The Komets believe Rockford goaltender Scott Dickie should be ineligible because the UHL rules say a third goaltender should be an amateur without any pro experience. The IceHogs say the rule says it just has to be an amateur, and there are no other stipulations.
Dickie played 44 games two years ago with Adirondack, but regained his amateur status by sitting out a year so he could then play college hockey in Canada this season.
It's a loophole in the league rules which will probably be closed this summer. Think the league should be ridiculed for having such a loophole? Maybe, but a lot smarter people have tried to close loopholes on far more important matters and failed. Don't believe it?
Didn't you just pay your taxes?
SUBHEAD: In an emergency
So what would the Komets do if they needed an emergency back-up goaltender? They could not use equipment manager Joe Franke or even Bishop Dwenger product Brian Gratz because they have pro experience and are no longer technically amateurs. They'd have to call a Midwest college to find help.
The league doesn't want teams bringing in ringers to play goal, so you have to limit their ability to bring in goaltenders somehow. I question whether amateurs are the best for the fans, who you are trying to entertain after all with the best quality of your product.
And why should players who have been playing all season have to be cut at the roster deadline? Conversely, teams can sign unproven college players who could have immigration problems. Is that the best talent available for the fans?
No way.

Does this mean that we can tell Frenchy to sit out a year, then go to college and he would regain his amatuer status, thus lose his veteran status..
I know im dreaming here, but still, same diffrence right?
Mark, you can only sit out a year to become an amateur if you are average or uhh...how shall I say..."skills challenged" If you are an All-Star like St. Pierre you don't get to use the "etch-a-sketch" on your resume! Oh, my bad! I forgot about broken political promises and stuff like that! I wonder if I could.....ah, never mind!
Who cares about the goalie? Let them use the guy. Do you really want to win a series that way? Force them to use a regular skater in goal. Wow, what an accomplishment. That would really enhance the Komet name.
Do we own Milam's rights for next year, if he elects to play in the UHL?
Yes
I think Milam is gonna be a great player in the UHL if he elects to come back here, I hope he does...
The premise is good. The rule the way it is written is flawed. I believe rosters should be expanded so that the teams could carry a third goalie all year if they wished. That way the "emergency goalie" can be someone on the roster all year.
I'm with Skate though, Rockford is in trouble if they gotta go with Dickie, he struggled the other night, lets hope he still has the case of the jitters and he gets smoked again...
GO KOMETS
I'd worry less about Dickie and more about finding a way to get butts in the seats tomorrow. LOL
Doesn't matter who they put in goal, we just have to play OUR game. The UHL is still a work in progress, fix the problem and move on, besides that Martinson will find something else to whine and cry about.
Scott Dickie is going to be a good goalie probably at a level above the UHL before he is done. He was highly regarded when he played with Kitchener. His teams had Mike Richards and Derek Roy both of whom are already decent NHL players.
He has been thrown into an impossible situation right now. He went back to college in his hometown to start his education and play hockey and now gets on a team he knows nothing about right in the middle of the playoffs.
Now you could say, lucky for him to have the chance and I agree. I don't know how well he will do this series but you heard it here first, this guy if he keeps his head on straight will be at LEAST in the AHL within the next two years. He actually has already played a couple of games there.
To back up my point of how well thought of he is Dickie was taken in the 2nd round, 32nd overall in 2001 AHEAD of guys like Peter Budaj (avalanche goalie)Michael Garnett (thrashers goalie)Martin Gerber(hurricanes goalie) Ray Emery (senators goalie) Cristobal Huet (canadiens goalie) and a whole host of skaters already in the NHL
My point is, if the Komets beat him, they aren't beating some scrub.
arrrghhh scratch the last post. I had the wrong column. I was correct on his junior team (saw him play several times) but incorrect on his draft position
Here folks. Read this and you will see that why I of course want the Komets to blitz him, I have high hopes for Dickie. He is the kind of a kid everyone can with well.

Anything else Tony? just kidding...thanks for the info
Nah. I shouldn't have tried to do research with a 102 fever lol. Y'all know I pull for the OHL guys to do well.
Its the playoffs, you're down 2 games to one. Anything goes. If the goalie is ineligible base upon rule interpretation, then hes out. I have no problem with forcing them to pull a skater out of the lineup and serving as a goalie. We had to play by the rules in the Campbell-Frawley matter. Its the pros, we're not here to be "nice guys". You know wher nive guys finish !
IT's also kind of like politics, do anything to throw your opponent off thier game by worrying about something they may not be able to control. Besides, it kind of takes the focus off how badly the K's have been playing lately by having people research this golie thing
