Overtime penalties are 1:00 in the CHL.

Yeah, apparently that's right. I remember now why it sounded familiar. I didn't read about it in relation to the CHL, but rather with the NHL. It was one of the proposals on ways to change overtime. The minor leagues are usually used as lab mice for testing such things out. Of course, if everyone thinks something is a great idea, they just go ahead and implement it. I, for one, don't think cutting penalties in half in overtime is a great idea.

I haven't decided yet if I like the one minute penalties in OT. I think it's OK with only four players on the ice to begin with and it helps counter the "referee factor" a bit.
No-touch icing is another one of those experiments that the NHL doesn't seem to be able to make its mind up about.
Back when the IHL started shoot outs the NHL and AHL openly shunned them, saying it wasn't hockey and they would never do them................... I agree :-)

Eh, I don't know. I keep thinking that if the goal is to get more games end before the much-loathed shootout, isn't it better for teams that commit penalties to remain short-handed the FULL time? Also (and this goes without saying if you know me) it just bugs me that you can trip somone in regulaton and serve 2 minutes but only serve 1 minute if you trip a player in overtime. It seems to me that it encourages players to commit penalties... and then punishes them for it. And maybe that is the goal, to encourage more physical play in the extra session, but couldn't they just instruct the refs to put away their whistles in overtime as they so often do during the playoffs?
