Syro and Drouin would have missed the net by 5 feet on that shot.....lol

JR. remember Drouin is only playing at 75% at times.

I guess you missed the sick goal that PC had on a breakaway last night? I'm not his biggest fan either, but I don't think I would be making a crack about missing a wide open net after the move he made.

He sure has scored a lot of goals this year for playing so badly. (Wait for it....)

Since one goal makes you a hero in a blowout win against the worst team in the league, we should all go out and buy some Warner jerseys too! ;) Now THAT is how you instigate! Let's hear it!

Talking about an entirely different type of shot Hoss. I am cracking on his ability this year to miss wide open shots on rebounds or after great passes... If you notice, I also poked fun at Syro who also scored a goal last night....

I try not to give players a hard time for missing wide open nets. It's like stuttering. If you make them nervous about it, it just gets worse.

PC is good ,if he had worked hard all the time you would of never seen him in this league.Yes that was a nice goal 100% & with a couple of other good shifts minus his 50% shifts =75%

Keep in mind, if a player can pass on the tape, skate fast, transition fast, be in position most of the time, put almost all his shots on goal and make few mistakes we will never see him except on TV. That's the nature of minor league hockey, especially at this level.
Also, with a couple of exceptions, the players themselves know that too. This isn't a developmental league, few players in it stand a chance of moving up. They aren't here for the money either. They are here because they love playing the game and here they can do that and get some money for it. Not enough to make a living and support their families which is why they all have other jobs.
I would guess there are a ton of guys in Canada playing in senior leagues who can out-perform a lot of the players in this league, they just want regular jobs making better money and put hockey secondary or farther down in their lives.

Steve, I wish you would post more often. You are a smart guy! Dead on with that post. Have fun at the game tonight, and go Komets!

This is probably the most emotional I've been at any comment I have read in almost 8 years. Steve, what a great post. I wasn't sure that anyone understood. And BLB, an assist for appreciating what I believe is a very profound statement. Wendy and I discussed some of this during our chat. Blake and I were able to talk about hockey and the nuiances of the minor leagues during my last visit.
Steve you are right, except for one thing. The best don't always get a shot. There is so much politics and BS behind the scenes that good players can be left behind.
This is not the place to get into specifics, but I know from personal experience it happens way more than it should.
Not everyone is going to be Sydney or Ovey that's for sure. However there a lot of potential 3rd and 4th line 10+ plus year NHL guys that never got the chance. Lot's of reasons.
Steve, it is like Bull Durham, Costner's catcher is the guy that knows the game, can play but is the odd man out.
The players just want to play. Give me 7,000 plus at a game in Fort Wayne, and a chance to make a decent living. My wife will tell you, we've been married almost 35 years but I'd roller skate all the way there to play.
Oh, and if there is a coke can or a tennis ball or something for me to shoot on my way that would be great

Great posts guys! I agree 100%; but you have to add that other group...the group of players that have all the talent in the world, that for one reason or another cant get to the top because of whats between the ears... I think thats what drives alot of fans nuts about Drouin, he's got all the tools, made it to the show, and should be at least playing in the AHL with all the talent he has...

JR. that's what drives the rest of us "coulda, shoulda, wouldas" guys etc nuts. When you lace em up with someone like that it just makes you want to cut your braces and go straight up.

Thanks. I agree with you on the politics. It also affects coaching staff as well as players.
Fun game tonight. We got back from Indy just in time to make it to the game, my youngest is home for a week's leave and we went down to pick him up. 82nd Airborne, just back from Haiti. Had a few more beers then normal but my wife can drive so it didn't matter.
The airport there was full of people flying in for the Final 4. Had fun talking to some of them while waiting. Funny thing, talking to a guy from W. Virginia and the conversation turned to hockey (guess I steered it that way). When I said we were from Fort Wayne and talked about the NCAA tournament here he said, "ah, the Fort Wayne Komets, right?" Didn't get any further as the passengers were coming then so I don't know how he knew about the Ks.
