Tailing the Komets

Some notes

* Rookie center Travis Whitehead will not be with the Komets on Friday as he goes home for a funeral.

* Here's what the lines look like so far:

Colin Chaulk, Konstantin Shafranov and Matt Syroczynski

Leo Thomas, P.C. Drouin, Evgeny Saidachev

Rick Varone, Travis Whitehead, Vince Laise

Brad MacMillan, Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock, Jimmy Bonneau

Defense

Guy Dupuis, Bobby Phillips

Kevin Bertram, Danko Mironovic

Blair Stayzer, Keith Rodger

Brandon Warner, Matt Woodard

Coach Al Sims said he may move Schrock up to center Varone and Laise this weekend and the defensive pairings will likely be Dupuis and a rookie, Bertram and a rookie and Mironovic and a rookie with Woodard, Rodger and Phillips playing.

Being Hit Somebody!!!, I am trying to figure out what "roster" message this is sending to us....We know 2 guys have to go. 22 are listed here including the goalies.

Looks like Stayzer is a cut and Bonneau? Or maybe Stayzer is being moved into a 19th man position where he can play forward or defense?

Does this mean Warner is hurt, or what?

What does this mean Super Fan?

Yes, that's the question, isn't it?

Stayzer is not getting cut. He'll play forward this week.

I asked Warner today, and he said he feels fine.

We just have to wait and see what they do. In other words, they are not tipping their hand.

The other guy in town is saying that Sims told him that Warner has injured ribs, he also earlier than that reported that Warner's hip was stiff and re-injured. I don't know what to make of that.

The final 2 cuts ought to be interesting.

My guess is they will keep at least 5 rookies on this roster. Coach said the Woodard, Rodger, and Phillips are playing. That is 3. Whitehead.....is he officially signed? If he isn't, then they could logically only cut 1 guy from the roster this week and wait until he comes back next week. OR....... if Warner goes on IR, then this whole thing is a non-issue right now as no one will be cut.

We shall see tomorrow. Dayton was up 7-1 on Evansville in the 2nd after last look. Evansville's bus broke-down on the way to Dayton which caused a delay to the start of the game.

They could get rid of Bertram or Warner or both and it wouldnt bother me... Bertram seemed un-interested most of last season (except when it came time to dye his hair) and Warner is too injury prone.

Bonneau will not get cut=he is a keeper & may get called to AHL

i would have to agree with JR, maybe its time for bert to go.

Bertum was on the ice for both Turner Cup Championship games. He rarely gets beat or is out of position. He doesn't fight like he use to. But than he hasn't had to. Al and David both like to go with proven commodities. I know my head is ready to explode looking at all the posibilities. I think I'll just set back and trust Al to do the right thing. Whatever that is. He hasn't disapointed the "Komet Nation" yet and I don't think he is about to start anytime soon.

Hey everyone, I have it on good authority that today is Andrea's Birthday. !! Happy Birthday Andrea!!.....One of the posts above got me thinking on whom the Komets might like to cut but probably won't. I don't have any info on this but I think if you read between the lines the answer is there.....For some reason I am worried about Whitehead.....I think it is great that the Komets are starting their season in Dayton because it gives the Gems a chance to get some gate receipts right away.....starting the season on the road sure makes the off season seem so much longer though.

Alan - I hope you're wrong, although you tend to be right more than wrong. I think Whitehead would bring a lot to the team offensively from everything I've read about him. I also hope the powers that be don't simply keep people on just because they've been here in the past. While everyone involved greatly appreciates what players have done and the sacrifices they have made in the past, at some point in time upgrades are needed, as is speed and hustle. I'm not going to call any players out by name, but if your prediction ends up being true and our team is being left in the dust while some of our "more experienced" players are huffing and putzing up and down the ice because they played one year too long, I sure hope no one complains too much since we've kept fan favorites.

Again, while you'll probably end up being right, I sure hope Whitehead isn't the one getting the ax.

Thanks for the Happy Birthday wish Alan. You are correct that it is my birthday. Ahh...31 years ago the world was graced with my birth, and it hasn't been the same since...lol. In all seriousness, I appreciate the Happy Birthday. Now, back to hockey. I hope that Whitehead isn't the one to go, even though I haven't seen him play but have heard great things about him, but I'm not too sure what Coach Sims is thinking in regards to finalizing his team. I realize that some think it could be a veteran that goes and that depending on what the IR looks like, depends on what happens. I'm sure this is the part of the pre-season that Coach Sims does not like, but it has to be done. Whomever he decides to have wear a Komet jersey this season was picked for a specific reason. I may never know the reason, but I trust Coach Sims 100%. He is a proven coach who has had proven teams. I am excited for this season, and counting down the days until Oct. 23. I'm ready to cheer on the Black and Orange and to see the jungle rockin'. Have a great day everyone!

Holy Cow, my last post was not to suggest that Whitehead would be the one to get cut!! (After re-reading my post I can see why people might have thought that. I didn't do a good job of conveying my thoughts accurately.) No I don't believe Whitehead would be cut at all. I'm sorry if I implied that. That wasn't who I meant when I said we may be able to figure this out if we "read between the lines." The person who would be cut would be a defenseman. I wish I could be more specific but I'm kinda just thinking out loud, so to speak..... as for Whitehead, what I meant was that whenever a player has to leave the team, (personal reasons, family matters, funerals, which are all certainly understandable) I always feel better when he returns and gets back on the ice. I am with you on this, Whitehead may be the biggest addtion the team made this offseason. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I am really looking forward to seeing him on the ice Opening Night.

I just saw that Bonneau was leaving the K's to go back to Rochester and that Brandon Warner was put on the IR. My last post about "reading in between the lines" was directed at Warner. Even though he wasn't cut my reasoning about Warner was because no one seemed to agree what the "injury" was. One day it is reported as ribs, the next day it is reported as a hip injury, the next day it is reported that he is practicing just fine. It just seemed odd to me the kind of information we were given.

Alan: I think the reason people (including yours truly) thought you meant that was because you said "read between the lines" followed by "for some reason I'm worried about Whitehead." How would anyone take it as anything other than that? I understand you were probably changing thoughts from one sentence to another, but since you had them back-to-back with no transition, I think we figured you were continuing with the same thought.

In any event, I do agree with you that I think he's going to be a huge talent for the team as the season goes on. What do you know about Phillips? What type of player is he? I'm clueless on him.

Yes, RunningKomet you're right. The way I constructed my post would have confused anybody. I was changing thoughts but I left it very vague. My fault, indeed. I really don't know anything about Phillips. I am looking forward to Opening Night so we can see exactly what we have.

What did I brown-nose? Game misconduct on Burgee for multiple fouls including, but not limited to: 1) telling everyone else where to go and how long to stay there 2) talking about the grandpa league of slow pitch softball, and 3) brown-nosing mightbite.
