Rob's wife is starting to put together a scrapbook about him for his daughter.
Why don't we try to collect some memories/thoughts in this thread and I'll combine them and pass them along? 2 years without missing a game.....Iron Man is how i referred to Rob and how i will remember him.... i think everyone had a tremendous amount of respect for him because of his Iron Man status.
I have a funny story about Guinn that could be added. Here it is:
I was a sophomore at IPFW when I became a hardcore Komets fan, even though I'd been going to games my entire life. I went to every game that season (2004-2005). At IPFW, I took the same route to my classes every day and somehow always managed to follow a tall man to the Science building. He was always very polite and courteous, holding the door open for me and exchanging polite conversation. Everytime we spoke, it occured to me that he looked familiar but I could never figure out where I knew him from. One day, I happened to wear my bright orange Komets t-shirt. As always, I fell into step behind the tall man and followed him to the Science building. As he held the door open for me, I saw a knowing grin cross his face. He pointed to my shirt and said, "Nice shirt." I hesitated at his words, then finally said in a moment of clarity, "You're Rob Guinn, the Komets defenseman, aren't you?" He laughed and affirmed that he was, and for the rest of the semester, we followed the same route to the Science building, discussing the most recent Komets game or miscellaneous hockey news. Whether he was playing hockey, attending college, or interacting with fans, he always gave 110%, no matter what. I will always respect him for that.
