David Franke said the Komets put Jason Kean on a non-roster list to free up space they thought they might need on injured reserve. Each team is limited to four players total on the injured reserve lists, a 7-day, 10-day, 14-day and 21-days. This is a 45-day non-roster spot which is new this season, and since Kean has already been out for 66 days, he can be activated at any time.
As for David Ambler of Adirondack, he has asked to be waived through the UHL so he can leave the league.

I have no idea. Neither did David Franke.
My guess he has a deal in the ECHL or LNAH but that would be a guess. Blake could the K's still claim him on put him on the team suspension list?
I'm not sure. All that would do would be to prevent him going where he wants, and would it really be worth it? Who knows, there might be a family issue or something like that as well. I also don't know how many people you are allowed to have on a team suspension list, and the Komets have been known to use that spot as a cap relief maneuver.

Blake I enjoy the article with Michael. I also like the way you questioned him about the AHL. I know the Komets as a whole are still frighten away since the disaster of the IHL, but I to think the Fort could support an AHL team. Interesting about the ticket pricing to. Nice job and I really like the format with a Q & A. Maybe you can do it with the players also.

I've been a Komets fan since 1962. In 1998 I transferred to Florence South Carolina. One time home of the Pee Dee Pride of the ECHL.
For the first few seasons the team did O.K. However after the newness wore off so did attendance year after year. College Football and Basketball High School Football and basketball, College recruiting, THEN, comes NASCAR. The NBA and the NFL even have a hard time getting air time on local sports networks. Newspaper coverage is dismal at best! We haven't even discussed how the warm weather affects hockey in the south.
I believe that you have to eliminate the teams with dismal attendance. All they are doing is diluting the league they are in. Survival of the fittest... Fewer teams means better stocked teams mean better games which mean better rivalries, better attandance, you get the picture. I believe minor league sports has to stop putting teams in cities just because they have a building.

That answers one of my questions. I guess that's one of the many reasons why the Frankes own a hockey team and I don't.

The AHL is a better, faster league, to be sure. But how many casual fans would really be able to tell the difference? You would lose what control you have over the returning players and the Komets use that to build fan interest.
But probably the MAIN reason the Komets will never go to the AHL: The NHL parent team supplies Coach, Players, Trainers, etc in total (or at least) the vast majority. Right now, David Franke, ONE OF THE OWNERS OF THE KOMETS, is in charge of player procurement. If an AHL team came in here, and you are David Franke ... what's your job?
Plus, in the immortal words of Mike Lange, "We've seen that fish (the IHL)before."
And really as a fan who wants a winning team, you want somebody local to have control of that because NHL clubs don't always care about winning. How much fun would it be to see your best players get called up during the playoffs?
Ive thought about this since I have become a Komet fan when I moved here in 2002. I dont have a solid opinion one way or another, but you have to ask: Would you rather have a top teir team in a lower league, or a mediocre team in a higher league? We may not be top teir this year, but I still think we are respected.
i have been to a couple of ahl games,what saw was less hitting and less working in the corners than the uhl. the ahl was faster
and had a little better passers. i want the komets to stay right here in the good old uhl.and i hope the frankies make a ton of money,so they can keep the komets.new owners might not care as much.
Komets get to play regional teams. Most of the away games are within good driving distance. Ticket prices are kept down. I wouldn't sacrifice all this just to see the next level up in hockey. Talent is just a part of why the Komets are fun. Competition is the biggest key, something we can get here in the UHL. I glad the Komets are in the UHL.
We don't need to goto the AHL to get better hockey. This league needs to make rule changes to be more fan friendly. If they discarded the Veteran rule keeping the salary cap the same not only would players stick around longer because they can if would build up rivalries with other clubs because they would keep players also not haveing to dump them because they are going into vteran status the next year.
Charlie you are reading my mind. I've written that several times but everybody is worried about teams breaking the salary cap then.

Personally, I don't think there's truly any way to enforce the salary cap. Brendan was right in that everybody suspects everybody else, but you can't prove it unless a player admits it and that will never happen.
Is getting players jobs in the summer against the rules? Wouldn't have to pay them much if they had those jobs. I think Quad City did that a few years ago didn't they?
