Who is this team? Haven't seen this much all year. But its nice to see both offense and defense working well in one game. Can't wait until Wednesday night. Keep it going. Lets Go Komets.

I will probably hear about this but Larry didn't really play that bad.. He had no defense at all and from what i saw he was at fault for maybe 2 of the goals he let up!! As for everyone that wants Dupuis and Drouin gone, look at the stat sheet from the last 10 games and you will see that these two lead the team in points in those 10 games plus the points they had tonight!!

Harley you are right on. A goalie can only be so good with no defense.

I am glad to see Guy and PC on a roll too.

The hard question is who is going to go when everyone gets off the IR or is it going to be an IR hop.?.?

Harley you are correct. Larry did not play that poorly
But I still want PC and Guy gone. ;)

In another post I said I wanted to see if the Komets would get as up to play Larry as they he was to play them.
They were. Maybe he was the spark this team needed?

Awesome game tonight.

I had alot of fun at this game, I had to keep questioning if it was really a Sunday game?????

They are playing better.

Who said Colin Chaulk wouldn't or wasn't making a difference?

He is putting up points and making this team a whole lot better.

Also, it was awesome to see LKS agitating tonight, he had the whole LizardKing team trying to take his head off instead of them playing hockey, the shift he got the goal was because they were more interested in trying to head hunt him and he got away from the thugs in front of the net to drill home a beauty goal.

Patrosso looked good tonight.

The tough thing is definitely going to be picking 2-4 guys to waive now.....

Who? I can't say who right now. It is very very very tough. I would hate to screw with the mojo they have going now.....

And we all know that OC and LEO are both a hige part of this team. And Warner will be back.

Are we missing Curadeau right now?

I will let someone else answer that one.

And the Frankes have officially said in public they have no interest in Brad MacMillan....

Does this mean he will be back next week?

Do we really need Shaf back now? I say no.

Matt told me tonight that he 100% for the first time year. the pain in is back wouldn't let him skate like he should. he knows his game was not right, but he wanted to play. not Sims and the frankies they wanted him to set and get better, it was his call

No we are not missing curadeau. Ks have a little streak going here why screw it up by putting him in!

Not missing Curdy, IF he's been playing hurt all year that is VERY selfish of him and he should've gotten the problem taken care of properly long ago.

Let Mac sign in the SPHL to serve his suspension and get into game shape and then bring him on board

I say it was the 2 lovely redheads behind the visitor bench. It sure threw Levescque off his game.....esecially when I yelled "is levesque French for LOSER?" He got a litte peeved about that...LOL. And hpw about that 10 year old in sec 217 who got the "start the bus larry" chant goin with about 3 minutes to go left in the game ? I have a funny kid.....

I guess we should raise his jersey to the rafters now and name the parking lot underpass after him.

Etta boy GM, find something negative on what is probably the best weekend for the Komets of the season. I love Komets fans like you.

Let's see, Komets are 7-1-4 in their last 12 games, taken 18 out of a possible 24 points and people are still complaining about them??? Just wow...

Mon, 01/17/2011 - 9:12am

Because I'm not lined up to kiss the back side of Colin that makes me negative?

Seriously people, it was 1 good weekend where they won 2 out of 3..They've done it and fell right back into old habits. Sorry if I'm not quite ready to give them the championship yet like you are.

GM, why is this a Colin Chaulk thing? I believe this is an attitude change by the whole team. He was brought in to assume a role. Since the Komets announced he would be back about 10 games ago, things have picked up. They played a stinker at home on January 7th but have been not bad other then that.
Guy and PC seem to have caught their annual second wind. Leo will be back soon hopefully. The "team" has a chance to go on a tear. And that one player will be doing his part.
As a side note, Colin has 7 points in 6 games and a team leading +5. And with only 2 minutes in penalties he seems to understand the officiating in this league.
There is still a lot of games to be played and things happen. But as of this moment, the "team" has a lot of up side.

Another rant here, what is the deal with some fans saying Sims is overrated as a coach? Seriously? The last 4 years he has coached in Fort Wayne he has won 4 championships! What more could you possibly ask for? That is perfection! That is what teams play for every year! Save the IHL was bad argument too. I don't care what league you play in, winning for titles in a row is a great accomplishment!

Mr Snufflupugus
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 10:16am

Mike in all fairness to GM (and myself) it was not either of us that brought him into this.

My stance on him at this point is on record. I hope the Komets turn around and win the cup this year. That would be good for me as a fan and very good for me as a business owner/sponsor. More playoff rounds=more potential dates for people to see my advertising.
As I said elsewhere on this blog if that happened some fans would still complain that this championship was bought and paid for and that this league must be no good because they won it.
I will say that bringing the same "old" back year after year will eventually backfire and is a continuation of the mistake this team has made in not looking towards new and younger talent. You can only go to the well with the IHL guys for so long. At some point you have to get past the past.

Mr Snufflupugus
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 10:25am

And Mike I believe you have a connection to Colin so please don't take anything I am saying as an offense (offence).
I would be saying this about ANY reach back to the past at this point. I said it before the season started. Heck I said it before last season! As a fan I was ready to see something new after the second cup. I was pleasantly surprised this core group were able to make another run last year. I'll be the same if they get past the first round this year.
But I have to admit I don't get attached to players like many fans do. To me they are simply pieces of the team. I understand why some like the comfort of seeing those same faces for years. It is that which sets the Komets apart from most minor league teams. They have always kept guys around for years at a time.
Shucks I am rambling now. Both sides of this discussion should hopefully understand where I am coming from by now. Just because I want to see a younger more hungry team in here doesn't mean the old players (age and years of service) can't play anymore. If anyone still thinks I have "hate" for Chaulk as a person or a player then there is nothing I can do to change your mind. But it is false.

I hear you loud and clear, no offense taken Snuff. I do have a connection to Colin and have attempted to stay away from any controversy. I am not trying to cause issue here. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. My rebuttal was for GM and the "one good weekend" comment. I believe I made my point. That is what blogs are for. I also understand that it is from difficult to impossible to change a persons mind. I see your point concerrning the roster but humbly disagree.

Mike...
One thing we maybe can agree on....
Here is hoping J.S. Giguere is sent packing on trade deadline day and the Leafs can find out once and for all what they have in Reimer and The Monster...
Yes? No?

I'm a little surprised at the overall tone of the blog this morning.

Capturing five of a possible six points and scoring fourteen goals in three games is a terrific sign. The frustration of Friday's shoot-out loss seemed to be forgotten with the road win at Bloomington and the shellacking of Mississippi last night. I think the road victory really boosted their confidence as they looked like they were having a lot of fun last night. One thing I noticed last night was that the K's finally were the team getting the breaks. Bounces went the K's way with a Mississippi shot going off the post instead of in, and some pucks that just were out of their reach. Reiter played a fine game and the K's were the team that got to the loose pucks. A lot of hustle as they handled the puck with confidence.

I'm also not sure why people are banging so much on Colin Chaulk. I can tell from watching him that he has changed some of the attitude on the ice. He is "coaching" the young guys on positioning before faceoffs, he is communicationg with the vets on how he wants the play to develop if he gets the draw, and I see a confidence building with the team. I'm sure he is doing the same thing while on the bench and in the locker room. ( To those who question his age or any other argument you may have, I must say that I just don't get it. To bring in a player of Chaulk's caliber and skill, along with his leadership and experience is an obvious move. Geez, get past his age. He is scoring points and doing exactly the things he was brought in to do).

The tough part is coming up for the K's. That is, who do you let go in order to get the roster under control? It is going to be a tough, tough, decision with the forwards. I know that many of you will yell for Druin's scalp, or Curadeau, or maybe Patrosso or maybe someone else. The fact is that unless the K's can play some type of IR game they will have to let loose of a talented player or two. Each one has really started to contribute, even LaPointe although he has only played a few games. Do you part with a youngster? Mussellwhite, Francis, Podshendyalov are all developmental players and hold value.

I say do what is best for the team. Do whatever makes the team better. Unfortunately the K's are going to lose a talented player or two. Maybe they can make a two-for-one trade. Who knows? The problem is that O'Connor and Thomas will both be coming off within the next week or so which means decisions will have to be made fast.

The game last night reminded me of "Komet Hockey" for the first time all season. It's true that one weekend is just a snapshot, but lets see if they can keep it going.

The Leafs are like a super nova for goal tenders. It quickly becomes a black hole. Yes I agree Snuff. I am not a Leaf's fan but I do watch them quite a bit. The goaltending is only as good as the defence. And that is where TO is having problems. Luke Schenn is coming around and Francois Beauchimen has been playing ok in his own zone. But the rest of the D are very offensive minded. The goalie is left to hold the bag.
It is ironic that in the days of Ed Balfour and Curtis Joseph the Leafs would be outshot 2 to 1 and still win. Those guys would win 7 to 10 games a year by themselves.
