I also talked with Mitzi Toepfer, Fort Wayne Youth Hockey League guru for decades about the debate on how much the Komets support/donate to the league.
``If there was something the league needed for some help of some kind, they have always helped, be it financial or whatever,'' she said. ``Normally, finances aren't even a question. They have gone out of their way since they have been owners. They have always been very accommodating and supportive of Fort Wayne Youth Hockey.''
As for having more exhibitions on weeknights this year, Toepfer said, ``That's for starters, the Komets had fewer Saturday night games this year and they had to work in some of these Wednesday night games and stuff."
Last night was the Komets' first Satuday home since Jan. 9. They've only had five so far this season.
As for paying $175 for youth hockey league jerseys, Toepfer said, ``I'm not sure where he's buying jerseys, but we've never paid $175 for jerseys.''
Toepfer normally buys all the jerseys for FWYH.

Don't you hate it when people say outrageous things that they have no proof of, and then you have to stop whatever it is that you are doing and refute them because otherwise people will think it's true? :P
I do...ugh
Mitch Woods-Cyclones jersey=$550.00/Robin Bawa k-wing jersey=$350.00
Thank you for making this clear. The Frankes could bankroll 10 cancer patients' entire medical bills, and someone would still debate that they should have paid this, or that they paid too much for that, or something. Some people will just think the worst of those guys, no matter what they do at this point.
It was good to see you last night, mightbite! Jason thought you were very cool, and he was glad to meet you. He's gonna tell all his friends he has met his future trainer now. LOL
Will the next blog entry be about the Franke's being introduced into the sainthood while attending church Sunday? LOL..
Just for the record, 22 Friday and Saturday games, only 2 FWYH raffles. 7 Wednesdays and 6 raffles. I don't consider that "working in the Wednesday games". Sounds like the Komets have more important intermission crap to do on the weekends. I'd hate to miss Great Clips with Icy.
Junglemonkey, I thought they were already saints? After all, look how great of a league they are building.
When do the kids normally play their games? Is it week nights or weekends?
Sour Grapes again?
I am not buying into this new entitlement movement that is sweeping across the blog right now. No one owes Youth Hockey anything last time I checked. If the Komets choose to support that program, great. Just because Great Clips gave money for prime dates for promotional uses....doesn't make the Komets villains for not giving those dates to the Pee Wee kids. Sorry. I am not buying it.
Anyone here listen to the Jim Rome show? Entitlement Eric ring a bell?
I am basing the price of the jerseys on what I've been told by other parents, but come on. That is cheap advertising for the Komets. Also, I don't see anything in this article about anything else they do. As far as the finances, thats why the parents pay $1500+ for their kids to play.
By the way Mark21, My ECHL jersey came in the mail in 6 days and Like I said, It was made in North America and came with ALL patches( 7 patches, Main logo, name, and number) for $200 even(shipping included). they are $185 at their store. Also, the letters and numbers are identical to the real jerseys, and last I knew, the Komets jerseys used standard block jerseys that did not match the real ones. I have several Komets jerseys, game worn, and replica. The jerseys from KK are nice. I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that comparing them, the ECHL jerseys are much better for what you pay for. Since I'm sure I'm wrong, I will not post anymore, so go ahead and tear my posting apart. Good day!
Sorry, One more thing. Some of my Komets jerseys are made in Canada. I didn't want you to rip me apart on that one. I was just stating that all the ECHL jerseys are made in Canada as well, by Reebok.
I assme your talking about the Intermission games? This year they were only allowed on Wednesday games. As far as the Komets supporting youth hockey. The Komets are the reason these kids are all playing hockey and all the parents and families support the Komets, many with several hundred dollars a year. i don't think giving them a little back is asking much.
I meant standard block letters and numbers, not jerseys. Sorry.
Jungle Monkey...yes, the Frankes are saints....LOL....I kid, I kid...
Hit, you are right. No one owes anyone anything. That's why this whole thing is a little ridiculous. I don't understand why anyone bothers to be generous sometimes. If you do something, it's never enough. I pay for my own kid to play. This sport is possibly the most expensive sport to play, I knew it going in, and I will do what I can to let him continue. No one needs to bankroll me (although if anyone wants to do so, I'll happily take donations...). No one is a villain for not donating their hard-earned money to me for me choosing to let my son play hockey. You put things right in perspective sometimes...
I've got some pucks I would donate=pucks cost money
Blueline Baby if the Franke family paid for ten cancer patients there would be some morons complaining they didn't pay for #'s 11 and 12.
True enough, Mr S....or that they should have paid for ice time instead for FW Youth Hockey.
mightbite, we'll take your pucks if you want to get them to a future NHLer....Jason can lift 'em all hour long at practice. Bring them out on Friday and leave then at customer svc for me. They'll get them to me.
The Komets really don't have to give FWYH anything. This is not new. Most youth hockey teams take the name of the their NHL or minor league team. As far as jersey prices, talk from one parent to another is like playing telephone. Go right to the source like Blake did and get your facts straight before you make FWYH look so bad. When we travel with FWYH we have strict rules on our conduct. I wish the parents would stick to these rules as well.
Wow, I'm afraid to buy a raffle ticket now because I might get accused of not buying enough of them.
Bottom line, if you can't afford to play FWYH and pay you shouldn't be in it, house league is expensive enough already if you add in fees and equipment. Besides that doesn't each kid have the opportunity to solicit businesses on their own for support as well. Who is going to see any advertising or anything associated with FWYH, the same group of people each time, an advertisers or supporters ROI can't be very much.
I would be thankful for whatever you are getting in todays economy!
Also if you're gonna bash an organization use your real name on the blog, its only fair-if anyone wanted to find Burgee its the big old boy walking around the Komets games with his komets jersey on and Burgee Emblazened on the back, I'm not hard to miss.
And if you don't know what he looks like, his interview should be up on YouTube in a few days. :)
BLB, NO game on friday & not sure if we'll make it wed.=getting sick with the wife + were is costomer svc?????
hockey61 is known as Ned Steele.
I just want to say that I as a hockey parent am very greatful to the Komets and the Komet Fans for their support of youth hockey.
mightbite, I think she means the information booth in the arena lobby.
Call me what you want. I just wanted to say sorry for causing such a disturbance over my opinions. How much the jerseys cost is not really even the argument hear, and not sure how it came to that. The bottom line here is, that at www.fwyh.org. it states that all travel teams will be "sponsored" by the Komets. Yes, maybe they donate "some" jerseys. But beyond that, they don't give anything. They "allow" us to do their raffles and they supposedly give us 15% discount cards( which I've never seen" ) for KK. You all are right. They don't "have" to give us anything, but don't turn around and call them a sponsor. Jerseys could be bought much much cheaper from someone else, and the teams would be open to finding sponsors willing to pay for them. It is against FWYH rules to wear any jerseys other than Komets, even if a sponsor buys brand new ones.
Bottom line is, I don't need support my kids. My kids play on my money. Just don't call yourself a sponsor when you infact give very little.
Funny thinbg here is that you all think I don't know crap, when in fact I know an awful lot on how this stuff works. I just Ain't afraid to tell it like it is. I get real tired of people taking credit for something they don't do, and it seems as if most people on here think the Frankes are gods of some sort. Many people feel the same way I do, but are just afraid to say anything on here because they are gonna get ripped apart by the few faithfull. That's fine. I could go on all day about this, but I'll just end it here.
mightbite, I meant the customer service at Canlan....we're there every Friday night for Jason's hockey practice. But wherever and whenever you want to meet to get them to me is great. We'll take 'em. Our team can use 'em for practice! Thanks, anyway, Bob....I'd meet him at the Komets game this coming Sunday too....hope you and the wife feel better soon, mightbite!
Hockey61 if you can get the jerseys of the same quality cheaper elsewhere, is anyone forcing you to take the jerseys sponsored by the Komets?
BLB -- I don't know how many practice pucks you and Jason need, but I have a bunch that I could part with....some of them are up to 25 years old, but if you're interested let me know and I'll dig them out....trying to get a headstart on spring cleaning during my spring break from classes...
Bob,
Donate your pucks to Flint. They need them more. LOL
Classic,
Hit Somebody!!!
At least they don't say "Saginaw" on them!
Got any San Francisco Spiders pucks? ;)
