It looks like Komets defenseman Jake Pence is headed to the injured reserve list again. Pence got nailed in the ribs Saturday night in Kalamazoo, aggravating a previous injury he felt was ready to go. Pence said he was on the penalty kill during the second period when he got hit up against the boards.
"I knew it right away," he said. "It knocked the wind out of me. I had extra pads on, and it dispersed it a little, but not enough."
Originally, Pence suffered the same injury last year in Game 6 of the Turner Cup Finals, and then again in an exhibition game this fall. He went to the doctor on Monday and said he'll need a bone density scan for further evaluation.
"My whole career I've never had to sit out any amount of time for an injury," Pence said. "I've never had to deal with this before. The worst thing is I don't know what it is and what to do about it.
"I felt great this weekend. I got a ton of ice time and got some responsibility on the PK and the PP, and now I'm back to square one."
Komets General Manager David Franke said defenseman Brandon Warner has said he's ready to come back to the lineup and the team is looking for another defenseman, but not too hard. There are six healthy defensemen on the roster.
The team is giving former Komet Adam Lewis a tryout. Lewis, 30, has not played since the 2004-05 season when he played 20 games. The left wing was part of the Komets' 2003 Colonial Cup championship team. If signed, Lewis would count as a veteran, leaving one veteran spot open.

My wishes for a speedy and compete recovery to Pence. We'll miss him, but his being okay is of course the most important thing. I hope the doctors can figure out why he's been having so much trouble with this and help him get back to 100% again.
Why Adam Lewis? No offense to him, I liked him 3 years ago...but how does he help this current team and who has to sit or leave the team for him to play? The lines will be set when Osman and Legault return and we might have to cut someone then to make room for those 2 guys. I don't understand this move? Can Adam play Defense? Will they move PC to defense? What gives?
i agree with (HIT SOMEBODY) why Adam Lewis, we are in need of defense players. i think moving pc to "D" would be a good idea. however there are "D" men out there looking for a place to play and would suit this team better than Adam would.i mean why waste 1 of the last 2 vet spots we have on adam makes no since to me. if we want more offense then why not go after pascal morency or luciano aquino they both were here before the season started talking with the franke's wanting to come back here and play again and either one of those players would be a better investment than adam and would more and likely fit this team and help this team out more than Adam. but hey im just one guy with one guys opinion.
