"Sims would like to see each player perform stronger defensively, and they have started to over their last 10 games."

I guess I don't quite understand or agree, not sure which. Seems to me the problem is scoring goals and pulling into a more defensive system isn't going to cure that, or is it?

I'm sorry Blake, but to me this comes off as a "company line" type of story. People who really follow the game, bloggers and STH's to name two groups, are long past wanting to hear hollow platitudes by the players and coach. Proof is what we need. And soon. Our "top line" is killing the team both offensively and defensively. Talk is cheap. After 16 games it's time, in grade school vernacular, to put up or shut up.

Exactly. That's why I did the story. I thought it would be interesting to hear what they had to say.

Coaches in my past always taught me that if the problem is deemed mental then you have to work twice as hard physically to pull yourself out of the rut. If you over analyze the problem you will start to create problems in other area's of your game and compound the problem. IMO, scorers that are having a problem scoring is more a work ethic problem than them just forgetting (mental) how to score. They no longer work as hard to get into good positions to shoot the puck or pick up rebound goals. I think this is what coach Sims may be referencing when he says they need to work harder on the defensive end. He's trying to get them to concentrate on something other than thier offensive woes by getting them to ceoncentrate on other facets of the game. Play good defense, take the body, work hard and the breaks will come...

My 2 cents...

Great point there JR 1 !!!

Could be JR, let's hope so and hope it works.

So what are opinions on this weekend's games?

Wichita isn't that good and their at home record is on the winning side but barely. Depending on where the Komet's heads are at this should (reiterate should) be a win for them. Wichita has an awesome coaching staff, they could get real hot or be a real contender next season. If they are taking the Komets for granted that may help us also but I think McClelland will do all he can to keep that from happening.

Quad City should also be a win. The primary difference between the Komets and these two teams could be nothing more then games played.

Missouri is a tougher team but can also be beaten at home but the Komets will have to be hot to do it, especially third game in three nights.

I'd be happy to see two wins and four points out of it. Sadly, even if they win all three they'll still be in last place, but right behind several teams point wise.

I think the more relevant question for this weekend is what team is going to show up for the Komets?

Steve

After one period and being down 2-0, losing two of three fights, and Wichita on a 5 on 3 power play I guess that's not to hard to figure out. Frustrating........

Well guys, after that first period.....my question is how much longer do we go before we start hurting feelings here. If this lasts the whole game, guys need to go. That was another period of hockey where the Komets looked like they didn't belong on the ice....maybe we need to drop down to the AAHL......

The topline is the problem. They aren't performing. They suck pure and simple, and I don't see it getting better at this point.

What is Curadeau's deal? Anyone have a guess? He is not the player we had before, not even close. Hope no one cries for me saying that. It is the truth up to this point. PC LEO CURDY.....they need to step it up....or Coach needs to split them up again and either make some changes with the roster or get the lines squared away.

Tired of hearing these guys say: "I am down in the dumps, struggling getting out of it" PC said it just now on Bob's interview.

It is time for put up, or leave.

Sorry.

Only positive:

Schrock beat the leaving tar out of Lance Galbraith.....not even close. Total domination. Find the video on that one....check point streak live. It should have it.

He smoked him.

Pointstreak has 4 fights...

Fort Wayne - Kaleigh Schrock - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 14:07
Fort Wayne - Olivier Legault - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 14:14
Fort Wayne - Craig Cescon - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 14:20
Fort Wayne - P.C. Drouin - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 18:26

Did one of those not actually happen and pointstreak screwed up?

Steve
Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:21pm

Agree with both posts Hit. They look worse tonight then they have the last few games, it's pathetic. They're playing like it's first or second game, and they are having trouble keeping up.

uhggg.. We suck.

Positive Patties......tell me how this is going to get any worse now???

5-0 in the 2nd period.....great job Komets.

Time to drop the guys who are not efforting.

Steve
Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:24pm

Yes. GM, Drouin didn't have a fight or any major penalty, at least not yet. Pointstreak is wrong.

5-0 Wichita, changing goalies now. Not sure how much more of this I can watch. Think I'll start mixing martinis......

Steve

I'm really glad this is happening on the road......

There's postive patties left? Oh..right...they only come around after a win. That'd be why we haven't seen them....

Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:29pm

Did I just see 5-0?!!! No! I can't even look at pointstreak anymore. I feel angry for the few guys out there who are still giving their all!!!! I need drinks...alot of them.

Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:33pm

oh it will be ok.. Just a slow start. Komets have started slow many years and turned it right around. Jeez.. like this is any time to hit the panic button or anything.....

All you pessimistic people who call yourselves fans.. How can you call yourself a fan and not believe this is simply a slow start?

"Positive patty" enough for you?

I am new to these blogs, what does its not Christmas yet mean? New players? Fill me in. Give me something to look forward to...or at least have hope again.

LOL GM, unfortunately we have heard that before, haven't we.

Relax, we have them right where we want them.

Interesting things said by McClelland before the game. Sounded a lot like Sims and saying things like the Komets need to relax and have fun to start winning. On paper and considering experience he felt they are a team to take seriously. Wonder if we can get him to make some trades??

komets123
Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:45pm

I think the time for correcting this team may be coming to an end. At some point it seriously becomes too late. Think about how much of the season is gone already. Top teams in the league have their lines set. Locker room issues all in check. Systems running well. Mid-season form about to kick in.

Meanwhile, Komets are bottom of the barrel and have to change many many things on their team in order to begin to experiment with it. When and if they find a combination that works, they will be a half a season behind the top contenders. So, if we manage to make the final spot for the play-offs we will be seeded against a juggernaut that has all wheels full ahead...

Maybe it is the negative nellie in me talking, but I do not like the odds at this point.. I think all the negative talk early on should have been listened too more closely. B/c now are dangerously close to a point of helplessness IMO..

The "It's not Christmas yet" line is in reference to those who have said all along not to worry because the Komets always start slow and pick up at Christmas...Except that's not going to work in this league but the Positive Patties seem to not be able to comprehend that

since we cant talk about who scored since its not happening.....but i saw somebody said komets got whipped in 2 out of 3 fights???? So cescon and legs got beat????

JB
Fri, 12/10/2010 - 9:48pm

Don't have Fort Wayne cable, so I am only listening, and it is still making me sick. 5 to 0 after two periods. Reiter in now for battle weary and shell shocked Boucher. May give up on the game and see if there is anything worthwhile on TV. It's gonna be a looooooooooooooooooong season!
