* Kevin Reiter has signed to be a goalie coach in Italy.
* Justin Hodgman left Sunday to play in Finland.
* Luciano Aquinio is on a 30-day tryout contract in Germany and is almost assured of signing a long-term deal because he's playing so well.
* Tom Lawson is trying to become a firefighter.
* Fredric Korduner and Eric Yngwe have both signed their training camp agreements. The Komets believe they can invite Stanislav Dzakhov to camp under CHL rules, but he's leaning toward playing one more year of juniors in the USHL.
* Artom Podshendyalov has not sent his contract in yet, but the Komets are working on his immigration.
* David Franke said he has not talked to Brandon Warner, but Warner can come to training camp if he chooses.
* The Komets are now looking at around 30 players for training camp with room for others who come down from AHL camps later.

SM-Liiga has really grown their talent pool within the past 5 years. I've even seen people say it's slightly better than the AHL and is THE league to play in overseas outside of the KHL. Should be a great expierence for Hodgy...Best of luck to him
I'm probably reading into this wrongly, but it almost seems just from some of the vibes and how short the comments are that BW may have some bitterness still about being left off the roster last postseason. I'm not saying that's the case at all, just that's how it seems to me.
tough noogies.
BW has been skating and scrimmaging with all the pros in town at canlan thru out the week
Why invite him? Seems to me that there are already enough better defensemen signed now that he won't beat anyone of them out. Sign young players to see what you might get. You already know what you get with BW. Not much at all.
When will the komets sign an enforcer besides schrocky. Looks like Evansville got theirs. 6' 5" big man, komets will need to sign someone that would be able to handle him in front of the net. In this division of hockey you never know when a melee may break out need to be able to protect your scorers!
I'm always happy to see new information and I am grateful to Blake to provide these updates.
This was one of those "updates in reverse" kind of threads as it told us who wouldn't be a Komet this year instead of who may.
Twenty-two are on the roster plus the two kids who have been offered a tryout spot makes twenty-four. Two goaltenders will probably get invited to make it twenty-six. Sounds as if Podshendialov will come so that makes twenty-seven. That leaves three places left for the scoring forwards that David Franke said he was working on.
Unless these guys are signed and not announced or are signed but will attend an AHL camp first to determine where they will be playing, I'd say things are getting a little tight.
I'm pretty sure that Warner will not be a part of this team. I'm just kind of reading in between the lines. The way David Franke said "he can attend camp if he chooses to" doesn't seem like a ringing endorsement.
I'm glad that Blake closed with "MORE LATER". MORE is exactly what we need.
Hodgman will be here in Jan.
Yes we need an enforcer for the 1 or 2 times that Sgroi will actually be on the Ice. We're fine!
Sgroi "played" on 14 different teams in 5 years.
I read the BWs thing a totally different way....it to me sounds like Franke knows that he is not a fan favorite so he is not endorsing him by signing him officially in a press release......but it allowing him an opening into training camp just the same.
Making it so BWs can make this team.....but all most like Franke is looking the other way while he is added to the roster so no onw can say....see, I told you so that you would bring him back too.
I have said sense the end of the season he would be back....
To me, this proves it.
This would complete this summer of retreads and promises of new younger hungrier, different, and scoring type of players.
Instead.....we get the same old crew minus 2 or 3 guys.
How does this make you guys feel?
"we plan on bringing in 4 guys from last season"
phew.....yea right......as if.
I agree things are getting tight. When you say that there are still 2 months until the start of the season it still seems like a long way off. but instead look at it as less then 9 weeks or 61 days, it seems a little shorter. And tighter. And I take it the hockey season in Finland ends 2-3 months before the CHL season. Either that or Hodgy will get home sick and he will be looking for a place to play to finish out the season.

Look at the 07-08 season =pretty good numbers.
I still see 6-7 better defensemen than BW on the roster now. The one thing that just irritated me the most last year was BW and PC passing the puck with no zip and it getting deflected or stolen by the other team. You can't have finesse passes all the time and thats what they always did. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
I agree that there are at least 6-7 better d-men on this team signed all ready. Totally agree.
But does that mean anything when it comes right down to it?
Remember this:
BWs has extra value because he can skate as a forward too.
LOL
You know it is coming.
Be prepared.
Dust off your #9 jerseys boys and girls.
Put him at goalie. We need a 4th stringer. Or is he the 30 goal forward that we have been praying for? The Messiah has returned.
Hmm, if BW comes back, maybe that will get folks off of PC's case! lol
Not gonna happen......
If PC wants fans off his back, its up to PC to get them off...
This makes me sad. Plain and simple. This off season is NOTHING like I was hoping for... I hope I am wrong.
Wait until late Sept. & early Oct.=you will be happy :)
Why....will Notre Dame still be undefeated?
cmon guys just wait till x mas this team ALWAYS stars out slow. They will figure it out by then :)
There really should be pre-christmas prices and post christmas prices for Komet tickets.
Thats not gonna happen this season, remember???
David Franke said they are only bringing back 4-6 players from last seasons squad and they are looking to go younger and more agressive out of the blocks...
Remember???
:)
Glad to see Reiter, Hodgman and Aquino have found opportunities for this season. I thank and appreciate their past service wearing the Orange and Black.
I look forward to watching the future stars of this team develop this season.
Really snuff? Future stars?
Leo
Warner
PC
Chaulk
Lapointe
Frankie
Schrock
so on and so on.
You really think they are going to actually allow any of those young stars play here?
Hit...
Warner has not been signed. If he does I'll comment on it.
Frankie and Schrock are young emerging AA stars. Lapointe...potential.
The others.... you know my opinion on them.
Your list even with Warner is a small portion of the roster. I think some surprises will emerge from the young players already signed and I don't believe they are done looking for more.
He was invited to camp..I just read the invitation.
And he has been reportedly been skating with the Komets in town.
Oh Krap...just had a thought....doesn't our buddy Brian skate with the Komets too??
LOL
I don't think Warner is half as bad as people make him out to be nor is he half as good as his hypers think he is.
I'd take him as a 7th D-man/extra forward but that is about it. If he is willing to play that role then he can be a valuable asset. But if they can find someone better than him to fill that spot I'd be just fine with it.
They don't lose anything by inviting him to camp.
I agree 100% with Snuffs first sentence.
