JungleMonkey--You are intitled to your feelings and opinions that is for sure. But are you really being fair to Michael Franke? He has a lot of responsability to protect the players regardless of how much we may dislike them. That is what he did and Big Snake just let him know he appreciated his efforts. Should something have happened that could have gotten very ugly very quickly the lawsuits would have rolled. Let me say it this way..I am not fond of Robin Big Snake. Not even a little bit. I sure don't want anything to happen to him or any other player off the ice that reflects on the Komets. I am pretty sure you don't either. That is just my opinion.

Too bad Al didn't wake up from his nap during the first period and put Blair Stayzer and Keith Rodger in the game.....this whole thing would have been settled on the ice with Big Fake and Goon Master and Brad MacMillan wouldn't have been put in that position to protect his teammates. What exactly was Nick Boucher doing in this video? Couldn't he have at least skated over and gave Shaf a hand?
Thanks for posting the videos, Hit....they show how well orchestrated this all was. See how these guys held PC back so no one could get to Shafranov? Man, this was so well-planned out, and had to come from their coach. What a bunch of....wow, I have never, ever seen anything this low-down and dirty in my life as a hockey fan, and hope never to see it again. Muskegon and their coach should be ashamed of themselves and the Komets should be proud of the way they came together as a team and protected one of their own, no matter that it earned a suspension. Could it have been handled differently? Sure. Were tempers running high? You bet. Al Sims did not seem to be overly upset by what Brad did, although I know he's bummed to lose him for 10 games. I'm sure he's just more disappointed to know that he's playing against a coach who will play like this. So am I.
And can someone confirm for me....is it just the linesmen who are allowed to break up a fight, which is why the ref was just standing over watching Shaf get pounded when he was attacked like that?! Also, is Shafranov ok?

Here is the Schrock and Dipace fight....the original scrum that made Kromm decide to send out the Goons and try to injure Chaulk and Shafronov. Does anyone here think that this scrum warrants what came next by Big Snake and Lawmaster? I sure don't.

Shaf is fine.
The referee is not supposed to get involved because he has to be able to say what else might be happening on the ice at the same time in case another altercation starts.

Thanks, Blake. At least that makes me feel better about this whole mess. And thanks for clearing up the ref/linesman duties as well. I appreciate that, although I wish the ref could have stopped the beatdown sooner....it was painful to watch!!!

Anyone know if a player is suspended in the IHL if the team is penalized as well? (Will we have to skate with 18 skaters while Mac serves his 20 games?) That would be a huge blow, especially with a few other players available or soon available.

He cannot be replaced on the 20-man active roster. So basically, all 19 guys who are on the roster will play.

BLB, I thought it was just the traditional pairing off of players when P.C. was grabbed. During fights, the players not involved often pair off to prevent a "third man in" from occurring. Normally, that's something neither side wants. When a fight gets out of hand, its supposed to be the linesmen who take care of it.

I have no issue with Mr. Franke "protecting" the Muskegon players from the crowd. Barracades were placed. Extra security was also there. I commend Mr. Franke for that.
"Protecting" is one thing. Shaking the man's hand after he just jumped the heart and soul of your hockey team with an intent to injure him is a completely different thing in my opinion.

I want to take a moment to say "thanks" to RunningKomet for the kind words he posted on "More of the altercation". Keep blogging, RunningKomet. Your opinions are important. Also on "More of the altercation" Blake posted something about not being able to comment on my "books" to Hit Somebody!!!. I read that and I laughed out loud, Blake. I thought it was humorous. Hit Somebody!!!, I don't know that I agree with everything you posted, but I admire the passion it took to convey your opinions. Good job!..... for those who wondered why Michael Franke and Big Snake shook hands after the game...after the players were assessed their game misconducts they wanted to go into the arena to watch the rest of the game. The Komets said "no", placed a policeman in front of the dressing room door to keep them in AND keep any frenzied fan out. The Komets made the professional move by protecting everyone. Seems like a logical and prudent move to me....the real question to me is this. What does Komet management do now? They will learn the fate of all the players involved today. Both Big Snake and MacMillan deserve long suspensions. (No matter what his reasoning, a player cannot leave the bench or penalty box on his own. Compound that action even further by touching an official and you've earned a long suspension. It has to be that way or hockey games will just turn into "chaos"). We have some tough roster moves to make. MacMillans' suspension will complicate this even further as the K's won't be able to replace him on the bench during his punishment. Do the K's continue with their original plan? Or, do they do the "emotional" thing and go out and bring in a couple of "tough guys"? If they bring in a couple of enforcers then the roster cuts are going to be deeper and harder than before. I really don't know which way is best right now. If you can find a tough guy that can really play, then maybe they should do it. (But if it were that easy to do, why didn't they do it before now?) This has gotten real interesting and I will be curious on how David Franke handles it....... Sorry for the "book." Lots of thoughts, so little time.

I think its still early and we will see a lot of fighting, guys are still trying to lock in their spot on the teams, it will tone down in december, it usually does. When was our last brawl that got out of hand, Elmira with that psycho maslonka pounding on a defenseless Hansen.

If you thought Mac threw the linesman around, just look at it from this angle. As the linesman approaches, Mac swerves to avoid him and uses his arm to move him away and in turn the linesman gets directly in between he and Lawmaster which makes his skates hit the skates of both players which sends him flying. Meanwhile, Big Snake manhandled the other linesman, and made the cut-throat gesture to our players as well. My opinion on this is my own and I will not say any more to avoid conflict of interest. Just wanted you all to know there is a different video of the action.

Junglemonkey--You get no argument from me. We may have a different opinion about shaking hands when a person is thanking you for your efforts to protect them. While I have a real honest dislike of Robin Big Snake. The offer of thank you has to be take as a serious offer of appreciation from one professional (that can be debated in Robin's case) to another. That was my only point. I say that because I have been there and done that. Mutual respect has to be acknowledged.

Great observation KOMETSPA.. Mac didn't toss the linesman. He clearly tripped. Give Mac his 10 games for leaving the box and let him back at Lawmaster. Watching that clown beat on Shaf makes me sick to my stomach.

Me too, Jungle Monkey. I can't watch that part of the video. And I still have to say that it totally looks to me like PC is really trying to get to Shaf to help him out. Ed (my normally mellow husband) totally thinks so as well, and he normally will take most any opportunity to disagree with me. Actually, he's the one who noticed it and pointed it out to me. But, maybe we're reading too much into it, heck, I don't know. I just know that I'm proud of my Komets for defending as best they could, and I don't think this could have gone any differently....circumstances being what they were. Muskegon acted very unsportsmanlike, many of them, at any rate, starting from the coach. Disgraceful.

BLB, I didn't say he wasn't. I don't really know what his intentions were. It did look like he was struggling with the guy a bit. I just said that it would be normal for one of the Muskegon players to try to prevent him from getting involved.
