Tailing the Komets

Warner added to roster

The Komets also announced today that defenseman Brandon Warner has been added to the preseason roster and will be in the fold when the Komets training camps begins Oct. 10 at the Coliseum.  The Fort Wayne native has skated the last four seasons with the Komets collecting three IHL Turner Cup Championships his first three seasons of pro play.  Warner, 28, posted five goals and 17 points in 43 games last season and has totaled 22 goals, 73 points and 174 penalty minutes during his 191 game career in Fort Wayne.

::sigh::

How can you be against all the veterans but you choose to defend this one, Snuff? Is Warner one of the young guys you are always wanting that you see a huge upside potential in? Do you get paid if he stays on the roster too?

Does anyone know when they start cutting people?

This is sad....lets bring in a guy who wasnt good enough to put on your playoff roster or protect in the offseason...

Couldnt this D-man get a job anywhere else? A couple years ago he was good enough to play in the AHL according to some and now he has to tuck tail and accept a traiing camp invite???

Why waste the spot....

RK....
If you will read my posts you will note I have said MANY times I am not interested in seeing him back and if they do bring him back as anything other than an extra guy who might get in 20-25 games then it means the roster isn't very strong.

I do take issue with all of the hate directed his way. Far worse have come through this city and didn't catch the jabs which seem almost personal in nature sometimes. But his every shift seens to get grinded down by the fan base for every potential mistake he makes. As I have said numerous times, he isn't as bad as his haters say and isn't as good as his backers say.

Wake up Komets nation. If Brandon Warner makes this roster and is on the ice during a crucial game deciding situation it will mean one of 3 things

#1 the team is not very good
#2 He has improved his game and earned that spot
#3 Injuries mean there is nobody else to play but him

Worse players have come thru Ft Wayne true; but none have been allowed to stick around and play as long as Warner has... The longer you stick around and play poorly, the more mistakes there are to scrutinize....

JR1 I guess I just don't seem his as "bad" I see him as a mediocre AA hockey player. What does give him value is that he can play both D and a wing. In a salary cap league like this having a guy that can do either does have its advantages.

Cescon makes just as many bad passes as Warner does but doesn't catch grief because people say he is "tough"

RK... before I stumble over at #4. please tell me what you think that has to do with anything? Last I checked the Komets ownership had plenty of money and didn't need handouts from a local dentist who while I am sure does quite well for himself but the Franke family probably writes off more in donations each year than Dr Warner makes.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. here we go. whatever, you can not tell me there isnt anyone out there that can do at least 0.5 % better than BW? And snuff, arent you the one who critizes chaulker more than BW? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

Mightbite has been "promising" a scorer and a tough guy. Warner makes 29 in camp, leaving only one open spot. The math doesn't work out right.

I thought the kids were back school?

Bottom line folks, he is here.
You can root for him to do well or you can root for him to fail.

For the good of this team I hope he comes to camp with a chip on his shoulder and shuts everyone including myself for calling him a fill in player up with his play.

The problem is with some of his critics he could score a hit trick, be a +3, the Komets win 7-1 and if a perceived mistake leads to the one goal against the K's that is what will be talked about.

JR1
Tue, 09/13/2011 - 9:52am

Tell me, what D-man that the K's have signed so far couldnt play Wing in a pinch???

Warner is a mediocre to poor D-man and a mediocre Wing... That would be great for the SPHL; but isnt gonna cut it in the CHL... So, IMO, the excuses that his defenders keep saying makes him so valubale actually have no merit...

What D-man or forward does he beat out to land a spot?

JR1
Tue, 09/13/2011 - 9:55am

Snuff, RK makes a good point...why are you so willing to give Warner a pass and yet bash a guy like Chaulk every chance you get?

Even though we knew for the last few days that this announcement was coming, it still simply baffles me.

Snuff, God luv ya, I can appreciate someone who states their mind and will defend your right to express whatever opinion you have.

I want to respond to two or three of your thoughts, however.

You responded giving three reasons why Brandon Warner might be on the ice during a "crucial game deciding situation". Numbers one and three are in no way a good thing to experience nor a ringing endorsement for him. (That is two out of the three possibilities you listed- 66%, Yikes).

Next you give an opinion (good for you), that you don't "see" him as"bad" but a "mediocre AA hockey player". Yikes again. Why would we want a mediocre AA hockey player? The you kind of answer that question with, "what does give him value is that he can play both D and a wing. In a salary cap league like this having a guy like this that can do either does have its advantages".

The player you describe is already signed. His name is Jamie Milam.

Something more to this is out there somewhere.

Look I don;t care who they sign, but when your spots are limited, this makes no hockey sense at all.

I, like some others are wondering where does the scorer and tough guy mightbite has reported earlier fit in. Warner makes 29. Sounds to me like the goaltending has been decided also.

P.S. I guess in a marketing sense I would question the reason why would you announce the sale of regular season tickets with Warner's announcement. I think I would have announced an impact player to tag along the ticket announcement to draw some excitement.

I must just be dafffy.

What is "hit trick"? Can't you get in trouble for doing that??

Mr Snufflupugus
Tue, 09/13/2011 - 10:29am

JR1 I can't answer your question because I 100% disagree with your assertion. This does not go just against you but I can't believe how many times I type things and people read them and upon coming to their own conclusions about what I have written find a way to turn it into something it isn't.

I have not given Warner a pass and I have not bashed Chaulk every chance I get (believe me!)

But in reality it does come down to expectations.
Do you judge Curtis Painter to the same standards as Peyton Manning? You can't compare a bottom rung guy to the face of the franchise and ask that the two be judged the same way.

Alan if this team is good enough to make the team then the Komets must have room for more than one mediocre player.

Like I said folks he is here now. I would have preferred otherwise (and yet I still get accused of giving him a pass?) so you can decide to root for him to do well or to fail.

Debate the rest amongst yourselves.

David Franke says he has no idea what Mightbite is talking about with two more players. Nothing is in the pipeline.

``The toughness is here. The scoring is here. That doesn't mean if down the line we get the opportunity we won't add more to it. On both of those accounts the guy is wrong.''

Burgee
Tue, 09/13/2011 - 11:39am

I have no problem with this. IMHO he's earned the chance to make the team.

If we had unlimited camp roster spots I guess I wouldn't mind this signing. After all, he still does have to make the team. But filling one of the two spots we have left with Warner frustrates me. I believe that there's at least two guys better than him still looking for a job. I lost all respect for him when he gave such a classless exit interview. I'm not going to throw a fit yet. But if he makes the team, I'm gonna go play in traffic.

He will have to play out of his mind in training camp to make this roster.

Our defense is set.

Frankie, Cescon
Milam, Molle
Mango, Molle

Maybe BWs is our topline scoring Forward?

Is this the guy Mighty?

I see he had 81 PIMS last season in 40 games....this is our tough guy too???

Dave Franke is addressing Mightbite directly now?

Lead Balloon. Everyone knew how this was going to go over. I'm not upset. If he makes the opening night roster, I'll be upset. Somebody has to make the low scoring forwards look good in practice, after all.

The term "hate" is getting a lot of run in the sports world. (Thanks King James.) I'm sick of it. Nobody "hates" Warner. Do many of us think that there are 8 better D-men that should be on the roster? Yes. It's not personal. I'm sure Brandon is a good guy, I don't think he's CHL defenseman material. I don't think he's progressed much since his rookie season. The Franke's all but agreed by cutting him last year. I don't see the logic, but as many of you have pointed out, I don't have the cash to pony up to buy the team.
