the faceoff against Chaulk. It was obvious. So why did he allow that to take place?

Now we deal with Brad being out 20+ games because of this coaching mistake in my opinion. Brad did what he had to do. I can't fault him at all for going out and protecting his teammates. We all watched Kevin Hanson take a death-beating 3 years ago and no one came to his rescue.....Brad is a hero in my book. But it all could have been avoided if Sims wouldn't have sent the #1 line out there. I don't understand his judgement on this.....someone help me out here....any anwers?

I see your point Hit, but when you suggest but it is sad when the toughest forward line that we can put out against their goons includes Varone (5-9) and Klempa (5-8)....Don't get me wrong, I love our team and we have a lot of talent but we need a heavyweight or 2 to protect our skill.

Maybe a heavyweight....they had him in Legault and let him walk.....but that is another issue.

In all fairness to our roster....our 2 best fighters were in the box. Mac and as JM put it....Schrocky Balboa. But Rodger is a very good fighter, he could have handled himself well, and didn't we sign Stayzer with the thoughts he is a fighter? I know I read that several times that Blair would add that big-guy we needed. Why was he on the bench? And Leo can fight.

I just don't understand why Chaulk, Shaf, Guy, Drouin, and Woodard were on the ice in that situation......
Did anyone ask Sims that question? If not, please ask it. And demand a real answer. Did Al fall asleep or was he sending his boys out to get taken advantage of?

JR
Sun, 11/01/2009 - 11:51am

I think Al was probably salivating over the potential powerplays that matchup would produce; but it never crossed his mind that the "you know what would" hit the fan and it would end up costing him in the long run...

Sun, 11/01/2009 - 11:56am

Well that is simply stupid....Not you JR.....if that was his thinking......it was dumb.

Let me allow Big Snake kill 2 of my Powerplay guys so we can get a powerplay out this situation.....hmmmm.....that is good thinking. Chaulk is the face of this organization and you allow him to go out and take that beating???

Let's all shake hands with Big Snake next time we see him, out of professional respect.....because he is professional. Not intended for SuperFan...intended for the guy who signs the checks for Chaulk. Never shake hands with the enemy.

I feel bad for Shaf and Chaulk and I think Mac is a good guy overall, and he had to do what he had to do. It sucks he will get suspended, but I think there should be 2 players and a coach form Musky getting the same amount of time off.

I guess this is the drama that everyone likes, and it will sell more tickets the next time these two play with a full roster.
