Reiter is GOW

The CHL announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Feb. 13.

Reiter, 29, won all three appearances during the week allowing only one goal on 70 shots for a 0.33 goals-against average and .986 save percentage.  Reiter began the week with a 21-save performance for a 7-1 win against the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder Wednesday before snagging back-to-back 2-0 shutouts Saturday at Dayton and Sunday at home against Evansville.

Congrats, Reiter! Awesome job. Hopefully now the guy sitting behind me will quit complaining that youre out of the net too much. Keep it up!

As one of Reiter's detractors most of this season, I sincerely congratulate him. What's interesting is he is winning AND he's not nearly out of the net as much as the first half of the season.

If he wasn't GOW I would demanand a recount. Didn't he have like 3 straight shutouts when he was with the K's before?

Heck Yes!!!

He should stay in net. Ride the hot pony!!!

This will force Nick to step-up his game as well. It always does make Nick better.

Lets keep Kevin riding high, D-men need to keep up the good work in front of Rides I know this will help Nick settle down and return to his good form.

Ratchuk reassigned back to the Fort per Springfield's site!! That should help the defense in front of Rides and Bouch. Can't wait to see him play. This should solidify the Ks to continue the run up the standings.

So does Ratchuk get 5 free games every time he is sent down, or just the first time? Are we going to have to cut somebody? And after tonight somebody has to be cut for Nasty, right?

Alleluia -- Ratchuk is coming back and we are actually going to get to see him play! He may be the last piece of the puzzle for the Komets!

Who's on the chopping block? Danko or Musslewhite?

I'd hate to see Musselwhite go. And Danko is one of the really good guys... Going to be a tough decision either way.

I would rather keep Musslewhite then Danko. But I really like Danko. If I were going to cut anybody, I would cut Warner... but i'm sure they won't do that. So if anybody, I think Danko.

Congratulations to Kevin Reiter.

Blake, on a couple of sites I have read that Ratchuk has been assigned back to Fort Wayne. I am hoping this is true and have faith that you are on top of it and will confirm.

Would you be kind enough to ask if this is just to fill out his earlier 5 game stint, or if this is permanent, or if this is just subject to another call-up at any time?

As you know, I have been making a pest of myself on almost every comment I turn in regarding him and how much sense it makes to have a player in his situation playing hockey and not sitting.

Francis has been returned to Springfield and I saw in the transaction section of the Journal's sports page that a defenseman was sent by Columbus to Springfiels also.

John Moore was ssent down yesterday by Columbus and the same day, Ratchuk was sent down to Ft Wayne...

02/15/2011 John Moore (D) Springfield ADD Returned on loan from Columbus (NHL)
02/15/2011 Michael Ratchuk (LW) Springfield DEL Reassigned by Columbus (NHL) to Fort Wayne (CHL)

I got this from the AHL's transactions page, FYI.....

Also, it looks like Ratchuk didnt see any gametime while he was called up... He's either gonna be rusty or itching to get back into game action...

This is awesome! I was hoping to see him play in the Fort the first time he was with the team. Sounded good on the radio but I wanted to see him play too. This team is coming together nicely. Who would've thought it would happen at the beginning/first 2/3 of the season? Definitely not I. Keep up the good work guys. GO KOMETS!

Alan, it's true, but you should know by now there's no such thing as permanent when dealing with an affiliation. He could be gone after tonight's game.

Blake Sebring
Wed, 02/16/2011 - 12:12pm

They'll probably move a forward and keep an extra defenseman. That's traditionally what they have done because it's easier to find a forward than a competant defenseman.

Blake Sebring

I think another factor could be that APod could be in trouble. He can only play one position while Musselwhite can play two forward positions.

JungleMonkey

I think cutting aPod loose would be a bad move. He has far more upside than a few other players that are on the bubble.

Thank you, Blake. It is great news as I remember Michael Franke stating that Ratchuk was the difference maker on the recent southern trip. Bob Chase gave him very high marks also.

I've stated before that the K's needed another defenseman and Ratchuk would be that guy. However it also means that the K's are carrying one or two extra forwards. Frankly, I would send Danko packing first, but, because he is a defenseman, I probably would be hesitant to part with him.

The choices come down to Musselwhite and APod.

I sure understand Blake's reasoning regarding Musselwhite but if it were up to me, I'd keep APod. Sure, I know he's got a lot to learn defensively and may only be able to play one position, but this guy has skills with the puck. He may be the best stickhandler on the team and is a guy that I would have on my radar for next season.

It's just my opinion, and who knows, maybe Mirasty and Ratchuk may get called up or traded by the BlueJacket orgabization and sent somewhere else.

I have to be honest, though. I think Ratchuk may be the final piece to the puzzle!! I am looking forward to the game Friday and to see him on Coliseum ice.

So unless the K's can play the IR game, my choice to waive would be Musselwhite.

It's never easy to give up a good player but when your roster becomes more talented, well, a good player has to go.

I don't know that they will cut APod, I just think he has to be considered, too.

According to CHL transactions, the Komets have waived Neil Musselwhite.

Blake Sebring
Wed, 02/16/2011 - 1:45pm

Just saw that. Well, I think he'll get picked up by somebody.

Alan
Wed, 02/16/2011 - 1:52pm

I totally agree, Blake. Musselwhite is a good hockey player and will get snatched up soon, I bet.

Like I said. When the roster gets this talented and you have to make a decision, well, a good hockey player is going to be let loose.

I beleive A-Pod has a one year contract. Hate to see Musselwhite go.

Vanessa

It's a shame about Musselwhite. I enjoyed watching him on the ice.

JungleMonkey
Wed, 02/16/2011 - 3:13pm

Doesn't everyone have a one year contract that amounts to next to nothing? Unless they are under an AHL contract I don't think minor league "contracts" are worth the paper they are written on. Players can still be waived at any time. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Blake Sebring
Wed, 02/16/2011 - 3:35pm

You are correct.

I think we will eventually regret waiving this kid... Alot of potential, he reminded me alot of Tomas Klempa...
