I was at the game tonight, and I couldn't tell you without watching a slow motion replay. It happened fast and there were a bunch of people that all crashed into the goalie and the net at the same time. Nobody on the Komets got overly upset though when the ref waved off the goal.

First, it was a goal because the puck clearly was in the net before 95% of all that contact even happened.
2nd, the Dayton player pushed the FW players after Chewy made his move and wrapped the puck around into the net.
3rd, How can the ref rule no goal due to Goaltender interference.....but not call an actual Goaltender Interference penalty???
The ref tonight let alot of things go....which is fine I guess, it was equal both ways, I think the Komets got alot of breaks on tripping calls. Tons of offside calls missed both ways. Horrible.

The way the rule is written you don't have to call a penalty. It can be called a violation the same as hitting the puck with a high stick or gloving a pass.

Gotcha imaginary friend.
Read my other post in the other thread on lines. It was the forever changing line combos in the 1st. It was ridiculous to say the least.
At least 4 times I saw a line of Chaulk, Rodger, Woodard with Bertram and Warner. Chewy moved up to start the game on the 2nd shift with the #2 line, then it was never repeated more than twice after that with musical lines. Confusing to me, and surely to the players. Might partially explain the poor start.
Syro missed 10 wide open nets.
Woods is wasting a roster spot right now. That is harsh, I like Mitch from 2 years ago, but what is the point of this Mitch?

The puck is already in the net in the first photo. Chewy didn't even touch the goalie. He cut across the net and put the puck in the net and then cut behind the net. That is him in the second photo pinned to the boards behind the net by #11 from Dayton. Rodgers was then pushed into the goalie. Terrible call by a terrible ref.

MacMillan and Shrock played very well tonight and Mac cold have had at least one goal that nailed the post on a powermove he made flying up the ice. I would like to see Mac, Shrock, and OC together for a bit. I think they would be fun to watch. Huk comes back and fits into the PC and Leo line well like last year.

Yeah, Hit, but Woods is sooooo dreamy....
Woods isn't the only one wasting a roster spot, IMO. As far as the lines go, I was confused from the get-go. I thought the choice of starters was pretty "interesting" also. Not really what I would've considered a line for a quick start.
That was the smallest 5,500 people crowd I've ever seen. You know there aren't many people there when the camera crews have to start showing people on the big screen twice because they've run out of options. It's a good thing IU is so terrible this year, or else a lot more people would've chosen the better entertainment option of watching IU and Purdue play. I'm sorry to seem so down, and I know I've written a lot of pessimistic things, but this year's team is ho-hum at best.
Hopefully next week the effort level and intensity goes up or else I might find myself asleep in the middle of one of the 5 games...

I was at the opposite end of the ice so I couldn't say one way or another on the goaltender interference call. Seems like Chewy just can't catch a break as he really worked hard, put the puck in the net, and then doesn't get credit for it.....I believe the referee was Ian Croft......with Thomas out for the game it seemed to me that Al Sims was double-shifting Chaulk and Chewy at center whenever it was possible, can't have stable lines all night when one of your centers is out.....I think the game was pretty entertaining. The K's had all sorts of great chances in the 1st but the puck would not go in the net. McIntyre played well and he also had a lot of luck. The game could have been 4-2 or 5-2 at the end of the 1st period just as easily as the 2-0 score. It was a necessary win as Muskegon and Port Huron both won also.

By the way, after reading all the sagacious comments regarding my "step above a professional wrestling crowd" post, I must sincerely apologize to those who though I was talking to them. Nothing could be further from the truth. I hold you all in high regard and know very well that none of you would be a part of that group. However, after reading your comments I can see that maybe my post had an odoriferous quality to it. From now on, when overhearing non-intellectual comments from people around me at the games, I will try to eliminate from my mind the negativism of that belief and replace the "brain half empty" theory with a more optimistic "brain half full" thought.

LG: I understand about the count, it was total sarcasm. I just tend to wonder why they make the crowd announcment on nights when the place is 66% empty when, for the most part, those of us who are still there are the season ticket holders who know about the counts and how they are calculated.
Alan: I love the big words. More fodder for Blake to use in his column if he is struggling to meet space requirements :) And before anyone takes that the wrong way, I'm not saying the rest of his articles are full of fodder.

Eh, I make it a point not to judge other people. You never know when you aren't catching them at their best. As for Woods... well... Is he doing any worse than Varone was? But if he wanted to keep his roster spot based on "dreaminess" alone, he shouldn't have gotten engaged. LOL.

I did ask Ian Croft after the game about his call. He was very accommidating. I will paraphrase his response. He basicly admitted he was a little behind the play. He said the goaltender interference was totally incidental and not intentional at all. He explained that he believed the contact prevented the goaltender from being able to make a play on the puck. He was also honest enough to admit that the puck could have been over the line before his call. He said me must call what he sees. He didn't see the puck over the line until after he had made his call. Therefore there was no goal allowed and no penalty. I thanked him for explaining it to me. I have never meant a referee who would not, when ask, explain thier calls to me. John Marks (Dayton Coach) was upset that Ian didn't call the roughing on Woods. Ian explained that he thought both guys really only pushed and shoved each other. I do not think he saw the punch to the face. I personally think he (Ian) called a pretty good game. He let both sides play the game. Could he have called more penalties. You bet! I hope this helps some of you understand the calls from the referees better.
