Tailing the Komets

Thomas may be at practice tomorrow

Komets General Manager David Franke said the team is talking with forward Leo Thomas and may have him signed in time for practice tomorrow. There is currently no contract signed.

"We've been looking at Leo ever since he got waived by Bloomington last week," Franke aid. "We felt right now that we needed a little bit more offense and that's why we're going after Leo."

As for the Komets' need for defensemen, Franke said, "Everybody is always looking for defensemen and we're looking also. Leo is a very talented kid and we need a second-line center. When Curadeau gets back and Shafranov gets back then we'll have to make some decisions, but that's is down the road. We're adding some offense and we're adding speed to the team. Leo is a very good skater with a lot of speed. That will be a nice element to our team."

The veteran had four goals and six points in nine games with Bloomington this season. Last year he had 21 goals and 62 points in 71 games with the PrairieThunder.

Thomas does have great skating skills and speed and he had good stats going for bloom. this season so why did they let him go? is it that he has a bad attitude in the locker room makes you wonder why they would cut him when they are already towards the bottom of the standings huh!!!again though we need d-men why do we keep spending money and spots on our team for forwards when we have fowards now that are not even getting regular line shifts, like macmillan for instence. lets use the forwards we have and get d-men and yes i keep reading that d-men are hard to find and get right now but come on if we can go and find a forward and pull him out of a two year retirement (Lewis) then im sure we could do the same with some past d-men (Gagnon) too... or maybe make trades, wow now theres an idea!!!!! i mean when our 3rd best d-man on the team this year is a foward (pc) then you know you have "D" problems.

I think cutting Thomas was a quick way to clear some cap space for a solid stay at home Dman. He is definitely better than some of the c/f's we kept, but maybe not for the money.

I have confidence that the Franke's are looking high and low for D-Men right now. In the mean time we are VERY thin scorers and Thomas has shown the ability to put the puck in the net. He has scored over 21 goals and 100 PIM per season over the last three seasons with Flint, Laredo, and Bloomington. I know from watching him play that he is a very speedy skater. I am sure if he does not fit in with the team he will be let go. Right now I am willing to give just about anything a try to get things turned around.

This is the funniest thread I have participated in. I should visit more often. priceless! Re: Thomas. He will hit people; he's fast; he scores; and he gets in the other team's head. He does take some dumb penalties. What I think it came down to was the need to free up some dollars.

Nice job Jerad on breaking the story!

I would welcome Leo here in a heartbeat. He is fast, and knows how to put the puck in the net. Plus he also can drop the gloves if needed. I think he would be a welcome addition to the team.

I agree we do need some D, but I don't think we are going to find anyone, or we would have to give up to much in a trade to get someone. Just my two cents.

On a side note, anyone else see that Aquino bolted to Europe?

Hope everyone is having a good week. Welcome to the board bloomingtonfan.
