Tailing the Komets

Syro called up

He's been called up to Norfolk of the AHL for at least this weekend. They have three games. That means the Komets are at 20 active players on the roster and do not necessarily have to make a move.

Not good news although OC will take his place this weekend?

Good timing for us to evaluate the players

Sad to see him be called up (although it is great for him), but VERY excited for O'Connor. It also gives the rookies more time to make their move. Klempa and Shrock are the stand outs in my mind.

Good for Syro. Hope he makes the most of the opportunity. More time to evaluate the rookies can only be good.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

This has to be a mistake.....only ECHL players get called up to the IHL......right? This is why Kalamapoo Fans were so happy they were joining the ECHL because the talent level is so much better and players there get called up to AHL teams........I think someone needs to investigate this thing....I think he must be taking a vacation or something, no way he is getting called up....not in the IHL.

I could really see him sticking there. a while

Hit,

That did seem rather unusual that an IHL player gets a call up instead of someone in the ECHL....LOL

However, if a player has the skills and talent he is going to get noticed....even if he plays in the IHL.

Good Luck and Congratulations to Matt.

Wanna see something funny? Look what the ECHL is doing trying to paint their attendance figures as though it is superior to the rest of minor league hockey....and they are trying to say that K-Zoo is doing so much better in the ECHL than in the IHL......I will post it in the link, I would love to hear some reaction from you guys....Notice they compare 2 games average in the ECHL to 38 game average in the IHL....the 2 games just happened to be the first 2 home games for K-Zoo in the new to the area ECHL....Funny stuff.

With that logic....the Komets have had a 75% increase in average attendance compared to last season and Bloomington has had a 63% increase.

K-Zoo had a 16% increase.....wooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Imagine this happening year after year right before a playoff run is to begin. That is what you get with an AHL team for those who want one in Fort Wayne.
Good luck to Syro. He might not be back for awhile.

Oh sure, it would be just our luck that he could play in the ECHL all that time and only get short call-ups, then come here, get called up and stick. Good luck to him, regardless. He certainly deserves a real look.

Really, that's what you get with an AHL team? What happened in Quad City last year then. They are already gettng higher numbers then last year with an inferior team.

Good luck to Syro. My own personal opinion is that he will be back as soon as these weekend games are over. If Norfolk has some kind of injury problem, it may be a little longer but the reason for the call-up was never really defined. I have got to think that there is some particular niche that they think Syro fits because he has no connection with Norfolk at all. Some of my reasoning is that last year Curredeau was on a two way contract and spent a lot of time there but rarely played. I think Curredeau is a more gifted skill player than Syro. I am wondering if they just need a "body" and if the whole organization (including their ECHL affiliate) doesn't have a roster problem. We'll see. Good luck to Syro though. Hope he does well and progresses. I just don't have the same opinion as a few of you that we won't see him for quite a while. I think he will be back next week and then the Komets will finally have to make some decisions and get the roster settled, get the lines set, and the defensive pairings set so the team can begin to get stabilized.

I concur, I estimate alans last post at 176 words, a new blog record!

G_Hockey,
My point was, that as soon as one of your best players gets hot, it becomes a day to day "will he or won't he get called up" watch.
My point was fans of AHL teams pour their hearts and money into a season only to watch it get impacted at the end by a call up.
So your point that Quad Cities is doing better now makes my point for me. Quad Cities fans probably didn't like watching their best players shuffle in and out of the city all season.

Sorry Burgee. Didn't mean to bore you. At least one good thing came out of it. Now we know that your attention span does exceed 176 words. Congratulations........special note to RunningKomet. C'mon back and blog. We miss your thoughts and opinions.

I've written it before and I'll write it again, if my comments are too tough to stay with, too long for your concentration level, or too much of a waste of time-just skip them. I don't have a problem with that at all! Here is a little prediction for you all before the roster gets "settled". I am going to predict that Shrock gets cut, Warner gets cut, and either Stayzer or Saidachev gets cut.

I don't know, have to think about that one.

JR

I would agree Alan... I will say, however, that I wonder if they have it in them to cut both local kids? I would stay with the younger d-men, let Sadiachev go (hasnt impressed), let Warner go (injury prone), keep Stayzer (versatility), and throw in Bertrams name for waive consideration (injuries catching up w/him).... Regardless, there are gonna be some names hitting the road that will leave some sections of the Komet faithful unhappy...

Alan--Never quit writing what you feel and/or believe. Your perceptions and opinions are as worthy as mine or anyone else. You simply need to get a little tougher skin. Never take anything on here personal. Once you get there you will end up in the penalty box with me and will be deemed a really good guy! Like your not already! If you think it write it. Those who don't like it will tell you. Some in just, some serious buy oh well that's life on a blog. Long or short they are all a joy to read. Trust me on this "I agree with about as many as I disagree with"! Your a good guy and you know it. After that who cares.

Alan would definitely win the Lady Byng if they handed it out to bloggers. And I do mean that as a compliment. I know actual hockey players find winning the LB a bit embarrassing.

I think maybe Syro was called up b/c Whitehead is sick this week. Sims stated in his interview w/Wane tv that Whitehead might not be available this weekend b/c of his illness. Could be Syro might stay in Norfolk only until Whitehead is feeling well.
