They seriously need to consider cutting back this schedule. Are you still confident the Komets are going to win the regular-season title? Do you care or is it playoff championship or nothing for you?

Gotta say that I'm not really all that concerned about the regular season championship. I mean it would be great and all, but the only thing that really matters to me is the Championtrip.
I think over the next couple of weeks the K's will find out how they stack up against the Muskegon's and Port Huron's both clubs are getting healthy and I think we will be able to see how each other match's-up against each other. It will be interesting to see if Woods adds anything to the club and when Huk comes back what roster moves that will have to be made. I find it interesting that Coach Sims has rotated Rodgers and Woodward as the healthy scratch. I have noticed that it has seem to spark Rodgers phyiscal play of late and does it mean those two are fighting for that spot? I agree Blake I think they play to many regular season games. With a play-off system I never thought the regluar season amounted to much other than fighting for "home" ice advantage which I think has become over rated. Any way I think the toughest decisions of the year are approaching and someone that is talented and of value is going to be disappointed.
I can remember when the regular season schedule was 82 games (with 1990-1991 being 83 games) and more recently, one season in the UHL having 80 games. so I don't have too much issue with the length of the schedule.
Having said that, I think the light schedule this weekend is almost like the bye week in the NFL and it also helps that each team is not going to play three games in three nights every weekend because of their being 7 clubs.
It was a nice break to be home tonight and get some homework out of the way and watch the Barret-Jackson Collector Car Auctions on Speed TV....even though I enjoy my antique car project, it would be really nice if I could afford some of those classic cars!
First or worst, don't care about reg season, just want to make the playoffs and win the cup
Blog foul: I'm with Burgee. :)
Rodger? Cut? No way. Guy is awesome. It's gonna be Woodard or Varone...considering Mitch is an offensive player, I'd cut Varone...guy was awesome last year, but hasn't found his niche this year.
Obviously the playoffs are the important thing, but I think it would be a very big step in that direction if the team could start beating Port Huron and Muskegon on most nights. If they can do that, the regular season title would probably come along with it. I realize that the two don't always go hand-in-hand, but my feeling is that if the Komets are going to win again, they will win both.
I don't believe that the regular season schedule is too long in terms of games played. I would like to see them either start later in October or schedule more games early in the schedule. It seems every year the K's start by playing a game or two, then having a week off, then playing a game, then another week off. Playing two or three games earlier in the year would help eliminate some of the three games in three nights or eight games in twelve days kind of schedule we always find later in the year........most people remember the playoff champion, not the regular season champion. Still, the regular season championship is important. I'm sure happy that the third overtime in the seventh game of the Turner Cup Championship was played at the Coliseum instead of Port huron.
Man, that's like asking if I want my hear to beat or my lungs to process oxygen....too hard to answer, Blake! And could they please get the regular season to include the summer? I really miss hockey when it's gone.... :(
Oops, I meant "heart" to beat....my bad.
Hey, I had a question....if someone is a +5 in one game, then a +3 their next, do you average those games out and the player is then a +4 for those 2 games? I'm only just now starting to understand this whole plus/minus thing, so I'd appreciate the help!
Colts 34 Jets 10
I think syro will add alot to what this team was lacking, scoring and another big body in front of the net. Im not real sure where woods will fit in, i hope it all works out but he hasnt played in over a year, besides we already have a couple players that play his style of game.
Its all about the playoffs! in fact maybe they could rest some players down the stretch. im sure that comment might get me 2 for instigating.
GO COLTS!!
Plus-minus measures when you are on the ice for even-strength goals. If you are Plus-5 in one game and then plus-3 in the next, you are plus-8, which would be pretty remarkable. If you are on the ice for a short-handed goal against, you get a minus. If you are on the ice for a short-handed goal for, you get plus. So, if your team scores 5-on-5, you get a plus.
Where is WOWO's Colts coverage??? What is up with that? Their webpage is no help either. Kim Kommando? Really?
+/-
My thoughts....you could do absolutely nothing on the ice to contribute to a goal and get a plus, or a mnus. How is that a fair judge of what kind of player you are?
I have seen D-Men make line changes at the tail end of a scoring play and the guys going off get nothing, the lucky 2 jumping on the ice, get the plus......how is that fair? See my point.
Go Colts!!!
Your plus/minus number is only as good as the players who are on the ice with you. It can also be as bad as the players who are on the ice with you. Should your teammates be the reflection of of what type of player you are?
+/- is one of those stats you either like or dislike and I dont think any amount of discussion can persuade one side or the other to jump fences... I like the stat, others dont... I think its a good gauge to tell what type of player you are or what type of line you are on... If your a 100 point guy who is a plus 30, that indicates to me that you are also responsible defensively and not just a one way player. On the flip side if same player is a -30 then that tells me you could be more of a cherry picker... I do think that you have to look at the career plus minus of a player to more acurately gauge that player because if that -30 player has always had a positive plus/minus then you know that he's stuck on a bad line and or team...IMO
In the end you either like the stat or not...
2x inside the 10yd line for the Colts with only 2 FG's to show for it... That could come back to bite them...
Maybe some of the hype the Jets have been getting has been warranted.?.?.? Jets 14 Colts 6
Jets secondary getting banged up. Colts need to find a way to pick up blitz better to take advantage...
As I write...Colts fumble, Jets get the ball on the Colts 30yd line.
Jets 17 Colts 6
It all matters to me. And I'm with BLB, the season should be longer.
Many years ago the team was struggling, it was mid point of the season, a couple of star forwards weren't producing goals like they should have been. One of these star forwards commented that people shouldn't worry, the team would be fine when the play-offs got here.
I buy season tickets. I've had season tickets for many years and there are several years where I've made it to every home game and several road games. The key here for me is the term "season tickets". That means the whole season to me, not just the playoffs.
I'm happy with a team that's competitive. The Komets' tendency to start out on the slow side and jell after December is OK because in those earlier months they are still competitive. I would get concerned if they were to drop to the bottom ranks of the league but they don't do that so I figure I have less to complain about then many of the fans in the league.
It's great to win the cup and that does mean a lot to me, without a doubt. It's also great to win the title, especially if it's one of those down to the wire finishes where the leader is determined in the last couple of games of the season. That's excitement to me.
Having a great season and winning the cup is great for me, it's what I most like to see. Having a good season and winning the cup is good too, just not quite as good. Having a great or good season and losing in the playoffs is OK also, it means I've seen good season of hockey.
But having a poor season and not making the playoffs or just squeaking in means I may have wasted a lot of money even if by some miracle they were to win the cup (don't think that has ever happened). It's good to be a Komet fan, there have been very few years like that.
As I'm doing this I'm watching Vermont vs Mass, college hockey on ESPNU. Barry Melrose is one of the announcers, he's cracking me up. He can be funny when he wants to be.
I know, the Dolts are on but hey, I'm a hockey fan first, and a Bears fan second.
Wow! That was a long post. Must be the cold medicine I'm on.....
Colts needed that one... Jets 17 Colts 13...
Curious they didnt go for 2 there...
You take the point after there, and if you need the 2 pointer later,, you go get it.
Let's see what halftime adjustments are made.
Go for 2? Why???? It's the first half. Lots of game left. Why panic now???
That drive right there is why they didn't go for 2. Now have a 3 point lead.
Wanna drive SuperFan out of hiding on this Sunday afternoon......???
Let's start a rumor....LOL
I heard he paid $2000 to watch the Colts game in person....wearing his Peyton Manning Jersey and his Steve Fletcher shirt under that one....you know the shirt, the volunteer enforcer shirt......
Peyton going back on offense....this could be the defining moment of the game.
I just saw Superfan on TV, he was the bald guy with all the white paint on his head and face and the beads....
Hoss, I'm not a Colts fan so no panic here... At the time, the way the game was going, going for 2 would have brought them to within a field goal of tying the game and if the miss, they're still a touchdown away just as they were by kicking the extra point... There is no way to tell that the Colts were going to score a TD again (they were inside the 10 twice and only came away with field goals) so getting to within a field goal to tie would have been wise in that position, IMO.
