What a shocker! Komets have A good game and out pops Burgee, who could've seen that one coming? You could knock me over with a feather!

The K's always turn it on around this time. I still don't expect them to rise any higher than 4th in their division, mainly because the other teams will likely have something to say about it. But never mind that for now. The fans can rejoice because Komet Hockey is finally back! :D

GM, I'm glad I don't work with you, your negative attitude would of got you fired long ago:)

Lol... The Komets win 2 games and everyone is ready to annoint them Champs again.

Brad MacMillan is the kind of guy that would have stopped the cheapshots that the Komets faced all night on Sunday.

Who has to get hurt before David Franke will realize the team needs an enforcer? Cescon is too valuable on defense to be the teams enforcer. Likewise with Schrock.

Speaking of defense... It's remarkable that the defense isn't be complained about after this weekend. Oh, wait... the Komets scored.

The Komets are 5th in fewest goals allowed.
Dead Last in goals scored.

Yet people complain about the defense.

Teams are going to take advantage of the Komets lack of an enforcer. If not MacMillan, someone needs to be aquired to play the role. Someone that can skate a shift and actually win fights. If David Franke's ego is getting in the way of bringing Mac back, then the fans are being short-changed.

How wise would it be to bring back a player now who would still have to sit out 9 games? He would miss half of the last half of the season. Then you need to consider how long it has been since he played a game. He played part of one exhibition game this season. That is it. Then he would be watched like a hawk by the CHL refs every time he stepped on the ice. God forbid there be another "incident," but that could be a huge liability. If the K's truly need an enforcer, they need to look elsewhere.

If being a realist is considered being negative, what does that say about this season? Ouch!

JungleMonkey
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 9:24am

Sign MacMillan, let him practice for 2 weeks while he sits out for his suspension and get back in game shape. If thats needed. Mac always worked hard to be in shape. Mac would still be eligible for 25 games to finish the season. So he wouldn't miss anywhere close to "half".

Quick question for anyone who knows this for sure:

If the Komets brought Mac back wouldn't he have to be on the active roster for the nine games he'd need to serve out his suspension? If that would be the case then wouldn't the K's be short a man on their bench for those nine games?

That was the old IHL rule. Is the CHL rule the same?

JungleMonkey
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 11:12am

I'm not sure if they'd play a man short or if they add him and he sits as a healthy scratch, thus using a roster spot but not making the bench short... If that makes sense.

If we skate a man short, then I'd be apt to favor the plan that GM has floated about Mac going to an SPHL team to practice and "serve out" his suspension, then bringing him in after the 9 games are up.

Why would an SPHL want to deal with him and this mess?

Alan
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 11:58am

Not sure that the CHL would recognize the games he sat out in the SPHL anyway. Not an equal or better league.

JungleMonkey
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 1:20pm

The SPHL has a recip agreement with the CHL and ECHL. The CHL recognized the IHL in these type situations.

Money... Thats why an SPHL team would do it. Give em' 5k and let Mac coach up some young guys in mitt-dropping.

I have to go on my instincts, and my instincts say that this team believes it can win games again. I wouldn't expect them to win every night, but they should do respectably from here on out.

Steve

I think it goes back more then one weekend. In the last 10 games they've had six wins, 3 ties, and one loss. Remember, OT/shoot outs are there because the hockey gods decided that for play off/standing purposes they want one team to pick up two points each game. It is still considered a tie, even in the goalie stats.

I understand when you're sitting on the bottom of the league and out of a playoff spot those extra points mean a lot, but they have nothing to do with who won the game.

No doubt they are showing some signs of life. I never thought Al Sims would allow things to continue without adjusting his systems a bit.
Their goaltending can carry them quite a bit but they need to start getting 3 goals a night on a regular basis.

If you understand how history repeats itself.....
Every year, recently, the komets get off to a slow start.
#1 Could be the systems in place are complex and take time for each line to not only understand the system but themselves.
#2, Al Sims, despite opinions is a seasoned coach. He understands a team that peaks early in the season experiences a cool off during the stretch, most important part of the season. Could his ability to lead include keeping the team from peaking until the moment comes to gain steam into the playoffs?
#3 It is understandable to adjusting to a cleaner faster style of play has greatly retarded the usual slow start. Our recent surge is no suprise if you understand recent yearly statistics.
#4 This team undoubtively knows how to lose "together" and now win "together" thanks to the Frankes inability to admit failure. I hate failure too and hide it too. Each win feels like a win now and each loss no longer carries an excuse. The roster has had new faces but the nucleus of years past remains. We are playing with intesity and emotion. A goal excites everyone and everyone is having fun, even Reiter. This team however can enjoy staying hungry because we've caught team #8 in the standings. We're a ladder rung away from the next.

We had a enforcer, in Olivier but David Franke let his ego get the best of him again & got rid of him just like they got rid of Mark Rechlicz. Does Al really want a physical team?

There are still a handful of quality enforcers currently available... including Mac.

Steve
Mon, 01/17/2011 - 9:21pm

Just for the heck of it and because I really don't know, will someone name for me the dedicated enforcer for each NHL team, and for extra points the enforcer for each AHL team, where an enforcer is probably needed more then at the NHL level.

Can't do it? You say there isn't a dedicated enforcer on every NHL team? Then why should some kid trying to make it to that league play that role here? Wouldn't that be counterproductive?
