Komets General Manager David Franke said Tuesday the team is open to a possible trade to add more offense, but nothing is imminent. The preference would be for a defenseman who can move the puck. Franke said he believes there's plenty of talent on the roster to contend once everyone gets healthy.
Franke did say the Komets are considering bringing in college or junior players, and the team has been in contact with Turner Cup playoffs MVP Justin Hodgman who has 19 goals and 51 points in 67 games this year with Erie of the OHL. He's also minus-29. Yikes!
"I've talked to him and talked to his agent,” Franke said. “They have a better team this year and they'll get in the playoffs. They know we are interested, and they are somewhat interested. We'll have to see how his season goes the rest of the way.”
If Hodgman joins the Komets this season, he must play six games with the team before the end of the regular season on April 11. The IHL eliminated the amateur status option after last season. The IHL trade deadline is 3 p.m., March 12.
* Olivier Legault may not be ready to play this weekend after injuring a hip in practice on Tuesday. Vince Tarantino's status continues to be day-to-day, but he returned to practice Tuesday, Komets coach Al Sims said.
* The Komets have reviewed the tape of the last-second goal in Kalamazoo on Saturday and say they believe referee Scott Hoberg made the correct call.
"Kalamazoo is so dark and the tape can only be so good, but it looks likeI think the puck went in before the light came on," Sims said. "
* There's been no word from the league yet about any possible discipline regarding the slash Mathieu Curadeau received Friday night.

Blake, the stats on Hodgeman are his stats from 06-07.
He's got 53 points in 54 games and is a -3 this season.
If Coach says it's a goal that is good enough for me. Scott Hoberg may call everything or nothing at all. That's his style. He comes from a good backround. His father taught him well. I will tell you and your readers he is one of the friendliest ref's I get to deal with. He will answer any question you ask explain any call and he never takes it personally.
Any word on who they are going to let go? Leg's comes off IR Wednesday unless they plan on moving him to the 45 day IR since he ran into the goal post..really how hurt can someone get by running into a goal post now days? If that is the case Leg's must be really clumsy. The only d-man i would be interested in is Kris Mallette but he has had the injury bug this season other than that there is not much out there right now on Flint or Bloomington's roster and those are the only teams I can see anyone trading with.
Great, so the website takes you directly to LAST year's stats. Very helpful. Thanks, Tim.
According to David Franke, they don't have to move anyone until Chaulk comes back. By then, someone else may be hurt.
So you can carry 21 active players on the Roster but only dress 18 skaters for a game? 9 Forwards, 6 D-Men, 2 goalies, and 1 extra correct?? I will assume that being correct, I can see where the K's will need to get an extra D-Man because Sims is more than likely to dress a 7-th D-man in the play-off's that could jump up and play forward, example would be Jake Pence. We have too many forwards so they could move one or two of them in a trade, but to get the type of d-man they want they will have to give up quality for that trade. The only problem is that d-man out there in this league? If they bring in a college or junior player he counts against them so to bring someone in they would have to let someone go. That is a little more risky than last year, but if they can get hodgeman more power to them
